well, i dont think theres a jrpg for you.
Nope. Guess not. except for Skies of Arcadia.

But what I was going with this topic was if there was a JRPG that a anti would like, or if there was an occasional "okay, I guess I'll try it" one for a gamer out there.

I'm gonna have to agree with Souplex here, also not being capable of feeling joy means you're not even human. Meaning you're some kind of a robot. Or anthropomorphic Chicken. And everyone knows how miserable anthropomorphic chickens are, have you ever seen the Lilydale commercials? Those chickens have to be suicidal or at least borderline emo after being compared to those delicious, & moist, Lilydale chickens so much... So delicious... And moist... What was I talking about again...?

Persona 3 or 4 for the PS2. I'm not that big on Jrpgs myself, but I loved both these games. Good battle system, good storyline and isn't set in a generic swords and scorcery land.

The World Ends With You has real time combat and no random encounters. The Persona games have original settings. That is all I can think of right now. Hey you just called me a homosexual!

I can understand people hating JRPG's. Anime, G-cups and generic stories are easily blamed for this, but the games also have some amazing bright sides that make up for it. About 20% of have actually pretty excellent story (Persona 3-4, Final Fantasy X), JRPG's also have some of the best soundtracks out of al genres. The voice-acting in the best cases (Fina Fantasy X, Persona 4) really good. And combat systems are some of the most strategic I have ever seen. (Persona 4, Fire Emblem)

I love the anime style, i love it how they design monsters and characters, but the few japanese games, especially jRPGs showed me that i cant really play them because they suck.
-Long boring cutscenes every 5 minutes
-Shallow characters and motivations(most of them at least)
-Mostly linear storyline that takes the control from you every time something interesting would happen
-Frustratingly chaotic or oversimplified(or in worse cases both) turn based battles(dont get me wrong i love turn based games, but only is you have options, like: Fallout games, Jagged Alliance, HoMM series)
-And last but not least: The overly emotional and/or dramatic reactions to everything.

So i beleive there's no jRPGs for people who hate them because if they would drain all the essence of jRPGs they would be stuck with normal RPGs.

What's funny is you keep mentioning FFX, when that's the game that started turning me off of jrpgs.

I love Skies of Arcadia, so for a long time I assumed that I loved JRPGs. The only other one I've ever finished is Final Fantasy VII. Most of them bore me.

Go and play Dragon Quest on the PS2. It oozes charm. Yangus is one of the funniest charecters ever.

There are very, very few JRPS that I like or at least can stand the art-style.
Lost Odyssey, Legend of Mana (favorite game ever), Fire Emblem, and Final Fantasy 8 and 9.

Then there's Skies of Arcadia: Legends for the GameCube. We rented it once and it just drug me in. It had the standard JRPG problems like talking and random turn based fighting, but the characters and dialogue were likable. The exploration aspect, while tainted by the constant occurrences of -GODDAMN- Loopers, was enjoyable and fulfilling. Unlike Kingdom Hearts, I finished this one... I think about three times.
Wait is that the same game a Skies of Arcadia for the dreamcast, 'cause I love that game.

Yes. The GameCube version is the same game, just has more pirates you can battle and a sidequest.
