Are there any games, movies, shows, etc. that, while you may not consider them good, you don't consider as bad as people make them out to be?

Right now, I'm thinking the 2003 Daredevil (the Director's Cut is a decent movie), the 2005 Fantastic Four (mediocre at worst, not as horrendous as people say it is), and the Star Wars prequels (enough with the whining already).

There's probably others, but I'd like to hear from you guys.

Alien 3. Not only do I think it's not that bad, I think it's actually pretty good. That's apart from some of the special effects, of course.

Speed Racer's live action movie, to the point I think it's the best movie the directors have ever made and is one of the best and most faithful adaptations I've seen to an animated series.

I would personally rephrase this as "It's not AWESOME, but it's pretty good." And I would say... Adam Sandler's Jack and Jill. I thought the movie was amusing. It made me genuinely laugh in places. A lot of people consider the film gutter trash, but a lot of people haven't even seen the film, either, at least from what I've seen online.

A few anime. Sword Art Online and Guilty Crown comes to mind in particular.

I actually like SAO, and Guilty Crown I just found to be mediocre, with an ending that the more I think about, the crueler it gets.

Also, the Dance in the Vampire Bund anime, but I think that was because I never read the manga. I've also only seen it once and barely remember it, but I remember liking it okay. On that note, though, I loved the Flowers of Evil anime.

I'd also put RWBY up there. To me it's just a fun little web series, and I don't think it's trying to be more than that.

To be honest, I think people just complain too much, overall. Alot of people can't just enjoy a movie like I can, so out come the complaints and nit-picks. Some things ARE bullshit, but not as much as most would say.

Arkham Origins isn't that bad if you don't take into account all the glitches and game-breaking bugs.

Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace.

I actually think that's the best one out of the prequel trilogy, mainly because Hayden isn't in it. Yes, the dialogue is still pretty hard to listen to, but the action is good, Hayden's whining isn't there, that lightsaber battle at the end is bonkers, and Hayden isn't there. I will happily watch this movie over the other two any day.
Did I mention that Hayden isn't there? I mentioned that, right?

And don't even get me started on Revenge of the Sith. That's my reverse of this thread. Everyone else praises that movie as the best out of the prequels, but I think it's the worst.

I always saw Metroid Other M that way. Easily it was the worst of the Metroid series, and there was a lot I didn't like and some wasted potential. But the "main" problem people had was something I didn't have a problem with. The problem that they "got Samus wrong." And being that prior to that she was a self-insert blank-slate, I didn't get that. I recognized that I had been wrong about Samus, but it seemed most people just had a hard time letting go of "their" version of Samus. The fact that she had insecurities and weaknesses (like a person generally does) killed their vision of the hyperbro "woohoo" guns blazing alien pirate-killer 80's action hero they seemed to picture.

Now, I never said that the way they finally characterized Samus was good. But call it bad writing, not mischaracterization. Oh and the infamous "Varia Suit" issue with Other M. "Some Man told her not to activate her Varia suit, even though she was going through a lava chamber and taking damage. And she didn't disobey... blasphemy." Yeah, how DARE they make Samus go through environmentally dangerous areas... like she did in Zero Mission, and Super Metroid, and Prime 3 Echoes... oh yeah. No, it wasn't written well in Other M. But the mechanic of going through environmentally dangerous areas before you get the item that lets you navigate the area safely WAS a staple of the series. And frankly, in Other M with it's regenerating health (an added feature I didn't like) it was easy and only a danger to the completely ham-fisted gamer.

*peeks out of hiding spot* I really like the Tim Story Fantastic Four movies. His version of Galactus is way cooler to me than the comic version. And no, my opinion is not influenced by the recent Fantastic Four movie bomb.*ducks back into safety*

The first Punisher movie probably fits that bill.
Wait... do you mean the Thomas Jane one, or the Dolph Lundgren one?

For me, I just finished watching the Captain America made for TV movies from '79, and they genuinely weren't as bad as I was expecting. To be fair, I wasn't expecting much, but you can't really miss with Christopher Lee as a villain.

And of course the eccentricity of the story, which basically declares that all Batman villains were first met on the same night a year into him being Batman, which is my main problem with the whole experience.

The Matrix: Reloaded and The Matrix: Revolutions - Were they as good or as groundbreaking as the first film? No, of course not. Were they even half as bad as people bitched? No, not even remotely.

Star Wars: Episode 1: The Phantom Menace - There are several reasons this film is the best of the prequel trilogy (and, as I'll attest, better in parts than Return of the Jedi was in some respects.), not the least of which is a complete absence of Hayden Christensen.

The Hobbit Trilogy - No, they weren't like Lord of the Rings. No, they weren't superb films by any stretch. But on the same token, they weren't nearly as bad as fans and critics said they were. They were still decent, light-hearted fantasy adventure.

Tron: Legacy - I'll be the first to tell you the faults of this film. And make no mistake, it really was a bad film. But I loved the hell out of it and I still say it wasn't as bad as many thought it was.

Bioshock Infinite - While I'm not a fan, I've never understood how anyone could genuinely claim this game was bad. It's just...a silly claim.

Had me until the last point. I still say Episode 2 is the worst. There are many reasons, but above all is that the film committed the worst atrocity a film like Star Wars could commit...

It was dull.

For what is supposed to be an action-oriented adventure series, Episode 2 had the gall to be boring. Episode 3, as bad as it was, at least kept a brisk pace.

Parts of the Joel Schumacher Batman movies. I recently watched Batman and Robin with the new RLM commentary track, and while that movie isn't really a movie as much as it is a number of stupid unrelated scenes that don't make much sense, I think that the camp and the obvious wirework could have worked. I don't mind if a movie is over the top with these things. It is obvious for everyone to see that these things aren't supposed to be realistic, so you can't call them flaws when they're intentional. The Bat-crew having ice skates in their shoes as a precaution against ice-themed supervillains, as well as being prepared for any number of ridiculous scenes, it's so stupid it's delicious, in a way. It is also exactly the kind of idiocy you would find in some old comic books.

Superman Returns. Although that is largely the fault of Man of Steel being a joyless, idiotic mess that makes Superman Returns (itself once regarded as an gritty re-imagining of the franchise) look like a breezy bit of fun. In the same vein, The first Wolverine movie is far more watchable than the second Wolverine movie. Whilst the latter is a more technically competent film, it has a lot of muddy, convoluted and po-faced story telling that makes it all the more boring.

The new Fantastic Four movie was bad, but it wasn't horrendous. It was a misfire, that's all.
