Drew listened, examining the device the man called Edgar described. "I dunno... sounds like with a bit of work, it'd be better for keeping things locked up than unlocking them. Like a security system of some sort..." Drew said, looking at a few other doodads as Edgar responded to the others. It was clear he wasn't quite all there, but he wasn't hostile, so that was a plus to Drew. The fact that someone had been here long enough to go off the deep end wasn't comforting, but Drew would take what he could get.

"You said there are some things with answers. Any idea what or where they are?" He decided to try and get as much helpful information as he could. "Actually, do you have anything to help travelers? Like a map?" He wasn't expecting a map, but there was always the chance that Edgar knew his way around. He waited for the others to speak, looking at another few machines.

"Course, my hospitality might also rely on what kind of company you keep, and so far two of you told me your name, and two of you have yet to introduce yourselves despite speaking to me, or wandering my castle."

"I am Gabriel Westmar, master Edgar," Gabriel introduced himself with a short bow. He took a few hints from the older man's attitude towards Alexander. "Please excuse the crossbow; it's a supplement to my magical capabilities." Limited as they are... "As for our cause... hmm." He trailed off, remembering some things the man had said earlier.

"Can you imagine I have almost perfected getting this world to work with another one? ... Think a couple thousand years would provide some insight?" One or more millennia? This Edgar fellow was clearly more than he seemed. His staff was clearly meant for some purpose other than a traveller's aid, judging by its head.

"Apologies. Our objective here is a simple one. We need to find the source of the problems that have been caused in our world, and find a way to resolve it in a way that prevents these issues from developing further." As Gabriel explained the mages' task, he chose his words carefully in case Edgar had something to do with the creation of the portal and took offense.

Silvana felt that the boy was a bit too bright for her to look at straight on, so she looked at him from an angle. It felt a bit rude to her, but nothing she could do about it without practically blinding herself. "Partake in rituals? I dunno if I'd be of help there." She wouldn't think any rituals she would know would help them with cleansing the lake. "I mean, if you think I can help I could try." She was still kind of unsure about it, but she did know some rituals.

Edgar regarded Horatio as he did all kinds of bowing, and suddenly seemed to smirk. Stepping over to the rogue mage, and then continued onward over to Gabriel as he introduced himself, he seemed to realize the mages were actually more interested in something different.

"Heh, don't think more bows means I trust you more, Horatio. Five months of wandering the lands and my castle and you have only gone to your own room? I get the distinct feeling you are going to need to be a lot more...honest in your future dealings. Then again, I get the feeling that none of them will be quite as...conversational as I am." Edgar said, going to one of the strange round gadgets and picking it up. He tossed the ball up and down a few times, then regarded Drew again.

"Ahhh...therein lies the trick, my good mage. Those who have the answers tend to be rather cruel and...pricey. And I unfortunately don't have any maps, as we tend to keep to our own areas. Wandering about is quite dangerous, in case you haven't noticed. And not only that, the new "Mistress" Serena has decided to start flexing some newly found muscle. Stomping around the lands, making a few holes in my castle...an annoyance here, but probably more dangerous the further you go. As far as maps go, there likely won't be any found anywhere, since it isn't a habit that...most denizens have taken up."

Going back to sitting down, he laughed at Gabriel.

"Fear a bow? Don't worry about your appearance, my good Gabriel. In fact, that should be the last thing concerning you. Appearances are very....tricky in this world. Then again, most things are tricky. For example....would any of you mind if I took a taste of one of you? Just at taste, mind you. I haven't run into anything like yourselves in a very long time, and I would be interested in what you are like...."

"What is this, Seth? I'd say it looks a lot like what we did before, but it's weird."

"I'd say...I'm not sure at all. I mean, it looks like Silvana has a friend, but I don't think any of these guys are particularly...talkative..." Seth said, looking around as the spirits largely continued to go around the lake. In fact, more and more spirits seemed to gather around the lake, and some water spirits had even risen out of the lake itself to greet the new arrivals.

