Just got a ps3! What have i missed out on?

Metal Gear Solid 4. Lots of people hated it (cutscenes are really excessive), but I really enjoyed it. I am a Metal Gear nut, but still. I liked the balance between combat and stealth, you usually have a choice of how to approach situations, unlike in previous games. Lots of people seemed to take this as 'OMG! I CAN JUST SHOOT EVERYONE! THIS ISN'T PROPER MGS!!'.

You've missed out on Resistance - Which has the most amazing story, but kind of died in the third game. VERY enjoyable. Multiplayer sucks in all of the games, but game 2 was pretty decent. All in all, the series is only good for it's mechanics and plot. But it's great. I love it.

Whatever you decide to play, don't be one of those people who starts a series like Resistance or Uncharted with the second or third game. There's some exceptions, but at least with Uncharted, Resistance, Ratchet & Clank and Infamous, you gotta play them all and in order.

But more to the point, play every Metal Gear Solid game, the enire Rachet and Clank series, and then play some Spyro. These games basically sum up my childhood.

If you want some meaty manly man games, go for Uncharted.

I also saw Fallout 3 earlier in the thread. If you haven't played that yet, please get the Game of the Year edition. It will surely knock your socks off.

Got the 80 gig one on and am pretty pumped. But I'm not sure what to get besides the obvious titles like uncharted, infamous, metal gear, demon souls, and heavy rain. Are there any other awesome exclusives? Console only games count because I don't have a 360. Any input would be very much appreciated!

Unfortunately the third party ports are some of the worst of all time.
Even for good games (like Fallout 3; or anything by Bethesda - who's PS3 ports constantly freeze up) I really can't recommend you getting the PS3 version of multiplats. Except Portal 2; that was surprisingly tight. And Borderlands as well; it's one of the few games you can mod (only a little) on the ps3.

Most of the exclusives are overrated but the one I thought was really underrated was Valkyria Chronicles. I've really never played anything else like it (a combo of strategy, shooter, & rpg) and it's just a joy to look at too.
The good thing for you is that at this point, Sony can't take away too many features from the ps3 at this point. All it does now is play games & movies.

Be sure to have a look at PSOne Classics on PSN as well if you've got a decent internet connection: FF V-IX, Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, Vagrant Story, FF Tactics, MGS 1 and 2 (even the HD Collection doesn't include MGS 1), Silent Hill etc.

Look into Playstation Plus. It's a good way to get free games and a bunch of different offers, like beta invites and full game trials. It's pretty awesome.

If you don't get Valkyria Chronicles, you should feel a great sense of shame, followed by the act of throwing your newly acquired PS3 into a wood chipper. No offense!

I'm glad Valkyria Chronicles has been said a bunch already because that game is a serious must play, and is sadly one of the most unheard of games this generation. So yeah, definitely look into getting that.

And despite what some others may say about the Uncharted series on this site I think they're very well made games and I've sunk more hours into Uncharted 2 then any other PS3 game so far.

And assuming you don't already have a 360, then I'd say get all the big games that have done well lately, like both Batman games, Skyrim, CoD, etc.

I don't have a PS myself but if it has any Tales of -insert name_ games then those are worth getting (excists at least for Wii and Xbox)
