YOU try giving somebody a good meal with tools that can be safely taken up that high in the air, AND doing it cheaply. It won't happen.

What is the deal with it? All the meals I've had were pretty good, and I've not traveled outside coach. What's the problem?

Only from people mocking Seinfeld. Personally I could never stand the guy.
Basically I made this thread to hear all the witty answers people could come up with.

They dont serve any outside of first class anymore is the deal. Now We all have to sit through 13 hour flights with nothing but peanuts because of dicks like Seinfeld.

There's a great quote about this but I couldn't find it. Something about they have to cook food for 200 people in the air with something that barely counts as a kitchen. We should be happy it's edible.

When even McDonald's won't take a shipment of meat, they take it to this repurposing facility where they convert all of the meat into this concoction which they say is chicken, but it never tastes like it, and whatever you do, don't ask for the fish...

The dumber and cheesier, the better.

The entire air-line industry is focused around one goal: the quick transport of the largest possible number of individuals at one time, and THIS is focused around doing it as cheaply as they can.

When preparing meals for a flight, they focus on purchasing small, filling portions of food that will spoil slowly, if at all. Thus, you get food such as iceberg lettuce, easily preserved vegetables, cold-cut sandwiches on a wheat baguette, and a minimal amount of "exotic" drink options to off-set the taste of the other foods.

Thusly, airline food.
