The easiest way to tell whether or not the world is about to end is to go outside at noon, look up, and ask the following question:

"Where is the sun?"

There are several possible answers:

A). Where it always is.
B). I don't know. I can't see it.
C). Closer/further away than it was yesterday.

And from that answer, you can determine whether or not the end times are upon us:

A). Nope.
B). I said noon, not midnight.
C). Yep.

People have been saying that we're living in the end times for 2000 years now. I'm pretty sure that there's a passage in the bible that says we won't know when it's going to happen, and while there are signs listed in Daniel and in Revelations, they're so vague and heavily couched in symbolism that they can be applied to pretty much any major crisis. That hasn't stopped people from claiming we're in the end times, or unscrupulous con men from trying to profit off of people's fears of the tribulation -- I once tuned into the Christian channel while channel surfing and came across some guy selling oil drums filled with soup stock, so that people will be better able to live through the end times -- which has all kinds of theological problems, the guy was on a "Christian" channel preying on people's ignorance of their own religion.

Long story short: Theologically speaking, we won't know when the end times are actually coming. That hasn't stopped people from looking at prophecies of the end times, seeing vague parallels to things that are currently happening, and assuming we are there now.
You basically summed up what anyone on this topic would say, perfect

I hate to be really cheesy but "It's the end of the world as we know it, I feel fine!" Okay so what this is about is sometimes I talk to my friend's grandmother she always says "you should get with a church now, it's the end times" or something along those lines. Just so you know, my friend's is extremely religious and even has parts of the bible highlighted (specifically the parts where it says having sex with a person of the same sex is a sin) Now I'm sure this has lots of discussion value but I'm terrible at making topics, so what I ask you fine folks is, are there really any signs that this is the "end times"?
Its worth noting that a lot of stuff is mentioned about the apocolypse in the Bible. But in each of the Gospels, Jesus says that lots of people will claim that the end of the world is Nye (and even point to current events to support this claim) but none of these will be true.

The big give away that the end times are here, will be when Jesus decends to earth from Heaven. At time of writing, I am not aware of this having happened, therefore, I feel obliged to advise that the end of the world is not yet at hand.

You are, for the moment, reletively safe.

Oh, and all the stuff about homosexuality is another matter entierly. The only verse in the Bible relating to the matter that can't be written off using hermanutics is in Romans and even thats debatable.

Very good point there -- if Jesus descends from heaven during my lifetime, it will be a pretty big sign that I'm living in the end times. While I think the thread here is about people trying to predict the tribulation, which will happen before that, you just listed the only sign that not only matters but would be unequivocal when it happens. Besides, the traditional narrative of the end times, as outlined in the Left Behind series of books, isn't actually what's in the bible. It was the product of some crackpot in the 19th century who managed to get his odd reading of the bible accepted fairly widely.

I remember how all possible grandmas were "1999 is end of the world"... then it changed to "2000 is end of the world"... then they shut hell up.

Nope.
It's impossible to know exactly how or when things will play out. Things will probably play out pretty fast when they happen, but so far there hasn't been anything to so indicate - and people have been predicting the arrival of the End Times for almost two thousand years. It's not worth gambling on.

I don't think so. The tensions and problems of the world are grand, yes but they're all caused by actual people in the world, nothing biblical or divine. So it seems like a moot point to me. All the problems we have today, we caused in some chain of events or form. x.x
yeah, she also thinks that all these natural disasters are the cause of Satan
I belive most Christians describe people with this view as the "Batshit Bonkers Brigade"
Surfice to say, his oppinion is not common Christian belife.

Palin for president in 2012 is enough of a sign for me.

Wait, there's sections in the bible that directly address homosexuality? I thought they just disapproved of entering the backdoor.
The Old Testament or the New?

I wish we had a time machine to go back and ask. I have a feeling he'd be saying something like "Ummm ... thats just how big the rock I had was, I ran out of space"

Exactly. My calenar ends every YEAR, and all that happens is I need to get a new one.

Just think about it. The Mayan calendar is (presented on) a big round rock with limited space on it. They had to let it end at some point.

About the "signs":
Read the Revelations (seriously, it's not a bad story), make note of the signs mentioned, and try to find them. Those for which you might find a matching world event right now will surely have counterparts in earlier periods.

I don't really think this is the "end times" at all. I used to, but I realized theres an "end date" every so often for one reason or another. Anyone remember Y2K? If not 2012, then 2016 I'm guessing.

there is no Mayan doomsday and the end of times is awhile away. What had happened was that they ran out of room in the calendar. Gullible Americans...

End days? Please...

The answer is no.

But it is time for some humor sandwiches alright.

If the world is in fact coming to an end, I don't really have much to worry about unless I have some sort of influence on whether or not it happens.

I hope that there's some huge war or something to usher in the end of the world. I want to go down fighting some stuff.

...Actually, scratch that. If the world has the urge to come to an end, as least let me marry my gf first and have a few more happy years with her.

...Then let the zombie outbreak happen. XD

The only reason people are saying its the end of the world is because most people have a serious ego problem, even if it may not seem like it. SO, most people assume that the end of the world will come during their lifetime, when in reality it most likely won't end for thousands of years, at least (unless nuclear warfare). So when someone is saying, "The end is near!" They are really just shining their ego.

There is no end of days. The world will end if we exhaust the resources on Earth and haven't figured out how to sustain life elsewhere, and that'll take quite a while to happen if it happens at all.
