...me in. I really get engrossed in the stories and gameplay. I just picked up Brave Story New Traveler for 10 bucks. I'd like to increase my PSP rpg collection, so what other titles would you recommend?

I don't know if the games have aged well or not and I haven't even played them myself, but you could check out Persona 1 and 2 for PSP (PS1 game remakes). Or Persona 3 Portable for something more recent (very late PS2). You don't need the first two to understand the third in any capacity.

I've been playing God Eaters Burst recently. Yes it sort of is a bit like Monster Hunter, but it has a story(Beyond do the quests so you can kill the giant thing) and has party members which talk. It's more an action RPG, but still a great game, in my opinion.

Try the Tales of port for the PSP, it's really quite enjoyable.

Hah, I only came into this thread to slightly rage, I havn't been here long and thought this would be the first troll thread I've seen.

I'm playing Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky right now, and it's a really good game so far. I'd definitely suggest it if you don't really like modern JRPGs.

I'd also suggest Crisis Core, but only if you can handle the repetitive combat.

this is just blatant post-count bait isn't it?

i hate it when this happens.

but i actually agreed with your title more than your post.

i don't see how bloated damage numbers and turn-based combat with more linearity than an 8-bit mario rail-shooter is supposed to be immersive or fun in any way.

Aye I have the Persona remake, was actually thinking of starting it up tonight. I can't wait til October. They are finally releasing Innocent Sin in the States. I loved Persona 3, but I was thinking P3P would be worth a go as well to play as a female character.

Yeah, I actually just saw that today while I was browsing Gamestop. Looks interesting I might check it out. I actually have never played a Monster Hunter game so I can't really compare.

Tales of the World is it? I've completed Vesperia, Eternia, Legendia, and Symphonia and adore the series. That one has always interested me.

I know the title is misleading I mostly did it cause of all the threads complaining about JRPGs, so I might as well tell why I think they "suck".

I kinda wish I had a PSP so I could play it myself. I hear she gets new music and altered Social Links too. And of course there's the battle system update. There's apparently no section for The Answer though.

Aw, come on! I was hoping for an opportunity to post this picture:
Not cool, man.

OT: Persona 3, you summon monsters by shooting yourself in the head. How awesome isn't that?

I actually recently completed TitS. It was the tits! Anywho I really hope to see the other 2 parts released soon, it sort of left at a cliffhanger.

Crisis Core was the first game I got with my PSP I really enjoyed it.

I see what you did there. Sneaky move.

For the PSP, there are quite a few remakes/re-releases of great JRPGs. Star Ocean I and II, Final Fantasy Tactics, and Tactics Ogre (or Ogre Tactics, I can never remember which way it goes) are all good.

If you have nothing to add to the discussion take your elitism some place else.

Person 3 Portable definitely, Persona 3 FES was all kinds of awesome.

On PS3, I'd recommend Valkyria Chronicles and White Knight Chronicles. WKC2 comes bundled with the first, and VC2 is on PSP

And for Xbox 360, Lost Odyssey was awesome and you can get it real cheap now. Resonance of Fate is also good, dunno if that is multi-platform or not.

I've heard Birth by Sleep is good (and looks good, from what I've seen).

The story probably won't make as much sense to you if you haven't played at the least the first Kingdom Hearts, though.

Awww... and here I had prepared a bucket of insults to patriotically defend another nations video games (I'm not Japanese).

I get sucked in too. The one problem JRPGs have though is that they seem to have a problem in wanting me to finish them. For instance, I have only finished 3 of the 8 Final Fantasy games I've played. How's that for size?

What I love the most about JRPGs is the value they place of aesthetic. Grit and brown-filters be damned! It's all about instrumental scores, pretty designed characters (albeit usually inappropriately dressed for the occasion) and beautiful scenery. There is also a lot of lag in interaction. For example;

Girl: "You are the chosen one..! (pause) I know it in my heart!"
(Long pause and awkward spasm of the boy)
Boy: "What?"
(Pause)
Girl: "You are the chosen one! The prophecy of ahl'diego-fishsticks foretold of a lanky, whiny, weak-minded idiot to rise against the evil religious person/god/his own father and triumph without any form of character development, and where the have been development it all regresses once the main-quest is over."
Boy: (long pause, shift in centre-of-gravity, slight recoil) "What are you talking about?"

No? How can we not like a culture to toys with Incest, Ephebophilia, Loli-cat girls, Cliche relationships, Violent girls and - albeit rarely - non-taboo sex?

Also; Play Persona if you haven't already. That said, you can just pick any JRPG at random. They all have their own redeeming qualities.
