I tend to make jokes on pretty much everything, including Jews, Christians, Polish people, Turks, other Germans (like Frisians or Saxons), Austrians, Doctors, Blondes, French, the Pope, the government of the USA or Russia etc.
As long as there's no hate (i.e. racism, sexism) involved, I don't see the problem.

Holocaust? More like Lolocaust!

And ok yeh people mock Christians but thats only because they are trying to help them free themselves from the horrific social controls system to which they are indoctrinated.

In my opinion =]

Yes. You shall not take away my right to mock you! I shall mock whatever I want, thank you very much.
I dislike many things, including religion, and I will continue to laugh and make jokes as I see fit.
Don't like that answer? Tough.

I have read through most of the posts and this thread and I have decided the following:

Anything or anyone is open to be criticized, and if the critique comes in the form of mockery, so be it.

If someone walks into a restaurant and hates the food, they can say so. Maybe they want to have a light air about it... maybe they want to say "That food was so fatty I can feel my arteries clogging as I speak." They have mocked the food and no one cares, because it isn't malicious.

When Rod Blagojevich was indicted I'm sure there was someone thinking, "Boy, I hope he planned on using the money for selling that Senate seat to get a hair cut." Blagojevich has been mocked, but no one is getting riled up because it was never meant to cause true harm.

As I said, everything is opening to criticism and religion isn't and shouldn't be an exception. If people poke fun at religion, it should be shrugged off and not thought of a second time.

I would also like to point out that there is a difference between mockery that is seen on say the Daily Show and the Colbert Report and hateful, malicious slander. The second, is not something that should be tolerated.

I'm a christian and I can usually take a joke about christianity, unless it's hateful, mocking, or downright insulting. I don't really think it's okay to mock or insult religions, race or anything like that, but jokes, I think, are different if they're the right kind and in somewhat good taste and not necessarily trying to be hurtful or offensive, and it's completely possible to disagree with someone on the basis of religion without mocking them or screaming in their face and being a blatant turd. I do notice, however, that it's more acceptable in general to insult or mock christianity than other faiths, but maybe it's just me. If I read a statement attempting to denounce religion in general, it's more usually aimed toward judeo-christian based faiths than say buddhism, or scientology. Most of the publicity that churches or religious groups are usually negative, and I think that might lead people to criticize or judge a religion on the whole instead of that one group, or person. Like those guys at the Westboro Baptist Church. They protest at soldiers' funerals, downright HATE gay people, and probably other bad stuff that I can't think of right now. They use bits and pieces of the bible to confirm they're actions, but contradict the bible on the whole when preaching hate and intolerance, but if someone sees those people on television or hears about them on the radio they might think, "Oh, those crazy christians", instead of, "Oh those crazy group of specific people that go to that specific church that aren't necessarily associated with everyone claiming to be of that particular faith". And the Crusades, which were supposedly done in the name of God, but that was just the church manipulating the gullibility of the nation in order to sate their hunger for power. Or the king, I don't really remember, it was something like that though. But the faith was used to justify it, and people don't look very kindly on that and so they blame it on the religion and the people associated with it instead of the instigators. The issue with the molestation and the Catholic church is probably something too. You see that, you think "Those sicko-bastards, I'm never going to church ever". I'm not excusing any of those actions, and I can see why people think it's more acceptable to criticize christianity than other religions when seeing crap like that. It's only been a few misguided people doing misguided things, but so much attention is being given to them, so all's you hear about is the crap people do instead of the good people do. Of course, you could just think it's stupid, I don't know. I'm just stating my opinion, and I'm not talking to anyone in particular.
Amen.

I can't believe this hasn't been posted yet. Oh wells.

I'm Atheist. No theory makes sense, but it doesn't have to. People are just looking for someone to blame when their life goes to shit, or someone to thank when they win they have a stroke of luck.

It makes me laugh though, I've seen dozens of people looking to God because their son/daughter is on drugs/shoplifting/having sex, and countless other ridiculous ideals. They continue to hope that God will save their child despite the story of Adam & Eve. It's like they don't even read their own doctrine.

I agree that does look really stupid... too bad for you that picture isn't accurate. A zombie is a reanimated corpse that walks around on the earth. Jesus went back to Heaven after he died. But not before He appeared to His disciples and proved that He rose again. And that talking snake is Satan who took that form in order to decieve Eve.
For a history note, how much did America prosper when we followed God when George Washington was president? We were the greatest country in the world. What happened when we just recently took God out of our schools and our country has turned away from Him? The economy is in a dump and theres always something negative going on on the news. Theres always something bad going on. Notice a difference? There is no way that you can say that that is just luck or chance, since the same thing happened with Israel a couple thousand years ago. I don?t understand why people need to just hate Christians for what they believe in but they tolerate almost every other religion.

Your view of history is quite distorted.

America didn't suddenly become "the greatest country in the world" the moment it gained its independence. Its economic and military power were still dwarfed by those of the European powers. It took many long years for the United States to develop into a world power. (And, if we're going to talk about moral "greatness", let's not forget how long the vile institution of slavery lingered in this country.) The nation didn't achieve truly global reach until well into the 19th century.

This modern age you decry as godless has brought unparalleled wealth to the US. Through all the booms and busts of a capitalist economy, America's wealth and power have remained monumental, almost embarrassing.

And, c'mon, you start downright proselytizing about how America has grown godless and decadent and calamity will befall us, and then you wonder what it is about your particular beliefs that rubs some people the wrong way?
