let me summarize:

- swearing for the sake swearing, because it's so cool for all the 12 year olds and it totally doesn't make you look like a complete fool and every videogame persona needs to have a stupid pseudonym like being angry, confused and whatnot

- penis drawings with MS paint and a lot of dick jokes (...)
- says in 5 minutes what could be said in 30 seconds
- repeats himself
- made many unedited mistakes, "saying Hideo Kojima is the Steven Spielberg of films (?)"
- beyond poor production values and he doesn't even try to make an effort
- awful attitude, blames audience and talks down to them
- overanalyzing the obvious

by the way, in his video he criticized an Adventure game (Heavy Rain) for being Story driven...

An Open Letter to Destructoid on Jim Sterling?s Misogyny [http://borderhouseblog.com/?p=4298]

he's also a regular guest on gamersareembarrassing [http://gamersareembarrassing.wordpress.com/]
I've followed D-toid for a while and while I don't respect Jim's opinion or method of conveyance, I can assure you that this is most definitely part of the "act." Most people in this thread have already come to the correct conclusion that he's a professional troll. And no, he isn't a misogynist. The way the internet just throws around the word is even more sickening than the actual misogynistic mindset because it weakens the power of the word. When everyone's a misogynist, no one's a goddamn misogynist.

In fact, if you read the damn Twitter post, Anna would be totally justified in her claims that Sterling is a misogynist IF SHE DIDN'T FARKIN' WRITE: "It's pretty sad you don't know what a fucking vagina looks like can't you like pay for sex now." I don't know how the argument started (convenient?), but I can definitely imagine her starting the conflict. And if I were Jim, I'd sure as hell want to push her buttons for saying that. And gamersareembarrassing shouldn't be let off the hook either for calling Destructoid a place of "rape culture" after reading ONE FCKING SENTENCE from a 2500 word article. Is the humor infantile and jock-ish? Yes. Is it a cheap hook to the article? Yes. However, are the accusations blown out of proportions and totally out of line? Most definitely, yes. Slander? Maybe. Are both publications also trying to get views by making a controversy out of nothing? Hell yes. The difference is that Destructoid doesn't claim to be journalistic or neutral whatsoever, and if anyone took an actual peek instead of CTRL+F'ing a few select words, it would be plain to see.

Sorry if it feels like I'm yelling at you, but I'm tired of all the easy accusations and cherry picking when it comes to sexism (gomakemeasandwich.blogspot.com). You guys are doing a disservice to a legitimate movement for equality and respect. It's so easy to point fingers and vilify Sterling or the "gaming culture," but apparently, it's a lot harder to look in the mirror. It's just as douche-y to invoke misogyny as it is to play the race card or call Obama a Nazi-Socialist pig.

Wow, in fact, none of this post was directed at you. Sorry again. And now I feel dirty for defending the douchebag.

P.S. Read the comments in the D-toid article that gamersareembarrassing featured on the front page. One comment about the areola thing. No one seems to have noticed it or cared. One comment makes the whole community part of a "rape culture." Christ. That site should feature itself as an example of gamers being embarrassing.

Videos are a visual medium, and I really didn't see any point where this guy benefitted from being filmed. I think he would much better suit a podcast. His points, good enough, but I didn't really like it. Didn't feel very highly polished and as I said already, didn't seem to need a video over just an audio stream.

Hm, I'm not totally convinced one way or the other on if this is a show I will be watching in the future. We'll see where it goes from here.

Yahtzee said this whole bit better in a column like a year ago. I agree with the basic point but this is un-insightful boiler plate delivered with sub-par production values. Moviebob's Gameoverthinker show is way smarter then this even with the silly clone story going on.

Also this whole character is obnoxious and un pleasant to watch. I don't mind angry or jerky characters who let everyone else know their the smartest guy in the room but when they have nothing interesting to say and address only you (meaning the audience)and treat you like an idiot it gets boring fast. I'd switch to a voice over as well, the video quality is low and you've got a face radio (also those aviators are not complimentary).

A face only radio could love, from a guy who I knew of only by virtue of his reputation on GJAIF and other sites that like pointing out his serious problems with treating women like objects and treating game journalism like a marketing stunt....hmmmm. Think I'll skip this one.