However, during the meeting, some of the spirits seemed very interested in the three mages together. Several black forms and white forms lingered around the mages, with a pair of the stone golems keeping a close eye on them. While not exactly locking them down, it would be probably considered rude to push past them...

"I get the feeling that we are...interrupting something. Or a part of something now. Personally...I would rather be out of here. I don't like the fact that...well, I don't think they'll like me." Seth muttered with a smirk, turning about to single out each one. He couldn't be sure that his flames would take care of all of them. Would certainly do a number on the dark things though.

"What do you think? Wanna try to pull out of here, or think we should just...wait for them to do whatever it is they are doing?"
"Very good. Your assistance will help much more than the spirits before you. Being different means so much during rituals, don't you agree? It means a change, a chance, something that wasn't there before that can be found. Do you know how the locating works? I'm told by the spirits that it is so easy, but they do not point me in the right direction. Tell me of the ritual of locating, please." The boy asked, offering his hands as if expecting Silvana to actually lead in the ritual.

Meanwhile, the spirits which had been near Silvana had moved onward, either to the lake itself, or towards the other mages to somewhat encircle them. The ones who had gone to the lake were partaking in the waters. Some of the spirits drank, others washed, and some just gazed into the watery depths.

As more of them decided to introduce themselves, Cale forgot to introduce himself to he awkwardly did so.

"Ah, I'm Cale by the way." Cale simply said. "Any information you would be willing to give us would be worth it. You have lived here and have greater experience with the way things work here. Is this 'Mistress Serena' also a mage like yourself? What element does she control?"

Cale hoped he wasn't coming off as too needy but they needed as much information as possible if they are to complete their task. Then he questioned the man more when he asked if he could taste Gabriel but he was the only individual who seemed to know what exactly was going on around here. Cale kept his guard up although this man would be a terrible foe to fight if things ever escalated of which he hoped wouldn't happen.

"Heh, don't think more bows means I trust you more, Horatio." Joey chuckled along with Edgar. "Wanna bet? I'll bow some more if you want." He thought sourly, His illegitimate smirk matching the Lord's. "...Then again, I get the feeling that none of them will be quite as...conversational as I am." The mage collected some sort of spherical knickknack and began to toss it about, as if he were purposely trying to get the rogue's attention.

"S'fine with me. It's easier to loot corpses anyhow." He shot back in thought. And yet, he couldn't take his eyes off of the object. It was quite obvious his attention was captured, even when the elder mage moved onto another spiel, the rogue mage couldn't take his mind off of the doohickey.

"What's that thing? What does it do? Is it relevant to us? He just said he doesn't have any maps...is it a map? I bet it's a map." His mind piled on the queries, as inquisitive minds tend to do. His mind snapped back to the matter at hand once Edgar began noting on how tricky the land was. At any other time, Joey would've gracefully backed away from a such a demand as "being tasted". But here the rogue was acting out of a foolish sense of curiosity. He stepped forward, wanting to be the guinea pig for this experiment.

"Yeah, okay." He stood at ease, hands behind his back. "Now when you say taste...is this some sort of metaphorical thing, or magical thing, or..." He trailed off.

As Seth talked, Raven caught sight of the spirits slowly circling around the the mages that remained by the lakeside. It was strange that Seth was the one who really wanted to be out of the way of this. That's weird. Usually he's all up for getting involved in the unknown...

"What do you think? Wanna try to pull out of here, or think we should just...wait for them to do whatever it is they are doing?"

She looked around again. One half of the party seemed completely engaged by the spirits, with Fei's friend surely still milling about and Silvana having made herself an acquaintance as well. A couple of the giant golems were watching over the two as well.

"I don't think we really have the option of pulling out of here anymore," she quietly told him. "If we make a break for it, with all of them very aware of our presence, it might look really suspicious. And I don't think I can outrun a bunch of ghosts or anything. They must be talking about something, so I said we wait. If we really don't matter, then they'll do what they want and be done. If we do, I'm sure they'll make it known, either with words or with enough time for us to get out of the way and try and fight them off. For now though, I think running just gives them more reason to deal with us in whatever way they choose."

