Deus Ex is a game I'll always recommend, and is availavle for PS2 in the form of "Deus Ex: The conspiracy"
It plays much better as a PC game though, thanks to massively hard to navigate RPG style menus on the console version.

God of War 1 and or 2? Some of the most comically over the top action and boss kills on the PS2.
Metal Gear Solid 3 is pretty good too.

I've actually rediscovered the PS2 as well recently, and am playing Persona 3. I think I can recommend it, but I don't know why. 30 hours in I'm sitting there going "Why the hell am I still playing this Japanese high-school/social dating sim?" But for some reason I can't get enough.

I loved shadow of the colossus, but you already have that. If you like mecha games i recommend armored core three. Also if you like hack-n-slash get the original two god of war games and Devil May Cry 3.

Max Payne should be dirt cheap by now and while it's a dated shooter it has a good story told cleverly throguh a graphic novel approach and the atomspher is dark and gritty and feels like somthing out of sin city

Sillent hill 2 and 3 are great if your into the survial horror genere, they too have wonderful stories (sillent hill 2 especially) and are actually quite creepy

Resident Evil 4 is one of the best games i've ever played (and continue to play regularly)
it has action tension, some decent funny moments and it never seems to fucking end so you'll get a lot of bang for your buck.

Grand theft auto Vice City, this should be a no brainer

Mercenaries is big explosive fun. It's like grand theft auto but with air strikes and well structuered missions.

Def Jam Fight for New York is the only head to head fighter i've ever played that actually had a good story mode. you get to creat a character and cutomize his fighting style to your likeing and then go to town on a bunch of rappers. It doesn't matter if you like rap or not, the ability to team up with Ice-T and beat the shit out of Omar Epps is fantastic!

Odin Sphere is a very very pretty side scrolling action RPG. It's featuers gourgeous sprite based artwork and is almost completly voice acted. it has a world of novel ideas and mulitpule stories that you switch between.

Burnout Revenge is a sweet racing game that fast, pretty, and lets you choose from a varity of fun racing modes as well as doing crash courses where the object is to rack up as much points in a single crash on a pre set course.

The Prince of Persia Trilogy should be another no brainer

I'm not a big sports fan so i can't help you there

so that should be enough to get you started

Okami, Resident Evil 4, Metal Gear Solid 3, God of War I and II.

Those are my favorite PS2 games of all time, along with Jak and Daxter and Splinter Cell games. I think the most amount of time I spent on one game for my PS2 was Final Fantasy X. That was like the only game I had when I first got my PS2, but it's still a pretty good game.

If you can track down a copy of Gungrave: Overdose it'll give you hours upon hours of fun, it's a third person shooter in the God of War kinda style of stuff (but it's older/as old as God of War) but instead of the fuck you button being grab it's special shots (ever see a guy kill a boss in one hit with guns that are as big as he is?)

Oh yeah there's a guitar that shoots lightning

and if you can find the original Gungrave I will consider you a god among men.

If you have to ask why, you haven't played it yet.
I'm still only 15, so I barely have any money (let alone a job at all), so if you could provide some reasons why that'd be great... I'm not going to go just buy something without knowing why it's fun, only to end up hating it (like I hated Kingdom Hearts).
Long drawn out quest; a character that can go super-saiyan; the repetitive gameplay notable for the series; questionable English accents; free accompanying FFXII demo...

The list goes on.

Ooh, if you can find it, Spy Fiction. It's like hitman, except going banana-crazy is as fun as being stealthy and it has a good storyline.

PoP series, if you can only afford one PoP: Sands Of Time. 'Nuff said.
Why is everyone in love with the first prince of persia game? I mean, the story was excellent, sure, but the combat was slow and stiff. Warrior Within, although a bit weaker on everything else, was the height of battling fun.

I understand your opinion but in my view it is a really fun game, I love parkour, runny-jumpy games that's why I love Assassins Creed, and that's why I also love PoP: Sands of Time.

My friend made me a list of PS2 games to get, since my 360 broke a while back (even though I barely played it), and since I always bring it to my Grandma's house on holidays to play with all my cousins, I brought my PS2.

Holy shit I fell in love again.

So I'm trying to catch up on lost time and buy tons of good PS2 games.

I'm currently searching for Ico, and getting SotC for free from this girl I know, so those two don't need to be listed.

So yeah, good PS2 games (and why)?
Get Bully. Or Canis Canem Edit as it is know in other regions. Oh! And Psychonauts!
