Alright, before we get started here, let me just say that I don't necessarily like what will be discussed, nor am I necessarily defending it.

Being human, and a part of the internet (a double whammy!) I must say that I've heard a lot of hate about things in the mainstream entertainment department.

For instance, to mention a couple of people who inspired this thread, Miley Cyrus, and Ke$ha.

Now, Ke$sha, has little vocal talent, I will give you that. And I don't generally like music from her genre, whatever it is, but I still find a lot of her music catchy and enjoyable to listen to. Same with Lady Gaga, although her vocal talent definitely surpasses that of Ke$ha.

Miley Cyrus, while I don't like her music, does not; contrary to popular belief have no talent. I think that if she were to sing in a different genre of music, that she would have a MUCH wider fanbase. Keeping in mind that I don't like her music, I still think she's pretty talented.

As for comedians one name comes quickly to mind: Dane Cook. I've heard a lot of hate for him, and I have to disagree with a lot of it. While most of his material is relatively unintelligent, that doesn't instantly make it unfunny. And I also find that his obnoxious attitude on stage only adds to the act.

Now I can understand if you really don't like something because you find it just bad, but it occurs to me that many people don't like a lot of the people mentioned here just for the sake of fitting in with the general non-followers of mainstream media.

I dunno, if you agree, then alright, there's more people than just me! If not, then at least tell why.

I used to begrudgingly think this about a lot of the modern punk rock-ish music my sister listens to, until last Saturday night when I had a sort of epiphany. She was driving me home after a night of gaming at the local hobby store and playing some generic crap on the radio. I listened really closely to the music and realized that in each of the songs that played, the drummer was wailing on the cymbals and the rim of the drums constantly, which is why the song sounded like noise to me. It drowned out the other instruments and was just tuneless and annoying. I think that's reasonable evidence that the music was shit, even though it may have had a catchy tune buried underneath everything.

Wait what? Let me just copy portions of your post here.

I don't necessarily like what will be discussed, nor am I necessarily defending it.
And then...

You are quite clearly "defending" these, regardless of your opinions towards them. Do not claim anything other than that.

With that out of the way, is this thread meant to discuss above singers/comedians or...

Now I can understand if you really don't like something because you find it just bad, but it occurs to me that many people don't like a lot of the people mentioned here just for the sake of fitting in with the general non-followers of mainstream media.
Hmm?
This isn't really easy to figure out, what with the being blatantly out to be a dick, I mean. I would enjoy to partake in the discussion, but I would also like to know where to start.

...

...

OT:
Some people conform to the standards of non-conformists for the sake of doing so. These people are idiots.

Other people simply(whoop whoop) do not like Miley Cyrus(Party in America is catchy, the rest is shit) or Ke$ha (Tik Tok is catchy but still shit - same goes for everything else), and these people would be me and others. These people have their own opinions.

Contrary to popular belief I am always right. So my opinions are always the right ones --- You know, in the same way that you can simply state that Miley Cyrus has, contrary to popular belief, talent. You know - that's just an empty, hollow, shallow, meaningless statement. You don't know jack squat about Miley Cyrus, or about singing(I'm guessing here), nor how much vocal-cleaning is done after recording, such as autotune.

I am free to state(and my opinions are always right) that Miley Cyrus is a hack. It's my opinion, you know, like you have your opinion... I just state it as being factual, you know, like you have done with your opinion.

I find your need to tell me that some conform to non-conformists to be rather aggravating, given that every other person in here will agree and the other every other will be annoyed at one more of these threads.

Yes, you have made a very interesting observation. Very interesting.

To me it does.
Same. His recent stuff has been rather tactless and sometimes downright "wtf...?" material. Ever since "A vicious circle" his stuff has gone majorly downhill even if I can still laugh at his older acts.

This is why I have such a problem with Dane Cook. He's always been loud and obnoxious. It works for him. But he used to also be intelligent, original and insightful. His first Comedy Central Presents had me in tears laughing and I looked forward to seeing more from him. Then he drained all the intelligence out of his act in favor of more yelling and obvious observations to appeal to the lowest common denominator.

Agreed. I loved his acts about the car accidents and the kool-aid man because they may have been weird and crazy but thought-provoking all the same. And now I just stare and shake my head with the "...are you serious?" face because all wit and intellect he had is gone.

Sometimes I don't like something because I've sampled it firsthand and think it sucks. Like Michael Bay. And the recent Star Wars movies.

She is a talented singer. She's weird as HELL, but she's got talent.

AND she writes her own stuff. Which is more than most pop artists can say these days.

I always try to give everything a fair shake, unless it is so obviously unmistakably bad that even my fair shake would be wasted for an obvious answer. Like Twilight movies... not even worth the time.

Point well taken. But here's the thing, ultimately ALL our decisions are based on the "just because" factor. We find ways to justify that initial instinct of hatred. So if I don't find a whole lot of vocal, or, creative talent in an singer, it most positively DOES make them bad.

If you tell me that just because I don't like it doesn't make it bad, I will call bullshit on that. If I don't like something, it most positively DOES make it bad.

How else will we have that distinction of "good" and "bad?"

OT: Kesha is a no-talent whore; Miley is a slut; and I don't know much about Dan Cook.

Justin Bieber: I don't hate him, I'd definitly be doing exactly what he's doing if I were in his place, but it annoys me how much of a figurehead he is. In all honesty I think he's very very talented, it's just too bad he looks and sounds 5 years younger than he is.

I don't mean to sound like a dick, I was just sorta like "wait, what?" when I read that.

I honestly just don't like most of the things that are considered "pop".

Lady Gaga proved to me that "Pop" music can sometimes be good.

You don't have to be intelligent to be funny. Hell take the 3 stooges for example. A lot of their comedic acts were constantly used over and over, and yet they were hilarious, at least in that time period. Most of the laughs came from moe saying a threatening line in a grumpy shaky voice, or Curly yelling "woo woo ooh oh" as he's being bonked on the head or poked in the eye(s). You don't have to be intelligent; you just have to have good timing and know what your doing. And plus... it's whatever your taste is.

Erm, I'm not sure exactly what this thread is supposed to accomplish. People have different opinions, it's the way of the world.

From what I can see, you appear to be defending the people listed, for the reason that a lot of the people who profess not to like them are in fact faking it. Have you considered that...some people just don't like the things you do? I mean, I don't like any of the people you listed. I just don't like them, they don't appeal to me. I mean, you say you do, but I think if you really did understand this, you wouldn't have made this thread.
I meant to have this thread make more sense, or maybe I'm just in denial of my own self and my values. In any case, it seems that I've offended and or annoyed several people here, so I'ma just gonna' leave this thread alone for now.

Seriously though, this thread made a lot more sense when I was just posting it.