"Cale is it? I think you are a bit too high strung to be around here. Take it easy, the world will still be there tomorrow. Most likely, anyways." Edgar said, tossing the ball around once again. After Horatio stepped forward, Edgar looked him over up and down with a small grin.

"Well, your probably a tiny bit tainted having been here for a bit, but I think you'll still be delicious. Course, I should have figured that you would not know what I meant. I'll make it obvious for you." Edgar stepped over to Horatio, and pulled out a knife, spun it around, and pointed the blade towards Horatio.

"Grip this. Bleed a little bit on it please. Whatever you are particularly comfortable with, of course. But, don't do too little, otherwise....well, I won't get a taste, obviously." Edgar was still smiling, the ball in one hand and knife in the other.

"Course, if you have decided that you would rather not be the one to give a taste, that would be....fine."
Seth couldn't help but chuckle as Raven suggested that they no longer had the option of getting out of there. Sure, they were made of stone, but that didn't mean they were invincible, just a little harder to cook was all. However, if she was against the action for the moment, he guessed he could let it go. For now, anyways. He didn't much appreciate being somewhat locked in, let alone with no idea what was going on here.

"Sounds like you almost doubt my ability to openly roast my way out of here....but I guess we can stick around and check it out. Even if the most they seem to want to do is 'growl' at us, I guess." Seth said, raising a clenched fist with a grin. He made no flames though, still watching about them as something caught his eye. All these spirits by the water were...leaving? It seemed like some of them were no longer there, or not as many at least.

"Uh....did they just kinda vanish into the lake? Or was anyone watching a bit more closely? Because I'm pretty sure there are not as many....rocks as there were before." Seth noted, wondering if something else was about to happen that would be....well, more unexpected things. He could get used to this, but right now he didn't like it. Least the flowers were nice though.

"Hey Fei, think your friend might know something? Cause...well, I'm curious."

Drew was still looking around the room at whatever device caught his eyes, not even wording his disappointment at the lack of actual help. Edgar's actions towards the new guy, Horatio, made him decide to take a look at a few things at the opposite side of the room. Please don't do something stupid, new guy... last thing we need is another thing trying to kill us.

He had taken a look at a few of the more intricate and elaborate devices, checking whatever movable parts he could. He could feel bits of electricity flowing through his arm and through the metallic gears. He took a few more steps, noticing Cale was raising his guard as well. Smart man... he started stepping over so that Cale was in front of him, but kept looking at the room to not offend their host. "You didn't answer my friend's question. Who exactly is this 'Mistress Serena' person?"

"Oh, Mistress Serena? That lovely lady is someone who showed up....a while ago? Its really hard to keep track of time when the hours don't seem to play by the same rules as other lands." Edgar said with a small shrug. "But you probably want deeper details. Well, she's very attractive, sexy girl. Great in bed, and tastes damn nice too. She has a certain...kick to her, to be honest....oh, but her powers? I guess you could say seduction!" Edgar laughed at that, obviously amused at some of the expressions he was getting.

"Hmph, seems like you are the no fun folks. No matter. She is a mage as well, I guess, but she got a taste of that twisted power. I imagine you saw someone use it by now, that stuff that doesn't seem to obey whatever....rules that were set for the other elements. I would think that its some kind of hidden club that no one has bothered to tell me about. Then again, I guess my extra powers would exclude me from such a club anyways. Its how I got to own this spit of land right here. But, otherwise I would say she's a very strange girl. Always changing outfits, sometimes wearing a nice dress, sometimes wearing some kind of battle armor, other times using strange weapons that explode or...something. I've been trying to mimic those, as they seem to scare just about anything she points them at."

