Apparently, my friend's first accident involved the freeway and his car, I think, "flipping" a full 360 before stopping due to another car cutting him off because said other car was in the wrong lane and wanted to get to their "correct" lane as quick as possible... (or something like that...)

Other than that, I, personally, haven't been in any accidents yet... Though, I almost got side-swiped by another car because they were going above the speed limit... That shit kinda startled me, considering it was when I first driving without someone else in the passenger's seat...

Half asleep, driving into a spacey car park. I dunno why but I picked the spot right next to a parked car when I could have picked any other spots.
Tap the other car with my car. Step on the pedal by accident. The other car almost flipped over. That was when I backed off.

Never driven a car, nor plan to, but I have been in a car accident.

It was back in my home country, and my brother was at the wheel, (can't remember absolutely everything since I was like 3 or 4 years old at the time) arguing with my mother. We were driving back home after visiting my Godfather, and it was in the afternoon. I remember seeing a car in the distance, and I think it had something to do with the fact that my brother was trying to overtake it or something. Now, the place in which we were driving along was a road on top of a steep, tall mound, with two sides of a forest on either side. So they were arguing, and then, next thing I know, my brother swerved hard into the right and we were going down the side of the hill, fast.

After that, I don't remember anything, except that afterwards, I woke up on this flat rock that was at the side of the mound, (it stuck out horizontally to the hill) and my mouth was full of blood. It turned out the flesh inside it was cut rather badly, and it was bleeding. I was crying a lot, naturally, and I saw the car turned over at the bottom of the hill, with my mum trying to get out of it, with my brother already at the top of the hill, having called an ambulance to get us(this is the bit where my memory is a bit hazy, as when I ask my mum about the accident, she said that her and my brother got out at the same time, but I remember it differently).

Then, we all got into the ambulance, I either blacked out or went to sleep, but when I woke up, I was in the hospital. I stayed there for a couple of weeks to treat the wounds inside my mouth, my mum stayed there to attend to her neck(it got injured in a way that she had to wear a brace for a long time, and she couldn't turn her head left without immense pain), and I think my brother was staying at another room, or hospital(I don't fully remember) but he got rid of his injuries way quicker than either of us because he was young and a lot more physically fit. He also had a neck injury, and I think a back injury.

It was a nasty accident to say the least.

safest" drivers are bad drivers. Nervous, paranoid, way under the speed limit, ignoring big gaps in traffic when trying to make a turn in favor of titanic ones - these drivers would be fine if they were driving in a vacuum and not making an absolute mess of traffic.
A number of the most "reckless" drivers are among the best. Extremely skilled, super confident, fudging limits because they understand the ebb and flow of traffic, the ability to judge gaps in traffic and match speeds perfectly to slip through what appears to be gridlock - when these drivers get in wrecks, it tends to be because of some unforeseeable variable going wrong.
this is actually pretty true which is also why I hate speed limits. A good driver knows the limits of both themselves and their vehicle. Restricting people to 70mph on a motorway is stupid when speeds upwards of 100mph are perfectly within the limits of a decent car/driver

I think the police spend far too much money trying to "trap" people speeding rather than catching burgulars, rapists and drug dealers.

The reason most accidents/jams happen is because people dont leave a gap behind the car in front. If you are going to drive fast you should know that you leave a bigger gap because it takes longer to brake. You should leave a decent gap so that people from other lanes can pull across to their exit. The amount of times ive tried to go from the fast lane to the slow lane (given myself plenty of time) only to literally squeeze into the tiniest gap at the last minute because the traffic is so bunched. It makes me wonder how big the pile up would be if one of those cars where to brake suddenly

I guess first car accident can mean one where you aren't necessarily driving yourself? OK? OK.

My first was when I was merely a small child.

A car came into the side of our Renault Espace (sponsor!, hoping for a free one) and caused it to topple over onto its top. So we ended up upside-down, still strapped in of course.

I don't remember much, as I was so young, but we did get taken to hospital and I had a neck brace, merely a precautionary measure for myself and my mum. We were all fine though, so that was lucky.

The car was less so good, as it had to be written off and we got the insurance pay-out, I'm told, to a very reasonable number. So my dad wasn't really all that annoyed in the end.

The only thing I can really remember is washing my hands of blood in the house of a nearby stranger to the accident, who kindly let us in, and the image of my dad opening up the boot of the car to get me out (seemingly upside-down, as he was standing outside the car and I was still strapped in upside-down).

I later found out though that this image isn't true. Or at least, 'can't' be true. As the Espace had forward facing chairs in the back. It was a different car we had later on that had chairs in the back facing outwards. So if my dad had opened the boot of the car, he would've been behind me, not in front of me.

Therefore the image has been formulated in my mind for some reason. Perhaps there is some truth to it, but it can't be wholly true. That's the interesting and puzzling thing I take away from that accident. Maybe it is one of those things where your mind protects you from the truth or its just an incomplete memory that has tried to be pieced together, I don't know!

Relatively open crossroads in a 30mph zone. Truck coming the other way obscuring vision, guy on the right turn of the crossroads didnt see me. I hit the front left corner of his Citroen Saxo at just under 30. a foot further back and I would have done serious damage to his girlfriend.

Both cars (Skoda Felicia) were a write-off, fuel over the road, Everything in front of the doors on his car either broken, buckled or 4" away from where it used to be.

My car still drove. And when she was picked up from home the next day to be appraised, the little thing had the dignity to drive up to the road to be hauled off.

EDIT: My mum sufferd the same kind of crash about a year previous on that same crossroads. It wasn;t her fault either, and there was an off-duty copper 3 cars behind her that saw the whole lot.
