Well Bitcomposer holds the license and I think they thought they could squeeze a quick buck out of an old IP.

This is a point though that irks me greatly. Kalypso got a budget to screw around but when a studio has some good ideas it needs to use a kickstarter... -Grrrrr-
Hopefully Bitcomposer can do a better job than Kalypso. And as a veteran of most East Europe companies...yeah. Hopefully they won't last too long X3

You threw that at me but you had accuracy like the JA2 guys in my squad so it went the opposite direction! :p
I am deeply, deeply suspicious that you didn't know how to spend action points to properly aim a shot.

Best turn based tactical game ever made, my friend. I enjoyed XCOM...a LOT...but it's a heavily streamlined, buggy as hell, questionably balanced mess. It's not really a patch on the original XCOM or JA2. I do wish you were a little less retro-phobic, but there's naught to be done. You tried it at least, that's more than a lot of people would do.

Back in Action likely received it's funding before the industry pulled its head out of its ass and realized turn based strategy wasn't as obsolete and unmarketable as previously thought.

Of course, it sounds like Kalypso are well known incompetents, so that likely played a role as well...

If it makes you feel better, I only now JUST realized how to access the instruction book (I didn't think I got one since it was a digital download). Once I have gone through XCOM, I will likely give JA2 another fly-over to see if I can find the diamond that so many people claim this game to be.

It's no skin off my nose. I'm trying to help you help yourself, Tippy, by introducing you to a grand old classic!

As for your XCOM game, that should be any minute now, eh? You've almost done getting us all killed.

And I appreciate that. Having just barely dipped into the PC gaming sphere, there is a lot that I know I missed and having a guide is always useful. Especially a game like Jagged Alliance where there is a good version and a shitty version :)

As to the XCOM group...the horror....the horror....so many dead.....blood everywhere..........

Not all older games hold up, but I'm still of the opinion that JA2 is perfectly playable. Could it use better resolutions and a cleaner UI? Sure, but the game mechanics are rock solid.

You really should've cut your losses after the panic and evacuated who you could. That mission was already lost, but you could've saved 33% or more of your A-Team. I'm pretty sure that game is functionally over at this point. You're not really in a recoverable position.

I'm actually playing JA2:BIA right now, because I never completed all the side missions.

I did attempt to retreat out of there but the Skyranger retreat zone wasn't at the spawn. I assumed that meant I couldn't retreat...

I just killed everyone for no reason, didn't I? :'(

Eh. Probably another bug.

Part of the reason I haven't touched it in a while now. Too many goddam bugs, some of them extremely serious, that still haven't been patched. And too much map repetition.

Hello Escapist community and hi :)

My name is Javier O'Neill , I am the lead artist working on Space Hulk and more specifically Full Control. The reason I am writing to try to get more support for our Kickstarter and help make our goals.

Although you may not have heard of us yet, we are confident that with your support our little indie game studio can make a really good Jagged Alliance game.

Just a short bio about myself, I've been working as a 3d artist for over 15 years, 8 of which have in game development. If we get a chance to make Jagged Alliance it will be the 8th game I would have worked on, note able others include Spec Ops: The Line and Unreal Tournament 3. I've been working for AAA monsters studios most of my career but the one company I have really enjoyed working on has been Full Control. The one thing that attracted me to work at this studio was the experienced team they had set up and the enormous potential the company has. Just the fact they were able secure a Warhammer 40k speaks volumes about the potential this studio has.

I would be happy to answer any sort of questions you have about the game here and over twitter. If you love turn based strategy, please support our kickstarter and help us make Jagged Alliance Flashback.

Javier

Oh for the love of...

I've been waiting for a proper Jagged Alliance game for years, and now that it's on Kickstarter, I don't have any damn cash.

Really hope that this one makes it, unfortunately I won't be able to back it.

Well if we keep bringing it up. Then perhaps we can get a bit more supporters... And we FC have made a few updates since then...

And good to see another fan here that hated In Action :)
Back in Action is an atrocity that does not deserve to bear the Jagged Alliance name. Jagged Alliance 2 is arguably the finest turn based tactical game ever made (it can wrestle for the honor with the original XCOM).

Alas, very few people here have played it. I tried to get Tippy to play it but he pronounced it too old and slow for his modern tastes. I threw my copy of M.U.L.E. at him.
if we focus exclusively on the turn based combat i would argue that xcom is no where close to how good JA2 was. the whole management and R&D is a lot better but the combat is nowhere near as good

thursday
i get my money on thursday, i will donate then.

This guy talks some sense atleast.
I'll add that the strategic map of JA2 offers more gameplay than UFO:EU's Geoscape layer. JA2 also has better squad tactics and a more interesting system for recruiting and managing soldiers.
The UFO experience was held up by the the sum of all it's little parts including research and construction, but JA2 is better.

I played JA1 in addition to JA2. (Get off my lawn.)

I'd like to see a bit more before I jump onto another game Kickstarter, though. The big thing isn't really the graphics engine they're using or the conversational system or the mercenary customization; it's things like the AI, the pathfinding, the line-of-sight system. I'd also like to hear more about who's doing the spoken dialogue than "it will be in English."

(I have let JA characters die simply because their voices were that annoying.)

Still, promising start.

Welp... I've just backed my first Kickstarter.

I freaking love JA2. Been playing it for years, and still continue to play it from time to time thanks to 1.13.

Also... fuck Back in Action.

Thank you very much for backing us, the whole team appreciates it.
