crass, british hippie-anarchist-proto punks, right?
apocalyptica, those metal dudes who play all on cellos and stuff.
scatman john, is he alive? i heard a thousand times the dude has died. he had one hit then more than ten years later he´s found to be dead. several times since the first time. weird.
Anyone know Siouxsie Sioux, I can't find anyone who listens to her nowadays despite her being such a huge influence on punk, maybe all my friends are just musically illiterate.

i've heard some siouxsie sioux, wouldn' say I listen regularly. when it comes to the punk/goth bands that made the switch in that era I like The Dammned
I'm gonna reel off a few but I've no idea how obscure they are around these parts though.

Oh, hey, the thread's been necro'd!
I was disappointed when I'd joined cause it had died... But now I can participate! Woohoo!
(What? This is a really cool thread.)
Warning: Big post is big.
I'm from Canada, yet I keep hearing about them a lot. Possibly because I listen mainly to Finnish metal and hang around Finnish metal sites. Despite all that, I hate to say that I've never actually listened to them (if I have, I didn't make note that it was them), though, if you'd mention them, I'd know who they are. They're pretty prominent, or so I've found. Symphonic metal, no?
Dude. I'm glad someone called you out on that. If people don't know about Buddy Holly...
I mean, there's a movie about him and everything! His death is majorly written about in the song 'American Pie'!
But February made me shiver
With every paper I'd deliver.
Bad news on the doorstep;
I couldn't take one more step.
I can't remember if I cried
When I read about his widowed bride,
But something touched me deep inside
The day the music died.
The song mentions the day his plane crashed, killing him. It was a February day, and since he died, the composer decided to call it 'the day the music died'.
I can't name any of their songs off the top of my head, nor would I be able to if you'd played me one... But my dad has one of their cds, which he plays often, so their songs would sound familiar if I did hear them... So I wouldn't say they're that obscure, though, they probably are to people my age.
Are you kidding? Abney Park is the greatest! I think there's even a group on here for steampunk... Okay, yeah, they probably aren't that popular. But that doesn't stop them from being awesome.
Are you serious? Stratovarius is a very popular power metal band! Well, this is once again due to my hanging around Finnish metal sites... I still think they're one of the most well-known power metal bands from Finland, though.
Yeah, it's a shame how many people don't know about him. I think it's due to him being mainly known for his poetry and songwriting compared to his singing. Though, Hallelujah, anyone?
Tell me I have weird cousins but hey, Reel Big Fish isn't that obscure to me. I don't know many of their songs that well, but I do know 'Beer' mainly because that was the first song by them that I listened to.
Uh... Even in North America Apo is really really well known.
I mean, a few years ago, I would've agreed with you, but now... I think they must've gotten much more popular with Worlds Collide. I dunno if that's a good thing or not... I really liked their old stuff better. Ah well. Bands change.
Do you mean Van Morrison? Cause if so, Van Morrison is really well known.
Heck, Moondance was the song we had to learn choreography to when I auditioned for drama.
Aren't they Canadian? Didn't they base an album after Robert Pickton? (I might be wrong, I was just reading up on the Robert Pickton trials and came across this information.) I've never actually heard any of their stuff, though.
And now with that out of my way, some of the obscure bands I know! The Creepshow Arcade Fire (One of them went to my high school... not at the same time as me. Though, they did put on a concert in my caf a few years back. It's on youtube...) The Pocket Trio (I know a few of them through high school...)
And with the rest of my music being Finnish or from Northern Europe, I honestly have no clue who is and is not obscure, as not many people around me have heard of half of what I listen to...
