The basic Summary is that Dennis Derkin, CFO of Activision, has publicly announced that sales of Call of Duty Ghosts on the First Day did not meet Black Ops II Day 1 sales. They blame the Console Transition and Digital Distribution, as well as the close launch to Grand Theft Auto V, for causing this decline.

What are your thoughts? All I can say is that "I called It".

It's all my fault...I didn't buy my copy...

I'M SORRY ACTIVISION!!!! CAN YOU EVER FORGIVE ME!?!?!?!

...ahem. Funny enough, I agree with them about the console transition. Call of Duty has been on some shaky ground lately and it wasn't going to take much more weight to have it begin to crack. The new console launch splits their user base. I would never play another game of CoD if my buddies stopped playing it. If they were planning on getting the Xbox One and I wasn't, of course they're going to buy it on the One and therefore leaving me behind, losing them a sale. I imagine this same scenario has played in many a homes over this launch...

I'm curious to see if the numbers spike back up with the Xbox One/PS4 launch...

I agree that sales will pick up a bit more down the line (especially since pre-ordering consoles now means you'll get them in May) but I have doubts on putting the blame specifically on the next gen consoles. Call of Duty has shown declining sales with each installment since MW3 had failed to sell as much as Black Ops did by May 2012, and again with Black Ops II to MW3. The only thing that could convince me that it was the responsibility of the next gen consoles would be the advertising.

Ghosts had unbearably large amounts of advertising, notably when Treyarch posted 5 messages to 'buy Ghosts' on Black Ops II for a camo from May onwards and Eminem put product placement for Ghosts in his "Survival" video. In the UK at least every TV single advert for Ghosts, Battlefield 4 and Assassin's Creed IV have all shown said games to be for the Xbox One. Maybe that could be a contributing factor, the UK is a major contributor to Call of Duty's sales and it is also completely Xbox dominated (because of said games I often see about 2-5 Xbox One related adverts per break).

A huge part of that will be down to console transition which is understandable really as many people (myself included) don't want to fork out for a now 'lesser' version when we can get a new shiny one in a month.

...Didn't GTAV release a month ago? A better excuse would have been saying potential buyers are probably saving up for Mario 3D World I'd think. Anyway, since Ghost didn't outsell CoD-Blops2, how many did it end up selling? Can't wait to see how or if the sales figures jump once the XBone80 and, PS4 launch.

If I was going to get it this close to next gen, I'd wait the extra month or two. It's what I'm doing with FF14.

LOLSTORMS.

I mean... do you really belive that COD people would go after freaking Mario 3D World (Or viceversa, it goes both ways) or you were just begin sarcastic?---

(Its weird because I would totally get both COD and Mario since I love both of them so much... but I dont think most people would do that).

I think Ghosts sold very poorly (at least for COD). I have a bunch of shooter friends on my PSN list and I've only seen 2 on Ghosts, I actually have more on Blops2. Whereas almost every damn person got GTA5 when it launched.

If you buy the PS3 version of FF14, you get the PS4 version as well (it might be for digital sales as my friend bought it digitally and he said it included the PS4 version). I have no idea for the Xbox side.

Well they're at least partially correct on the console transitional point. I'm undecided on which/if/when I'll be getting a next gen console, but I consider it enough that unless I absolutely must have a game as soon as possible, I'm reluctant to pick it up on my current console when I know it'll be available on the next.

The terrible PC port didnt help Im sure. It boggles my mind how small development studios like Zombie can make blacklight retribution work flawlessly yet a multimillion dollar company/publishing house like Activision/infinity ward cant get their game above 60 fps on state of the art technology. I prefer 100-120+ fps in FPS titles but I can work with 60. What I cant accept is when the game falls down to 30 or even less because its like the games moving full pace while you're simultaneously forced to play in slow mode. The gunplay is the same as ever, which is good because cod gunplay was always good, but the framerate issues make it nigh unplayable to me

Now Im not usually a graphics whore either, I mean Xcom Enemy unknown (1993) is my favorite game of all time and its not pretty by any stretch of the imagination. However CoD looks awful to me. Its time to update their assets because the game looks quite dated to me.

Perhaps its better on PS3/Xbox but from where I stand they didnt even bother to do a bad port to my chosen platform yet they still want to charge full price for it, not that Im surprised. Infinity ward has a pretty bad track record for PC releases. Long story short, its completely unacceptable

SE already said they will never do an MMO again on a M$ system after all the problems they had with FF11. M$ requires dedicated Xbox-only servers for all online games, the only reason they got to port it over was because it required you to already login thru the PlayOnline system, which was basically a dedicated server system in itself.

I also don't own a PS3, I'm waiting to see how PS4 does over the holidays before I upgrade to next Gen.

I just want to say that theres two big things to consider here. One, a new generation of consoles is launching in less than a month, a lot of people dont want to make to buy the current Gen version when they could just wait for the next gen version.
And two, GTAV came out not too long ago. A lot of people (like myself) game on a limited budget, and are restricted to getting a brand new game maybe 3 or 4 times a year. Actually looking back on it I dont think Ive bought a new release title since Borderlands 2 came out.
Im willing to bet sales are falling anyhow, but those are two important things to think about before declaring that CoD is dying

Ghosts is selling less than expected?

Does...does that mean that people are tired of iterative bullshit?

Is this...happiness, that I am feeling right now?

While it would be nice if that were true, it's probably just because they're waiting to get it on the new consoles.

Yeah, I'm going with people are waiting for the Next Gen consoles. I read that there are something like 500,000 preorders for CoD: Ghosts on the next Gen systems in the US, which makes sense considering that there were about 1.3 million preorders for the next Gen systems.

True, but it doesn't break any sales records, so a truly brilliant game(GTA V) still owns the title of The Best-selling game of all time.

CAPTCHA: "that's enough"

Yeah, it is, I will take that as a victory.

Or because GTA came out. Or because my dog ate my homework.

I just find it rather funny that they came out saying "Our game is going to beat GTA V! FUCK YEAH! C-O-D! C-O-D! C-O-MOTHERFUCKIN'-DEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!" Then their game comes out and fails to surpass the sales of the previous installment. "Yeah, we blame GTA V for our lack of sales..."
