(shrug) I find it a lot less pathetic and immature to play games in fictional worlds for fun than to lie to people about the fictionality of worlds for a living...

"Baffled by the fury of adult gamers," he wrote. "These are grown (?!?) men who sit around all day playing computer games with one another who've today chosen to enter the real world just long enough to complain about my story slamming a Raoul Moat version of Grand Theft Auto! You would think I'd denied the Holocaust!!! Think I'll challenge them to a virtual reality duel....stab....I win!!!"

Proof the reporter (I use the term loosely with anyone writing for a trash rag) does not know WTF he is talking about, virtual reality has been dead since that tird of a movie Lawn Mower Man appeared in the gas station bargain bins.

fabricating a video game that does not exist based around a guy going postal, comparing it to the atrocities of WWII is stretching it a little far, but still, trying to damage a form of entertainment that is already constantly being blamed for humanities problems (that were already around long before the first computer ever got switched on)is just wrong.

And I'll jam an Escrima stick up him sideways if he wants a duel, because between sitting on my arse playing games all day (his words), I study Kung-Fu, as well as work an 8-5 job.

Much like Westboro Baptist Church, this guy is just trolling for attention. The more people complaining, the more he'll be an arse. Just ignore him and anyone else who goes out of their way for attention.

Being an American, I'm not entirely sure what kind of paper the Star is, but regardless of what kind of paper it is, if you write up an article and call it true, and you're caught with your pants down and people right away can tell it's fake by doing a thing called observation and investigation, just man up and admit you lied man.

Let me get this straight: Brain dead reporter writes yet another anti-gaming rant based on a game that doesn't even exist, and is genuinely baffled when the gaming community lashes out, then procceeds to attempt to mock them based on a stereotype.

Okay, guys, here's something for you all to think about: your reactions and responses are, in some ways, proving his points and opinions about gamers. A "reporter" for the Daily Star, a tabloid news-rag notorious for making shit up, made some shit up. Most sane, rational people already know not to take the reports of such a newspaper seriously(they're not worth more than a momentary distraction while waiting in line at the grocery store) and generally won't react with more than a chuckle at the absurdity of it all, if not completely dismiss it altogether. Yet, some of you all are going into childish, nerd-raging rampages about the hyperbolic opines of a obvious charlatan associated with a known unreliable information source, which lends an air of credence to his claims. Come on, people! Grow up, already. His opinions don't matter and should just be ignored. Don't give worth to his words by giving attention to what he says or degrading yourselves to his level of flaming vitriol.

What an idiot. I expect to hear more from this jackal as time goes on, especially if that dear sweet naive granny gets wind that she was hoodwinked by this buffoon. What's the max you can get in the UK from a successful civil lawsuit for this sort of lying and manipulation?

Alright, I've got a new enemy to add to "The List". *writes Jerry Lawton's name under Micheal Atkinson's*

Hmm, do you think 4chan would be up for attacking someone else or would they be too tired after that Jessi Slaughter debacle?

(I kid, I wouldn't ever sic 4chan, specifically /b/, on someone... Just hire someone else to do it for me.)

Geizr: There is a problem to ignoring it though. In that these papers print lies and half truths everyday and get away with it, because folks just ignore it. Then there is the fact that there ARE folks who take it seriously. If these sordid piles of trash were held to account properly, if they were forced to tell only the truth as it should appear perhaps this country wouldn't be in the state it's in. Of course it may be that we're like this just because we suck wholesale.

I'm pretty sure someone is going to be suing this man. Be it Rockstar, for slander and the like, the grandmother, who clearly suffered emotional trauma from having to deal with this poor, bitter man and his fabrications, or the Daily Star itself, because regardless of their general quality, one would hope that this would be below even their meager standards.

On top of that, you'll never know how hilarious I found the blatant hypocrisy that is present when he is insulting adult gamers. To refer to them as immature shut-ins, he seems to be acting pretty childish himself when posting this on Facebook, of all places. And to be honest, his little one-sided argument there, when it wasn't making me fall over in a fit of laughter, was simply infantile. The most depressing part is that this is what we have to come to expect from "journalists" like himself.

Odd that he completely ignored the whole, "Journalistic integrity? What's that?" thing and went straight for petty insults.

Great to see he clearly neither has a grasp on reality, nor simple demographics- the average age for a gamer is well past the "teen" years, and yes, considering that it is possible to make a living on it, just like how I take my journalism seriously, I too will take my gaming (somewhat) seriously. At the end of the day it's still just a game, but the industry takes these kinds of things seriously like how the sports industry takes false accusations seriously. I mean, I don't know about the British court system but in the US we have this thing called "Libel." It's grounds to be sued.

It's possibly worth pointing out that the price of the Daily Star was reduced to 20p, or about 30 of your American cents, presumably because that's the only way they'll get anyone to buy it. In fact I saw an ad on the side of a bus today saying it's now only 10p, although I don't know if that's just a special offer. That's a pretty reasonable indication of the level we're working at here. The only useful purpose it serves is an alternative to toilet paper.

In the grand scheme of things: a journalist trying to make gaming look bad. Oh. Right. That's definitely never happened before. Move along, etc.

(Incidentally, I love how I was linked to this topic by the legendary Charlie Brooker on Twitter before I saw it here for myself.)