Don't for one second think that just because you are the most commented, means that you are controversial. You are a troll. I can't believe that people far more deserving of a spot on The Escapist get beat out by Yahtzee wanna-be's like you.

great post, I agree to a certain degree with you and I'm following Jims articls/reviews/videos for quite some time now (read all my posts from page 21 till 27 [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/6.278156-Jimquisition-Videogames-Are-Not-Movies-Get-Over-It?page=21])

to be honest, I just added the two links for flavour, to back me up and show that he's unlikeable and often says completely unnecessary stuff (even if he might be right, but him being right is rarely the case)

I'm not a fan of forced debates either, I mean sexism is pretty much in every media. Being overly sensitive (and sometimes even sensible) only makes your life harder, doesn't matter what the subject is.

(a bit offtopic)

But let's face it, Sexism and the gaming culture go hand in hand, it's nothing new. To be honest, I'm not the biggest fan of these (overused) "Sandwich" and "Kitchen" jokes myself but they don't really bother me because they're what they're ... jokes. (well, most of the time) but then again, hiding behind "it's just a joke" is a cop-out many times

Sometimes the gaming community goes way too far, like the mentioned websites show, it goes to hateful misogyny with rape jokes, hate speech like calling women subhuman.... seriously wtf

I mean there are semi grown ups who debate all day long on a forum which electronic device is better and why you should have the same opinion as they do... gamers behaving childish is nothing new.

There is no deny that this is one of the biggest reasons why gaming is looked down upon and the reason for this anti social gamer stereotype. Sure other media does the same to some extent, most of the time in mainstream hollywood movies, but if you only watch trite hollywood movies than it's your own fault (same could be said about music and music videos), there are plenty of alternatives, and this is what games lack (read lack, not entirely missing) when female characters are presented.

Ok here a really stupid anecdote, there are car shows for the younger/semi grown up people with "bimbos", stupid music and whatnot, there are prestige car shows with style, there oldtimer shows for the older audience and much more. While pretty much every gaming convention looks and feels the same to me. It really lacks sub cultures and varieties.

Again, I think they address sexism most of the time because it's one of the main reasons why games are considered childish and I think these bloggers are aware that there are plenty of normal down to earth guys playing videogames, but you know how it is, the biggest morons are always the loudest [http://fatuglyorslutty.com/]

(btw. one of the other reasons is unnecessary violence according to a survey) (/offtopic)

With that being said, my main critic points still stand.

He tries way too hard to sound cool and preachy, even if it's just his "act", nobody wants to be talked down by a stupid internet show, he might get the attention the first few episodes but it will get old really quick, just like it was the case with his youtube show.

I'd rather listen to him telling his side of the story like a conversation than listening to a guy who acts like he's smarter than the viewer and makes loud claims... even if he's smarter and more into the industry than us, he doesn't need to act so pretentious about it, smart people usually don't act like smartasses.

If the presentation is awful and uninteresting it gets a lot harder to take the actual content serious.

And I have nothing against swearing ... we all do it, but swearing for the sake of swearing (overusing it to sound tough and badass) is just childish and unintelligent and even more so if tries to achieve the opposite with his show.

// and sorry for the weird- grammar, spelling and sentence structure ... english isn't my mother tongue (like many of you guys probably already "guessed") and complaining on a high level is really really difficult for me

I always cringe when I read my posts a few days later :S
even you are more qualified than jim.
funny isn't it?

Mmmmm, no thank you. There's a better way to convey this idea/opinion without screaming in my face for five minutes and MSPaint drawings of dicks. This kind of ranting goes against the quality of work for which the Escapist is known.

Seriously. I know I don't have to watch it, and I won't. But I really don't think he fits in with the rest of what goes on here, and the image of the magazine.

Did not care for it.

Just his voice, mannerisms, the topic... just everything about it was unappealing.

Didnt help that he reminded me of ricky gervais...

Everything about this was just bad. His voice, his horrid mic quality, the editing, Everything!

Yahtzee you are not, sir! So long and thanks for all the fail.

I dunno why but the background music for the whole rant sounded like it should be the stuff you get when speaking to a Super Paper Mario(only the first 2 the 3rd doesn't count) character who turns out to be a miniboss later.

So... Isn't this supposed to be updated on Mondays?
I was thinking the same thing! Does the lack of new video mean no more from the Jimquisition then? (honestly though, I can't say I'm too disappointed...)
