Don't you get gift/money and other good shit after confirmation? If so hold out for the good stuff then tell them you don't believe in jebus.

P.S. If you get any religious jewelery, pawn it.

Do some more research. At the moment you sound agnostic, not really atheist. Make up your mind before you do this. If you fall on the atheist side, don't go, if you fall on the Christian side or are still agnostic then you might as well go.

I'd say stand up for what you believe in, even if it causes a fight.

I will however tell you what happened to me when I did that... The church I was going to cast me out, called me the anti-christ, and started tormenting my GF at the time, (she went to the church).

In the end I'd say it was one of the best choices of my life though, it showed me who my REAL friends are. You know, the ones who are REALLY with me and not just there with me when I'm like them.

Turns out none of my friends could accept me for who I really was. But I ended up finding REAL friends else where.

If you are an atheist, then you should realize that it is irrational to not do it. There are no negative affects, and your parents give you stuff.

Well, first off, im christian by family descent but i don't really believe in jesus and god and so i'd guess you'd call me an atheist. But my confirmation is in a few weeks...... =\

any advice on what to do?
Are you against being confirmed, or do you just have an abscence of faith?

If the former, object, and hope your mfamily is broadminded enough to understand that you have a right to believe what you want. If the later, I would get confirmed,to avoid to much of a fuss

Would you vote for a presidential candidate based on family preference if they were pure liquid evil? I know it dosn't seem like a big deal, but learning to think and behave on your own is one of the most important qualities you can develop in life. Tell them now and you will be better off in the long run. Don't do it.

I went trough with it and I'm an atheist... It was my own choice and I did it becuase a couple of my friends were doing it and becuase of the presents... To be honest most of the people in the group I was in did it for the presents and most of them don't believe in god. Also I think a reason why people go trough with it here is becuase of tradition and I feel it to be important to note that the leaders were well aware of the situation and didn't try to force anything on anyone...

But then again I live in Sweden and I doubt it will be the same were you are from...

So, here is my advice:

If you are still living in your parents house, do it. It doesn't have to mean anything to you and if it doesn't, then it was just a ceremony for nothingness. Honestly, the confirmation ceremony, in the end, means jack squat to whether you will one day leave the church.

If you are not living with your parents, don't do it. It's your choice and now that you are free of your parents control it is time to nut up and start making it clear that you are a person independent of them. If they are logical then they will just "pray that you will come around" if they aren't logical then they will disown you, but that usually doesn't last.

I put the stipulation of living with your parents for the fact that you don't want to get kicked out, which is a possibility.

Well the whole idea of you getting confirmed means that they're probably serious of turning you into another drone so I suppose if you want to live, go with it then announce that you're atheist out of nowhere when you're 18 then run for the hills.

Around here they give you money and small gifts when you get confirmed, so it's win win. Your family gets to think you're a good little christian, and you get to secretly mock everything and get free stuff.
