. . . Welcome to the N.H.K anyone? It's seriously the best anime I've ever seen.

OP: I just tend to stay away from the long runners. (100+ episodes etc.)

Wow... a discussion about good anime and Ghost In The Shell isn't brought up aside from a couple of people's lists?

Well one anime that no one brought up, that I think is good, Spice and Wolf seasons 1 and 2. Only 12 episodes each.

It's a little different from most anime.

To the OP: you've expressed hate for teenagers in anime, yet you like neon genesis evangelion?

I don't actually know much about that show, but my friend who is a big fan of it told me that "it's about emotionally unstable teenagers in giant robots."

The anime that have restored my faith in the medium are:

Naoki Urasawa's Monster- It definately pulls you in like a soap opera (but with a plot that is not inane). It is a medical drama/thriller set in Germany with no super powers or bunch of girls chasing after some loner. Basically, it is about a doctor who saves a kid who ends up growing up to be a serial killer and he is trying to hunt the killer because he feels guilty. Also, the police suspect him of the killings. It's very tense and goes in many different twists.

Paranoia Agent - beautifully crafted and anyone who doesnt cry at the end, has no heart.

Sorry, I couldn't read the original post, the spelling and grammar made me eyes bleed.

I can't take a long post like that seriously, watch some Ghost in the Shell, Trigun and Hellsing Ultimate, take with water and see your doctor in the morning.

Don't know if this has been said but BECK Mongolian Chop Squad is really good if you're into serious anime. It's drawn and animated well the English dub is pretty good, if you like music it's a great show. Look it up it's great.

For those who are neck deep into anime and would like a show that doesn't take itself too seriously and contantly references classic/good anime: Hayate no Gotoku (AKA HAyate the Combet Butler). Currently has about 76 episodes and 271 Manga chapters (and they do a very good job of integrating the two while making them both good on their own).

Detective Conan (AKA Case Closed): Yeah, the cases are formulated as clearly as a House episode, but that's part of it's charm. It's a series that has more run-time pass than actual time in the series (Longer than the Dragonball/Z/GT series', I believe).

Bleach is okay, even if it is maddeningly similar to DBZ in terms of the "a stronger guy appears" every freaking season. Memories of nobody was a good movie, although it probably would have been better as a half-season of filer (and they actually have a reason to not ever reference the events in the movie ever again in the main series).

The Ghost in the Shell movie and series' are probably some of the best in the SciFi genre period.

And that music Really makes you feel that way?
I'm a very sentimental guy. If a piece of music plays during a very emotional moment I'm quite susceptible to Pavlovian conditioning.

Those are a couple of examples, and the most varied ones. Most others of the sort just make me cry. Like <url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cHIyRBkQJEc&feature=related>For You (Music Box version) and <url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BSb-CpCqHio>She Was Weeping Sadly from Kana: Little Sister (holy crap, I still gotta get that review finished!), <url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9O7O5ale-Pc>Plain of Frozen Soil from Kanon, and <url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kbNWTUUusfw>Homesickness from Tsukihime.

...and a couple of <url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H1JgIg38QBU&playnext_from=TL&videos=dkdTdxNK1bc>non-VN <url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G_QP1GpkWW4&feature=related>songs.

Just reading about some of the things that happened to Aeka made me want to go out into my front yard and rip trees from the ground.
I was immersed in the game. A lot of the time I was too sick with worry to feel angry.

If I ever wanted to embarrass myself royally, I'd post the (extremely stream-of-consciousness) notes I took while playing the game. Maybe I'll give that to Rodyle as a birthday gift.

As for review pushing - its a god damn good review, if you ask me, so push on. The more people read it - the better.
Thank you, good sir! It's already my most successful review, which meant if I stopped writing, I could still be satisfied...I've still got a ways to go, though!

I tend to prefer manga, and most of the anime I see are of the adult swim variety. That said, it's an older one, but one of my favorite series that I've seen is Martian Successor: Nadesico. It's a parody of the Mecha genre, and I thought it was pretty good. another one I like is Case Closed/Detective Conan, but it is sooooooo loooooong. I may get some hate for this, but i found G Gundam to be pretty bad, so I must give a counter-recommendation.

