I've followed D-toid for a while and while I don't respect Jim's opinion or method of conveyance, I can assure you that this is most definitely part of the "act." Most people in this thread have already come to the correct conclusion that he's a professional troll. And no, he isn't a misogynist. The way the internet just throws around the word is even more sickening than the actual misogynistic mindset because it weakens the power of the word. When everyone's a misogynist, no one's a goddamn misogynist.LyR said:let me summarize:
- swearing for the sake swearing, because it's so cool for all the 12 year olds and it totally doesn't make you look like a complete fool and every videogame persona needs to have a stupid pseudonym like being angry, confused and whatnot
- penis drawings with MS paint and a lot of dick jokes (...)
- says in 5 minutes what could be said in 30 seconds
- repeats himself
- made many unedited mistakes, "saying Hideo Kojima is the Steven Spielberg of films (?)"
- beyond poor production values and he doesn't even try to make an effort
- awful attitude, blames audience and talks down to them
- overanalyzing the obvious
by the way, in his video he criticized an Adventure game (Heavy Rain) for being Story driven...
An Open Letter to Destructoid on Jim Sterling?s Misogyny [http://borderhouseblog.com/?p=4298]
he's also a regular guest on gamersareembarrassing [http://gamersareembarrassing.wordpress.com/]
In fact, if you read the damn Twitter post, Anna would be totally justified in her claims that Sterling is a misogynist IF SHE DIDN'T FARKIN' WRITE: "It's pretty sad you don't know what a fucking vagina looks like can't you like pay for sex now." I don't know how the argument started (convenient?), but I can definitely imagine her starting the conflict. And if I were Jim, I'd sure as hell want to push her buttons for saying that. And gamersareembarrassing shouldn't be let off the hook either for calling Destructoid a place of "rape culture" after reading ONE FCKING SENTENCE from a 2500 word article. Is the humor infantile and jock-ish? Yes. Is it a cheap hook to the article? Yes. However, are the accusations blown out of proportions and totally out of line? Most definitely, yes. Slander? Maybe. Are both publications also trying to get views by making a controversy out of nothing? Hell yes. The difference is that Destructoid doesn't claim to be journalistic or neutral whatsoever, and if anyone took an actual peek instead of CTRL+F'ing a few select words, it would be plain to see.
Sorry if it feels like I'm yelling at you, but I'm tired of all the easy accusations and cherry picking when it comes to sexism (gomakemeasandwich.blogspot.com). You guys are doing a disservice to a legitimate movement for equality and respect. It's so easy to point fingers and vilify Sterling or the "gaming culture," but apparently, it's a lot harder to look in the mirror. It's just as douche-y to invoke misogyny as it is to play the race card or call Obama a Nazi-Socialist pig.
Wow, in fact, none of this post was directed at you. Sorry again. And now I feel dirty for defending the douchebag.
P.S. Read the comments in the D-toid article that gamersareembarrassing featured on the front page. One comment about the areola thing. No one seems to have noticed it or cared. One comment makes the whole community part of a "rape culture." Christ. That site should feature itself as an example of gamers being embarrassing.