"Of course, you seem to have a certain bit of fire there, Drew, that I could use. I saw you working some of those gizmos....could I borrow you for a moment after this taste? I get the feeling it could be very useful for all of us involved. Unless, of course, you would rather venture onward and outward quickly, in which case I'll have to call off the feast, and eat with usual company."

"Grip this. Bleed a little bit on it please." Joey's face twisted at the directions. Suddenly the Lord's blood red armor made more sense. "Ohhhhh, he meant "physically" taste. As in drinking blood." In hindsight it should've been really obvious. Joey kicked himself for missing such a cue. "Oh. Ah. Um. Uhh...Huh. Hm. Okay. Ummm...gimme a second." Horatio looked on in thought, and weighed his options.

"S'all he wants is a drink? That shouldn't be too bad, I can take a few deep cuts-" He shook that idea away. "Okay, no. Not gonna succumb to some vampire's vile requests...right? He's a vampire, right...? I thought he was a mage...a vampire mage, maybe? Is that even a thing?" He turned his thoughts to the items Edgar held.

"Maybe I should just nab the ball, even if I don't know what it does...If I'm fast enough, I could at least make it out of this room before he realizes what happened..." He consider taking up the blade. "Looks pretty sharp. Maybe I could just drop this damn good guy act and lunge at him. Get him before he gets me. If I survive I could have two daggers!" As his hand extended towards the knife, Drew decided to follow up on a question Cale asked.

Who exactly is this 'Mistress Serena' person?" He asked, breaking Horatio from the moment. Seeing it as a chance to change the subject, Joey's hand shot back to his side. He put on a guise of inquisition as he nodded at the query. As Edgar answered the others, Joey took it as a window of opportunity. He began to inch back from the Lord in between every word. "Hmmm...She sounds...too good to be true. I think you're holding out on us, mister, and I think we deserve the truth! The full truth! Could she get us home?" He crossed his arms and wagged a finger, continuing to inch back, until he knew he was closer to one of the other mages. "And, uh, what does the ball do?" He added quickly.

"Thank you." Cale said through his gritted teeth. Every part of the armored man began to disgust him with every sentence he spoke. He didn't trust the man but they had to in order to make some headway in this world. Edgar mentioned Mistress Serena and 'described' her. If she was as dangerous as Edgar says she is then it wouldn't be a good idea to seek out the woman. Both Edgar and Serena seemed to be mages, that much was certain, but were they byproducts of staying too long in this world? Cale didn't want to find out. Just looking at the man started to make his skin crawl and his shadow was none to pleased by Edgar either. Horatio also wasn't helping.

"Drew doesn't have to do anything..." Cale stepped in. "Unless you tell us who you really are. You ask for blood, I ask you why. Am I at least entitled to know that?"

"So much for friendly guests. Backing out on things you wanna try, as well as being picky about what you are entitled to! First of all, the good Mistress COULD maybe get you home. Not sure what you are in a hurry for getting back there, as if its filled with other people much like yourselves, I think some time away from them would do you some good." Edgar said, doing a small spin with the knife.

"Oh, and the ball does things. Guess you'll just have to find out like everyone else, huh?" Edgar laughed, tossing the ball up one more time, then waving the ball at Horatio much as he wagged the finger at him. Though, when Cale wanted to know about the blood, Edgar grinned wolfishly.

"I would like the taste, is the main reason why. I'm sorry, have you never seen a new kind of food and wanted to give it a try? If not, I'm sorry you lead such a sorry life. So, I would like a taste, and thats the reasoning. Since the one who was willing to give it a shot bailed out, I'm guessing no one else is willing to try?"

It seemed that a few other cats had wandered into the room now. Where once was just a single cat, now seven wandered the room, different colors and sizes, and wandering about the room taking up spots. All were watching curiously seeming to wonder what was going to happen.

"I'll do it. I've done things that would seem far more insane and dangerous than this. I doubt this Mistress would get us home even if she could, and until I've found out what is threatening my home and how to stop it I'm not leaving anyway. I'll take full responsibility for whatever happens because of this." Alexander said to the group more than Edgar, before he walked over and grabbed the blade of the knife and cut his hand on it, the blade stained crimson as he focused some light to the cut to stop the bleeding and close the wound without fully healing it.

