No I wouldn't join as for self defence I'd set up a few auto turrets and let the rest take care of it's self.

Funnily enough that's the same advice I give to people about a job in retail.

Good luck with that.
I would've joined the United States Air Force but personal issues prevented me from joining years ago.

I personally wouldn't, then again Costa Rica hasn't had a military for 60 years. My step brother, on the other hand, is joining the Marines.

Yeah but you can't talk back at the people who get up in your face or insult you, let alone shoot them.
Oh how I'd love to shoot some of them >_>

Hey, do Airsoft instead of Paintball. Way more realistic and Tactical.

On Topic: I plan on joining the British Army as soon as I'm 18/19.

Well, I am having a hard time trying to commit right now. My brothers family is really suffering right now and he is over in Afghanistan. I just dont know if I would have the patience.

It might look like I will be joining in a bit here, if we decide to go to war with North Korea. That man is fucking crazy, and the military is currently short on helicopter pilots.

Hello escapists.

Last night in the middle of the night i decided i was going to dedicate my life to joining the Army.

At the age of 17 out of school and i dont have a job, My mum is basically kicking me out the door unless i can get a job, so heres what im going to do.

Every morning go for a run. I have made a course out of my neighbourhood wich is roughly 2.5k's (like a mile and a half i think).
And 100 push ups and sit ups later on in the day.
Also im gonna try gather some mates to do paintball, ive been once and i totally want to do it again.
(Im not un-fit but i could use some exercise)

At the end of 2010. Im going to try and sign up for the Australian Army.

I'd never join any Military. Useless in this day and age frankly, the only wars that will be fought from now on will be via computer and using bank notes, not bullets. :)

If you do sign up and get shot, don't come crying to us. British families still seem gobsmacked when soldiers get shot or blown up. Don't know what they expect really.

i don't wanna sound like a dick, but...are you sure you have what it takes to kill someone?
There's lots of jobs in the military that aren't all knocking down doors and killing people.

I doubt I would ever join the defence force. My character is simply better suited to more academic, scientific pursuits. A job in the army is great for some, but the only situation in which I could see myself signing up would be where such a decision was necessary or was particularly motivated by circumstance.

If you really want in shape I'd suggest running a bit more than just 2.5kilometers/day. Do like me, run 8-10 a few times a week instead. I have thought about joining up after school, but before university, but I didn't get drafted. I may apply still, haven't decided.

*just making sure you realise that from the beginning this has been exaggerated in jest, I'm not actually suggesting the military is comparable in frustration to retail*

But I was talking more about the people you deal with that aren't your colleagues/superiors I can stand dickhead managers (not that I have to) but I'm forced to be nice to customers who despite popular opinion are seldom right and can be massive dickheads sometimes.

Then again at least the people you help in retail can sometimes be grateful, in the military they're just as likely to shoot you in the back.

It's good to see that you're exercising in anticipation of the physical training, but be aware that it will still be incredibly hard work.