Soul Eater, It's about a school created by Death himself which consists of people who can turn into weapons and eat souls, and deathmeisters, the people who weild those weapons.

...I don't think I described it very well but it is AWESOME!

You should watch some Code Geass, I got the first season of it and thought "I'll watch a couple of episodes before I go out". I then cancelled all my plans for the rest of the day, sacked off my firends birthday party and just diligently watched it all, brilliant show on the whole.

Now searching high unt low for the R2 season.
NO DON'T

the second season was horrible, I mean like really really bad, you remember everything good about the first? Yea well it's gone and replaced with mind dulling moments of retardation.
Really? thats a bit of a shock. I might just watch the first few eps then to resolve what happened after episode 25. Then again I might watch it all, I managed to watch all of season 2 of Haruhi Suzumiya and still enjoyed it despite the repetition and weirdness.

I could probably write a recommendation for every person in this thread. Seems a lot of the replies fall firmly into various shades of "I don't like X and I'm seeing a lot of it, so that's all that's being made and I hate that. They need to go back to [the also relatively-recent] Y [that they actually still make if you bother to look for it]." Why is that?

Really; if you like anime, or want to like it, or even have a passing interest, it's not hard to find resources that will help you.

tokyo godfathers

P.S: if you know any awesome (and I mean reeeally aweosme anime) that are relativly new and could restore my faith to japan back to life, please do tell
You are awesome just for mentioning Tokyo Godfathers. And you're right, the quality of anime shows that we see today has gone down the crapper, but there's little us small folk can do about it. Just stick to the 80's, 90's and some of the early 2000 animes and you should be alright.

If you want an anime feature that will blow your socks of, watch Katsuhiro Otomo's MEMORIES.
Here's a review http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.163675-MEMORIES

Oh, self-advertesment, I feel so ashamed.

Trigun, Fooly Cooly, what I've seen of Gurren Lagann, what I've seen of Cowboy Bebop, and a few other assorted things that I don't remember the titles of have been the few anime shows that I have actually enjoyed watching.

As for new Anime, Naruto is the main reason that I no longer watch anime.
I don't watch animes like Bleach/Naruto anymore. I tried to get into them, but their so drawn out and all the filler...it really kills the pacing for me. Then again, I might like them a lot better irf people wouldn't try and force their opinions of the shows in my face declaring it the ''BEST EVAR LOL ACTSHUN!''. If I wanted action, I'd watch Dragon Ball Z. Thanks. :)

I recommend Cowboy Bebop, Trigun or Wolf's Rain. While they sport amazing, amazing English dubs, they are all decently medium sized series (between 24 and 30 episodes) and they do a good job of mixing various elements into the action for a realistic viewing experience. I'm also tempted to watch Baccano! now, because it's become so highly recommended by everyone I know who watches anime and the premise sounds very unique & interesting...
Oh my goodness, Wolf's Rain was amazing. I remember staying up to watch the dub on Adult Swim. Ahh, those were the days.

But, I am somewhat mad. Only one other person has mentioned Monster? It has one of the strongest stories I've seen in an anime in years. It's right up there with Death Note story-wise. It's longer than most, but it draws you in. The tension, the characters, the setting, the writing, the animation, it all comes together to create a show that demonstrates anime doesn't have to be robots and 20+ episode fights to be entertaining. The hero is a common man, a surgeon, not an angst-filled teenager with fantastical powers. So he's easier to relate to, and it's because he's just an ordinary person who due to a chain of events and occurrences has been placed in an extraordinary situation where he must defeat what some believe to be evil incarnate. Honestly, it is worth every moment. I still have 50 episodes left, and I still want to keep watching.

Dots.
Commas.
Use them.
Please.

On topic, I'd say that there's just as much good anime out now as it used to be; difference bing, nowadays we only have the good anime of yesterday; a lot of garbage has been produced and forgotten. Sturgeon's law, ladies and gentlemen; Sturgeon's law.

Quick Anime related question.........

I want to start watching Hellsing, but don't know whether I should watch the original or the new OVA one which follows the manga more closely. What do you guys suggest?