"You have my blood, and you owe me nothing for it since you have full right to attack us as intruders but have instead treated us as guests. I must ask you though, since you seem a learned man. Do you know anything about what may cause a magical storm and how to either stop or contain it. Either from legends or from any research you may have done. You of course have every right to not answer at all, but any help you might be able to provide would be appreciated greatly."

Drew stepped away from the incoming cats, finally stepping in front of Cale. "No need to be so hasty." The more he heard from Edgar, the less intimidated he was. The armor certainly gave a distinct first impression, and Edgar seemed unstable, and a had a few screws loose, but he didn't seem hostile. Drew saw an opportunity to find out a few things. If nothing else, the things that surrounded him could at least keep his attention. As much as I'd like to get to meet this Serena person...

He was about to ask about their mission when Alexander spoke up. Good man. Getting things back on track. Laser-focused, that one is. ...Heh. Magic humor... he smirked, stepping beside Alexander. "And as for your other idea... well, what exactly do you want from me? I admit, I'm a bit interested."

"I wasn't saying that!" Raven tried defending herself after Seth accused her of a lack of faith. "I was just pointing out that..." Raven wanted to continue but Seth was clearly distracted. As she turned, she saw the population of otherworldly presences dwindling by the minute.

What? Is their big thing underwater then? They just sunbathing by the lake or something? Wait...

"Hey Fei, think your friend might know something? Cause...well, I'm curious."

"Also, did you see anything weird while you were down there? Rock formations that look a little too polished or something?"

"Backing out on things you wanna try, as well as being picky about what you are entitled to!" Horatio shrugged. "Well forgive me for being a shrew, but i'd rather not become a food source for a vampire." All in all, the situation was beginning to wear on Joey's nerves. Even with all the questions being asked, none of the answers were concrete. Edgar was either playing coy (and, admittedly, so was Horatio), or perhaps stalling for something, and the rogue Earthshaper was about done with the act.

"Oh, and the ball does things." "Yeah, I figured." "Guess you'll just have to find out like everyone else, huh?" The Crimson Lord had a good laugh, and tossed the ball about. Horatio's lofty posture became rigid. "Aww, to hell with this." With his expression plain, He began to step back towards the Lord, the hand behind his back curling around the hilt of his dagger. "No need to be so hasty." Drew said, causing Joey to hesitate. It was clear the Airshifter wasn't addressing him, but he held back none the less.

As he did, Alexander stepped up to the plate, fearlessly taking up the Lord's detestable request. No hesitation either, the guy just sliced himself like it was nothing. Horatio even winced a bit as he did it. "Hm. Better him than me." Though, as he offered himself, Alex began asking for assistance in matters in which Horatio was not aware. "Magical storm? Is that why we were sent here? To stop a storm?" He mumbled in curiosity. Sounded like there were bigger things at play here. "Now I really wished I paid more attention during that briefing."

Edgar looked Alexander over, with a look that could only be called approval as the knife was brought up with the now fresh blood staining it. Edgar gave it a lick, and recoiled.

"Gods be damned! You have some very...spicy blood there! I haven't had such a unique flavor in....a damned long time. It is delicious though, so I can promise you the...'full responsibilities' of your actions will be something you are more than happy to bear." Edgar said, pulling out a strange looking sheath and sliding the knife into it, still stained with blood.

"Thank you for that all the same, Alexander. I'll make sure you are properly rewarded. But, you seem like a man of business, and I shall get right to it! It just so happens that you, my unique colleague, might be able to power something that I've been having....difficulties working with myself. Something about the energy not flowing right." Edgar gave a small wave as he stood, walking over to another set of double doors, this one with yet another odd design.

