As bad as it is, I can't help but feel sorry for the guy.
In essence, he's an old, stubborn man with a belief that he feels to feel right down in his heart is the right thing to do. Maybe he shouldn't try to inflict that upon the world, but when he was removed from the legal-system he lost a lot of the means to make a name for himself. Now he's pretty much one of those tramps sitting outside city-centres, waving a card around saying "The end is near!"
Then I remember how funny I find those tramps and then I laugh at Thompson's desperate plea for attention from a situation he threw himself into with more gusto than a herd of truly suicidal lemmings.
Hopefully he just quietens down and focuses on his family and his own life as much as he does other people's.
