I honestly believed XII (which I started, got 30 hours into and never played again) was just an isolated incident, and that XIII would captivate me from start to finish. Turns out, not so much.
More surprisingly, Batman: Arkham Asylum. It's an amazing game, there's no denying that, but when I sat down to play through the game again on the harder difficulty setting, I found myself swiftly losing interest. I'm not entirely sure why, but I think it's because I already know how the game plays out, and much of the appeal, for me, lies in not knowing what kind of insane traps the Joker's set up for you.

Balthier is such a suave and charismatic man, how could you not love him.
OT:I loved XII (other than the fact I was seriously under-leveled half the time) and XIII but both my XII saves (the original and the back-up) got corrupted and I was like 60 hours in (I like to do all the hunts for teh lulz before I go to the feywood) and I just didn't have the heart to do it all again. For XIII my original fat ps3 got the YLOD and Sony refused to fix it (Something about it not having the original parts in it, which was bullshit because I sat in line for 2 days to get one at launch) and when I got my new one I played right up until Oerba and said "Fuck this Imma go play Starcraft 2".

I've heard it said that Vaan is weak as a protagonist, and maybe that's true, but I think once you get the whole crew together, they really shine. It's kind of a callback to the ensemble-style casts of VI and possibly VII.
That said, I really couldn't get into the gameplay. I couldn't help but feel that Gambits do a lot of the legwork for you, and the license system was just tedious for me. Call me a purist, a washed-up old fogie, a killjoy, whatever you want, but for me, if it's not classic turn-based, it's not Final Fantasy. In the end, this is what killed FFXIII for me as well.

To be honest though I never heard of FF until my friendlet me borrow FFXII so I had no past experieces with FF games. With that said I backtracked into the series and was underwhelmed by the small scale all the other games were when compared to XII. This is why I had high hopes for XIII and all they did was bring linearity to whole new level. The gambits didn't help me mch because they hid all the useful ones and left you with the basic ones like telling your allies when to attack etc..
FFXIII would have been better with gambits because I can't tell you how many times I rage quit because I switched to a commando, medic ravager class and the medic NEVER HEALS ME. Then its game over and I just say **** this ****
