Okay, I know this thread has been done plenty of times before. But everyone has different tastes, so I feel I'm perfectly justified in doing this again, specifically for my own tastes. That's right, it's another Anime Suggestion Thread!

Anime that I have seen are:

- Elfen Lied
- Death Note
- Hellsing
- Hellsing Ultimate (until the subbed episodes)
- The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
- Higurashi When They Cry
- Umineko When They Cry
- Yu-Gi-Oh (4Kids version)
- Pokemon

I'm particularly into things that will give me a massive mindfuck, something that will probably freak me out and make me wonder what the hell I've just watched. Of the above list, Umineko is probably my favourite, followed closely by Death Note, if that helps. So, can the good people of The Escapist suggest some decent anime for me to start watching that will fit my taste for weirdness and mental stimulation?

Darker Than Black might be up your alley.

Yeah. That's the trailer for the dub. I hate subs and I'm not afraid to admit it. I'll watch 'em. But I prefer them dubbed, regardless of quality.

Beserk.
Ninja Schrolls. (or is that one a hentai? o_o)
The Japanese version of Yu-Gi-Oh can be somewhat dark. Seriously, why did they choose to dub that certain anime?! It's quite messed up at times.

I don't watch much anime any more, I'm sure others have much better suggestions.

Code Geass is absent from your list.

Rectify this immediately.

And if you want a mindfuck, Evangelion.

I've definitely considered them, they're on my 'to watch' list already, but thanks for the suggestion :D. Also on said 'to watch' list is Serial Experiments Lain. I've heard good things about that one, can anyone confirm them for me?

Mindfuckery you say?

Then here's the list I'd suggest:

Serial Experiment Lain
Boogiepop Phantom
Key the Metal Idol
Revolutionary Girl Utena (movie = spoiler so watch last)

There you go.

Edit: Oh right, Evangelion. I feel foolish for forgetting that one. I recommend the new movies (1.11 and 2.0) to get you started, since they're the insanely awesome update to the series (basically he is remaking the series in a more awesome form). Actually, you can watch 1.11 and jump right back into the series since they don't differ much by that point (other than the scale of awesome). 2.0 blows the original series cannon to tiny pieces, but it isn't out in the US yet.

Yes Lain is good. If you want I can give you a link to a very good anime review site that can help you find good series to watch like *insert finger snap noise here* that.

That would be great, thanks :). I could do with a decent list to keep me going for a good while...

-Outlaw Star
-Samurai Champloo(it's both serious and fucking hilarious at the same time)
-Trigun
-Gundam 8th MS Team(kinda cheesy and pretty short but it's not bad)
Edit:My gf has also been watching some anime called Blood+ on Netflix. I haven't seen it so I'm not sure what it's like but she claims it's crazy.

Trigun, Outlaw Star, and Kenshin are all GOOD... but mindfucks? Not at all. All three are very straight forward. Excellent, but straight forward.

Berzerk and Ninja Scroll are also not mind-fucky. Berzerk is okay, but not what I'd call a classic. Ninja Scroll.. never cared for it, but then I'm not much for shows about testosterone. But, even if you love that sort of thing, neither one is a mindfuck.

I recommend you go to and make an account http://myanimelist.net

Here is everything I have seen and what I have rated it so use that - http://myanimelist.net/animelist/Poketomx

If anyone else is a member feel free to add/message me here or there.

I would suggest Welcome to the NHK that anime has no flaws whatsoever in my opinon.

Also even though I have not seen it I know Code Geass is very similar to Death Note.

FLCL will make you not have a clue what you just watched & School Days has a pretty big shock factor.

Code Geass. I'd say that it's a bit like a more military-esq death note. I'm not sure that it's as good, but it's definately pretty awesome.

Darker than black.

Trigun.
