Yeah? So what? If Christians don't want people assaulting them, they should shut up about their religion and stop telling the rest of us that we're "going to hell" or something similar. Even better, they should stop trying to gain control over the government and ram their stupid ideas down our collective throats. (I also advocate this for any other group with an agenda that violates individual rights.)

Follow the Eleventh Commandment: Keep Thy Religion To Thyself. Then, people won't feel the need to hit back.

I'm aware that *some* groups actually do have a history of being persecuted by just about everybody for no good reason (Jews), but Christians are not one of these groups. They are "persecuted" by non-Christians because they are a massively aggressive group of lunatics scrambling for power and not afraid to murder, maim, and destroy. Jews and Jehovah's Witnesses are anti-abortion but do you see THEM shooting at doctors and blowing up clinics?

If you self-identify with a group whose members act like mindless thugs, civilized people are going to heap scorn upon you--especially if you can't tell who this scorn is aimed at and take it personally, which means that you, on some very basic level, DO identify with the mindless thugs and consider your self a member of their group.

How do you like it when people mock you? It's annoying isn't it?

Yeah it's annoying, but I don't let it get to me/threaten violent retribution or eternal damnation.

Maybe one day people will learn to put religion and race in the back of their minds and not use it to judge.

True. Although a true sniping contest would be much more interesting than their usual media circus, and also let me act like the sniper in Saving Private Ryan more!

I think the reason those people act so outrageously is that they're afraid that they're on the wrong side, and need to convince themselves moreso than others. And, unfortunately for us, the only way they know how do reinforce their thoughts is to rant out loud.

I know why christians are singled out, and nobody cares. Its cause there are alot of people who call themselves christians and then act just like an athiest (they are hypocrites). Theres another group who believes so fervently that they forgo all rational thought and run around judging anyone (which ironicly enough is a sin) who isnt christian ranting about how they're evil and telling them they need to be saved (they are ignorant dicks).
If you want people to respect you then do what the bible says! The bible doesnt say go to church, and ignore everything in this book. The bible doesnt say harass people till they join you. It says to treat everyone like you want to be treated (2nd most important rule). Just be nice to everyone, and go out of your way to do so and DONT tell them what they are doing is evil. Thats a good way to make enemies if anything. People will notice and while they may make fun of other christians for the rest of your life, its nessessary to start somewhere.

After reading that it sounds really preachy but i cant think of a better way of putting it.

Edit:I also believe that anyone is free to be mocked for any reason so long as its not out of malice and is genuinly funny.

I don't have any problem with harmless mocking. The world would be much better if everyone could playfully mock each other. Im just saying that people shouldn't have a serious problem against something good.

Not everyone thinks Christianity is good, most citing The Crusades and "missionary work" (noted for destroying unique cultures and religions).

If I had a nickel every time someone brought that up, I wouldn't need to refute it. This is a habit shared by whoever happens to be in power at the time, it isn't exclusive to Christianity. The Egyptians, the Romans, the Greeks, the Aztecs, all of these cultures had a similar goal at one point or another: to be the only one left. Point is that we realize that it was a mistake, and it will never happen again.

But to be on-topic: Of course you can make silly jokes, no one will care except the usual morons that get in a flap about anything and everything. That DOES NOT give you the right however to ruthlessly berate us.

In short: be mindful of the atmosphere, as always. And if you do joke about ANYONE'S religion, make sure that it isn't with bad intent, or you'll find some very unfriendly stares thrown your way.