Edgar placed his hand on the door, and seemed to wait for just a moment before slamming his fist into the wall, causing a few flames to burst out. "Heh, that is always fun....Where was I? Ah yes! What we are going to do is power what I believe to be a map. Now, before you go all crazy on me, it isn't a map of the area....I think. It's more of a map of gates, which I think would be quite useful for all parties involved, right? Though, I need it to be of a particular size and reach, because of what would need to come along, but I would at least like to know where they are first of all."

As the door slowly groaned and began to open, it revealed a room that was seemingly completely dark except for an orb in the middle which gave off a dull spark every now and then. It was hard to even tell how big the room was, with the unnatural blackness seeming to resist the light that invaded from the doorway.

"Now, there is the thing that I need to be jolted real nicely. I don't quite have the gifts to do such a thing, but I imagine that you well educated....well, most of you well educated people would be able to do what needs to be done to see what this particular contraption accomplishes."

"Hey, I wasn't say...." Seth paused, going over what he had said for a moment. "...OK, so maybe I did actually say that. Sorry, I didn't really mean it..." Seth now quietly wished he knew how he should say things...and when that he should say them. While he probably could burn his way out of here, she was likely right that it wouldn't be best first impressions with these...vanishing things.

Where the hell did those stones go though? I mean, I didn't black out or something, did I? Or did I just steal longer glances at Raven than I tell myself? Going to be trouble if this is already going on....

"Maybe our wayward friend-making mage would be willing to share some information...like what they are looking to locate, specifically...." Seth said, stealing a small look towards Silvana.
"I see you are quite torn on this. Do not worry, I am merely looking for someone of light. I know that they have come, as I have seen it in the visions of the lake. But they are not here, like was foretold, so I imagine that I need a ritual of locating in order to know where I really should be, rather than where I am not. So, could you please join me in my ritual of locating? It is important I do not wait too long, for I do not think many spirits wish to linger here much longer than necessary, especially on this plane of existence." The boy explained, thinking that apparently Silvana did not trust his intentions.

While there were still a few spirits around the other mages, some of the spirits began to ignore the mages like the rest before had, and began to do like the others had begun, washing themselves, taking a drink, or seemingly to commune with the water spirits themselves. The water gave no indications of where the spirits had gone, but the only clear change was that there might not have been as many water spirits as there had been before.

"Ah! Maybe they're looking for Alexander or Nydia!" Fei whispered urgently from behind Seth. [small]"I know locating rituals..."[/small] she added afterwards in a small, disappointed voice. These spirits didn't seem very bad, kind of like the water spirit. Still, they looked big and scary. Instead, Fei busied herself writing in her notebook. She should have brought one of her textbooks along, the "Non Combatant's Guide to Hydromancy", a nifty thing with all these kinds of spells that you could use for long term stuff, like weather, or making a river, or a marsh, or helping sick people, or making lakes better for fish, or other things. Ritual things. She didn't bring a book with the other elements' rituals in them, but she could remember some of them. Like, Airshifters like her brother could do the best locating rituals, along with light and dark mages. So Silvana could do one. If she was good enough. Fei didn't know how high ranked she was, or how good she was with her magic. She had to be very good though, cause she was really pretty, and had red eyes, and black hair.

Drew stood back as Edgar opened up the new room. "A map of gates? We might have actually found a way back." Drew gave a relieved sigh before looking inside "Of course, we still have a job to do..." he mumbled as he scanned the dark room before laying eyes on the orb. Seeing the sparks within caught his interest, and Edgar made it clear what was needed. However, he wasn't just going to fire off his new gifts right away at a strange device he knew nothing about.

On the other hand... this is really all we've got at this point. He gestured for the others to stand back. He didn't bother to ask Edgar if it was safe. Any promise of safety coming from that man would not ease his mind at all. He inhaled and started to focus. He was starting to realize just how different this was from controlling the air. It was more reliant on calling on internal power than controlling that which was all around him. Rather than go for the maximum force he could muster, he simply stuck out his finger towards the orb, concentrating until a small arc was flowing between them. It wasn' much, but he started making it stronger.
