Childrens books nowadays, like picture books. I know this is going to sound random but I hate most childrens books that are put out nowadays. They're almost always just drenched in soppy symbolism and desperately forcing some shoddy message down the readers throat...DESPITE THE FACT THAT THE AVERAGE READER IS JUST LEARNING HOW TO SPELL BLUE!
When I have kids I'm going to get nice childrens books for them. The kind of ones which just tell a nice story and aren't the kind which the sydney morning herald will yack on about saying that they're so sophisticated even adults should read them. In fact I also hate the sydney morning herald. Wanky childrens books, wanky newspapers, wanky people. Maybe it's just Australia but it seems like nowadays people know more about wine than they do...general knowledge. And it's making us all look bad (In fact come to think of it I've seen an enormous influx in lifer, joyless, boring wankers on this website who are "above" making fun threads centred around having a good laugh, and would rather talk about the deep social structure of communism [IT DOESN'T WORK AND IT NEVER WILL! EVEN IN CHINA PEOPLE ARE IN THE STREETS CAMPAIGNING FOR DEMOCRACY!] rather than what you'd do in a zombie apocalypse).
Oh and that's another thing that's really getting on my nerves. People who absorb themselves in cultures which will never be their own to the point where it stops becoming acceptable and starts becoming arrogant like they're doing it just to abandon a culture they didn't try hard to at least accept and not deject. you know what I'm talking about, well brought up ten year olds who act like they're some kind of hardened ghetto kid. Western teens who live, breathe and talk Japanese culture BUT refuse to acknowledge their own cultural media because they're just using Japanese cartoons and comic books as a way of "Breaking free from the conforms of all around them". I mean it's fine to enjoy something a little different but refusing to at least accept anything else because it does not display the characteristics of what they enjoy is just sad and ignorant.
And that gets me to another point. Here on the escapist I feel almost trapped whenever I try to state my own opinion. I mean sure we go on that we're "Mature" and "Accepting of all views" but that just boils down to "we're accepting of all views except the ones that aren't radical enough to make us seem mature". From past experience whenever I try to make a statement IN A DISCUSSION ASKING FOR OPINIONS unless I scale it down or I say "With the exception of" or I just keep my trap shut then I get bombarded with about 500 trolls who apparently skimmed my post for keywords. So I've gotta go back and try to reason with them as to why I said what I said.
