Question why do you think their should be more homosexuality in video games. What would it really change? With most games unless they made the protagonist very camp it wouldn't be noticeable without a romance subplot which are often handled in a subpar manner in video games.

Honestly I'm by no means straight myself but I hardly find the lack of such content worrying or sickening. When executed right it can be very touching and wonderful to see, but really it's the same with a well done straight relationship in a video game.

(There are parts of your post I can't make sense of so I have not responded to them.)

Just curious.

Huh. I hadn't actually thought about it, to tell you the truth.
I think part of the reason is that developers want to make a character and the rest of the cast as similar to their target audience as possible, which tends to just be the majority.
I don't really see any reason not to put it into video games, as long as it doesn't become a playable PSA. (I hate that sort of thing with ANY topic, it gets so irritating.) Or become really raunchy, cuz I'm not a fan of that with straight characters in video games either.

Hmmm, I'm sure there was a similar thread a while ago.
Get ready for people being offended and saying they could never feel the connection to a gay character as they could to some laser totting space alien.

EDIT:
wouldn't be an issue for me as long as the protagonist was not portrayed as overly camp.
Just like I have no problem playing as a female protagonist as long as they don't sound like a character from clueless ie X Blades

It has been in some games, like the ones already mentioned, but i think the main problem is that if a company made a game in which the main protagonist was openly gay, they would have to contend with the media outcry.
Most companies probably don't see the need to make such a controversial game and risk a lot of money, face and possibly loyal customers in a game that could be banned for its themes.
I'm all for gay rights, and have several gay friends, that all seem to think that homosexuality is represented in movies and video games subtly, so that it is in the game but not a massive controversial point and hope that through this subtle media input that one day there will be an openly homosexual protagonist

I'm sorry but the world doesn't and shouldn't have to cater to your desires.
So there isn't a huge portion portion of homosexuality in games, so what? It isn't like it is being shunned or put down in games. Every nationality and race isn't portrayed in video games. Hell for years shooters have been Americans/Brits/Soviets/Germans you don't see me complaining that my nationality isn't represented. Or how about the lack of black protagonists?
Do you honestly think that having a game developer specifically cater to a homosexual crowd be a good idea? Wouldn't it feel more like a gimmick or just be shoveled in?
And in the end does it really matter what a character's sexuality is? A good chunk of protagonists have no sexual relationships in their games because that isn't the point of the game.
It's like when Dumbledore was announced to be gay. Its like ok....so what? Doesn't change any of the story if the announcement was never made no one would really care.

This is a poor representation of the gay community in games, firstly because its meant to be stupid and secondly because they answer their own question. But its silly and fun, so hooray for God Hand.

I was hoping there would eventually be a game with a gay arab protagonist (not to sound edgy but to actually show has society has moved on and become more mature) but thats pushing it a bit.

There are a few reasons why they don't do it; a couple have already been pointed out.

1) The target audience is mostly straight, and developers want to keep their character within the status quo and have the character easily relatable to.
2) To have a character that is obviously gay could cause issues within the gay community as stereotyping, and would most certainly get Fox and other conservative outlets riled up.
3) Homosexuality wouldn't be an important enough character trait to make a big deal out of, and would instead seem to have been inserted for shock value.

This is true - cater for the masses if you want to make a profit, I say. In my opinion, there is really no issue here.

You would have thought that (since you've already told us that you were) as a gay man you could at least spell homosexuality right.

There are a few reasons. One being that homosexuals are a minority. Even more so in the gaming consumer base. Consider this: Your average 12-year-old trash-talking moron on Xbox Live walks into a shop to pick up the most recent Call of Duty title. Upon putting it in his Xbox, he boots up the game and starts playing singleplayer. He discovers his character is gay. He will no longer take him seriously as a character in the game world.

Given that the gaming community is mostly heterosexual, it makes it harder to relate to a character if they are not of your sexual orientation. Not to mention that the press would go batshit over it.

I'd just like to say that as a gay person I wouldn't want companies to go out of their way to put homosexuality in their titles, if anything I think it's a good thing that it hasn't been heavily done already. Sexuality is a multi-layered, complex and sensitive issue to many people and I would personally be a lot more offended if game developers made a cheap spectacle out of it to stir up controversy and sell more copies of their games.

Most gay people are normal folks you couldn't pick out from anyone else who just want to be left to care about their loved ones in peace, the flamboyant pink wearing gay pride types are a really small minority and if video games started catering to them I'd be pretty embarrassed to be portrayed like that.

Whatever just ignore him, we can still have a nice conversation about the topic.

Honestly I don't really think it makes a big difference in most games it doesn't come into place at ALL.

In the games where it does it's often poorly executed, or made so obvious to be obnoxious and demeaning, I'd rather they just left the sexuality ambiguous and canned all the terribly done love interests to make room for interesting characters who's to say the player can't make up their own relationships between the characters.

(Poor spelling and lack of any sort of logic in the post of course it was obvious. I still wanted to have a conversation about it.)
