recently i heard about them doing something like this in the 1800s or something and people believed it that strongly that people jumped of barn roofs at 12:00 thinking they will be raptured up to heaven but instead fall to their deaths.
No that was actually the rapture. We've been stuck in hell for over 200 years now.
You know I think I'd believe that if I wasn't sane.

That being said; who gave these people enough money to actually buy billboard space? Oh wait...I just answered my own question. (The answer is the crazy idjits that listen to them) Dollars to donuts when may 21st rolls around it turns out to be some big promotional stunt for the latest disaster movie...coming to a theater near you soon!

You want to be the one to go through all four temples to release the giants? I don't have the ocarina of time, so we can't try again if we mess this up...

I've been seeing that around too, no idea why it's that day. It may have something to do with Nostradamus or something, I wouldn't know.
Here's where it's (mostly) coming from:

http://judgementday2011.com/may-21-judgement-day/

Here's some great highlights from the site:

Joel Osteen, Danny Davis, and Mike Murdock are three, of many false prophets that we have seen rise to fame and fortune over the last several years.
The recent killing of Osama Bin Laden has sparked debate over the role that Pakistan took in hiding the terrorist from those trying to bring him to justice. Will the United States go to war with Pakistan after interrogating Bin Laden?s wives?
The Mississippi River is flooding. Famine will run rampant in the United States between May 21 and the End of the World on October 21, 2011.
The recent persecutions in child molestation cases of Priests, and other high-ranking church officials may in fact be another sign of the May 21 apocalypse.
And now what the Bible has to say...

Mar 13:32 "But concerning that day or that hour, no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.

Oh I remember the original thread topic from about 3-4 months ago! We are all f- It basically all started after a group thought they found the true date for doomsday by reading between the lines in the bible as god somehow hid it in there. I honestly don't know how this would work as 1) Why wouldn't anyone have noticed till now? and 2) The bible was written by man not god. It may be god's words in a sense but it was made by man and man makes mistakes. Example: Look at history.

Anyway they have been getting the word out and having billboards put up in countries all over the world. Infact they tried to put some up where I live. It was quite funny reading in the news the next day how the police tore them down as the woman who heads this group's husband stood crying and clutching his paper confirming they paid to put them up whilst trying to get them to stop. The same article made a very good point, Why bother alerting people to the end of the world? All it's going to do is cause panic and if it did happen wouldn't it be better not knowing its coming?

Concluding point? No I think its a bunch of junk and I can't wait till the 21st when I'm riding my horse of the apocalypse... wait... maybe they are right... [sub]Note: Their not.[/sub]

You know, I hope they're right. That means in a week all the annoying bloody Christians will be gone and the rest of us will no longer have to listen to their complaints about everything we do.

why are christians wanting the end of the world?
[joke]Cause it is about the only thing that will prove god exists to the heathen scientific community[/joke]

A metric shittonne of religions have been predicting the end of days since forever, ours just can spread their word much further than their local villages/towns.

So the guy who came up with the whole May 21st end of the world thing has also said the world was going to end before.
He has said that the world was going to end on September 4, 1994.
Which (un?)coinsadently is my birthday!!!!

See? It all makes perfect sense. :p
That reminded me so much of this:

OT: I vote we all have a huge end-of-the-world party. But I'm gonna follow the advice of a guy I heard on the radio - tune your TV station to the Australia news network. It'll turn May 21 in Australia before it turns May 21 here. Therefore, the apocalypse will start there a full 23 hours before it reaches me, giving me plenty of time to prepare/convert/finish my beer.
I'll let you know if the world is ending so you can finish your beer.

Throughout my life, I have survived two dozen Doomsdays, some religious, some not (only one I was really scared of was Y2K, but I was ten and my parents got me all worried about it. Thanks for that, Mom). I shall always take the 'no fucking way' side on these prediction, as it gives me the 'I told you so' opportunity (while if they're right I'll be too busy dying to be told that).

I really wish someone would create a book with all the doomsday predictions of the 20th and 21st century, I think that would be an interesting read.

We've been supposedly living in the end times for the past 1,000 years or more. End of the world still hasn't happened yet, not expecting it to anytime soon either.

I once had a conversation with a Christian co-worker about her insistence that the end of days was upon us. After pointing out that Jesus said that we wouldn't know, I said, "Assuming that you could know exactly when the Rapture was coming, what would you change? If you aren't living your life right, isn't it important to change it now regardless of whether or not the world is ending tomorrow? Live the best way you can for today because it is right, not because you fear damnation. Make today better and let the end of the world sort itself out."

You know what's really hilarious? Five thousand years ago, the Assyrians thought they were living in the end times, and that the gods would punish the sins of humanity by bringing about the apocalypse. Fools have always believed this nonsense--what difference does a couple of months make for the ever-postponed Armageddon?
