Uh...wut?

How?

Not so much why, but I just need to see how the hell they've crowbared, or not as the case may be, multiplayer into one of the most single-player games I've ever played.

As long as the SP is not screwed up, i say that more content is always good (and it might be fun as hell). I have faith in Bioware.

i like it. it makes sure we can play even more mass effect. even after playing the singleplayer like a zillion times.

What are your thoughts on this?

Think it will affect the campaign in a negative way?
I don't think it will have any negative effects. Then again, I will likely never use the multiplayer option, so it's so much gray noise to me.

Not entirely serious, maybe.

After reading some of the replies in this thread, I'm curious...

How does including multiplayer automatically mean the shittification of a game?

I think this is a bone headed move. I am extremely concerned that they will have taken focus off of the actual IMPORTANT part, ie the single player campaign, and put attention on this. To do this on the end all-be all finale just isnt a good idea, and this game doesnt need FRAKKING MULTIPLAYER!

*EDIT* Let me also add that I am hope they do it like Dead Space 2, whereas it didnt have any achievements attached to it. That way I am not going to be forced to do this, to have a perfect score.

Personally I think everyone should calm down until we actually know whether this is a game-splitting disaster or an added bonus to one of the best RPGs ever.

Ah, so this is the US OXM? Temporary confusion now cleared up.

Anyway, colour me uninterested right now at the thought of ME3 multiplayer. At most, I'll probably view this in the same way I view AC : Brotherhoods multiplayer. Something I might try after I've finished the singleplayer campaign, but not enough to hold my interest.

After all, what brought me back to Brotherhood later on was the lure of finding all those flags/feathers, not the multiplayer. Likewise, if anything draws me back to ME3 after completion it will likely be the completion of any sidequests missed and the like.

I agree, I'm holding my breath to see just exactly what kind of Multiplayer we're talking about. I hope it's just coop stuff.

I still don't understand why people treat this manner as the game automatically became extremely shitty. Seriously, I don't get what these people are going on about.

waste of development time and money. Make the SP longer or move the staff to TOR instead.

People play call of duty and battlefield 3 for multiplayer. People play Mass effect for single player. Any time making a multiplayer aspect should have been put into furthering/polishing the single player. This feels like metriod prime 2 all over again. Great single player game yet wasted development time on a multiplayer that nobody asked for. The kinect functionality is also unneeded and a waste of development time.
pretty much what i was going to say.

Oh look at that, once again the bioware devs where full of shit. I'm probably not going to play it and I think its a waste of money tho I don't necessarily think its going to game destroying.

It could work especially if they keep mass effect as a predominantly cover based shooter game (i.e 2 rather than 1) but odds are I wont be playing MP anyway so I dont care I am just going to wait and see what the single player game looks like when it comes out to see if it is worth my money or not because as it stands at the moment I know almost nothing about the game except what I have heard from hearsay and rumours.

Call me highly optimistic. If the Multiplayer is something like deathmatch, capture the flag, or anything like that, then I will be somewhat sad (but that's because I'm not really into those type of modes). If its similar to Horde mode, then that's just awesome. Co-op? As long as its a separate mode (as I don't really see it working out too well in Single Player) detailing some events that happen during the story that we might not get to see (maybe even some more appearances of characters that may only be temporary squad mates in the single player portion)then that's just as good. You don't even have to play as your Shepard for any of this. Maybe just random Batarian Soldier, or some Turian biotic, etc. This way they can totally explain the balance issues that will occur with the classes if they decide to implement that type of feature.

Honestly, it all depends on how Bioware handles it. The multiplayer/co-op makes sense given the setting of ME3, but if it ends up actually feeling like I'm playing online as opposed to something that I can see happening in the universe/story, then I'll probably be a bit put off.

Either way, I'm going to get this game. I'll just need to wait a bit more on how these modes work and actually play. Not too worried. At the very least I'll try the multiplayer out.
i agree i think that as a seperate plot would be great like in the dead space 2 dlc you played as someone else in the same universe. i think like a co-op mode of that

Eh, if I wanted multiplayer in my RPGs I would play an MMO, this isn't Gears of War.

Well, since the overwhelming string of posts seems to be leveled firmly in the 'It's the worst thing since ET the Game' camp, I'll point out the possible way of doing it that would be really cool, cutting and pasting my own comments from the last time this came up and everyone started whining in the thread about the pre release options;

Funky thought, what if 'multiplayer' means the ability to have two other players playing the rest of your squad through a mission? Not just the fighting, but also the cutscene/dialogue wheel segments? The host playing as Shepard while the other two play as the squad members of their choice, getting to chose the RP options for Garrus or Wrex during a cut scene would be pretty cool, getting to integrate the role-playing of all three players into one unique cut scene.

Or...maybe...every player has two characters, one is their Shepard, the other is their 'multiplayer character' You create them to fill a niche in someone's lineup if they want to do an online segment with other players. You'd get the opportunity to create a character of any species, Krogan, Turian, Quarian, etc, flesh them out just as completely as Shepard. Maybe a background, key points and personality segment for each that dictates their speech options during the cutscenes. Your multi-player characters would develop just like your Shepard, but there would be a different skill tree and bonuses for playing them that you couldn't access as Shepard. While on the inverse, you'd receive bonus XP for hosting other players, and you'd have aspects of your skill tree that would only be accessible to Shepard. It would give you an incentive for playing as a host for a multiplayer segment so you can level up faster and gain bonuses for your play throughs with bots, while you'd gain a different roleplay and combat experience playing as a squad member.

You could throw in a command role for Shepard and XP bonuses for the team members for fighting as a unit and completing objectives that your lead Shepard set. Plus you'd get the chance to play as a Krogan Warrior, or a Quarian Marine, or any of the numerous Citadel Races that we've seen as supporting characters at best and the Fanboys are desperate to see more of.

Conceivably you could play through the entire game as a 'backup squad member' building XP with your character and seeing the adventure in a different light, being a part of a different 'Shepard experiance' for the finale of the game. Perhaps there would be an option for players to form ongoing parties so that they could play the entire story of ME3 with the same characters in a trio.

Just a crazy thought about how Mass Effect Multiplayer could work really well and be very interesting.
I really like your ideas. Maybe that's what the new guy is for? He looks as generic as default Shep, so maybe he's customisable...
