I am a BIG Fallout 3 fan and love exploring every building, cave, drain sewer and recently on the very north edge parts of D.C. i went inside a car facility and found it to be infested with giant ants.

Killed everything inside, found ammo and caps, then i went deeper inside to the factory department. Killed more ants and found a Giant Ant Queen. I was stunned because i have never seen this creature before and i had thought i killed every creature in the Fallout 3 universe. (and yes I do have all of the DLC and killed every animal in Point Lookout, The Pitt, and the new creatures that came in Broken Steel)

So people of the Escapist, have you ever found a certain creature in Fallout 3 that you were surprised to find?

Only when I first starting. After a while, I knew about everything, so nothing came as a shock any more.

hmm not so much of the creature, it was the name. I had noticed a small hole in the ground, entered it to find two types of ants fighting. One was tagged friendly ants and the other bigger ants were called "Invading ants" and you are supposed to defend the friendly small ants.

I had found it after 175 hours of game play so I was surprised.

I did know about everything though. There's a difference. 150+ hours can do that to you.

INB4 Surprise Deathclaw.

For me it would have to be stumbling into the fire ant town (Name escapes me), I was like "Holy Fuck! Giant ants!" Went up to shotgun them and they fucking breath fire.

Was totally not expecting that at level 4.

You mean you hadn't done the Grayditch Quest "those!"? I always got that quest really early, I once had the annoying little git Bryan Wilks come running up to me when I was in Springvale.

Yeah, the queen was a part of a quest. It had pretty neat rewards too.

Sadly, that's not a random encounter of sorts. It's from an actual quest. "Those!"

I haven't been surprised by anything though. Maybe the personalities of the residents of Andale. Now that was a fun stop-off.

The Grayditch quest seems to be a theme here. I was heading back from doing another one of those moronic wasteland survival guide quests and stumbled over this little boy in the wasteland who wanted me to fight ants.

'Fair dos' thinks I, and follows him into town armed with a sawn off shotgun.

One and a half minutes later I am surrounded by fire breathing demons from hell

It took me several tries.

That and the first time I saw a Deathclaw. I knew they existed though, so it doesn't really count, but they were a shock the first time I saw them (one to be precise, attacked me from behind, so I turned round to see a ten foot tall evil fucker clawing at me and destroying my health). I'm level 19 now and I still avoid them like the plague. (Yes, I'm still on my first playthrough.)

When I first ran into a albino rad scorpion, I shite my self for lack of a better word. I just fired the fat man at it and nearly cried when it hardly damaged it -_-. But the fire ant queen I expected :p

Those ants in Grayditch scared me shitless. I was thinking, "I'm out of ammo, so I'll punch these ants. Then they breathed fire on me. Then I was thinking, "Fuck fuck, I'm on fire."

You play every quest and you have NEVER seen A Giant Ant Queen. That is interesting considering that is an earlier quest. (Btw the freaking Ant Queen freaked me out too when I first saw it) Grayditch was one of the first quests I did outside of Megaton/Vault 101. And if you had follow through the quest you get an extra perk as well (Ant Strength or Ant Sight).

That kid was running around crazy while Raiders were shooting at him and an Enclave Eyebot. It was funny b/c he just runs up and starts talking to me. (this was when i was doing the quest for the Wastelander's Survival Guide on where to get food and such.) At the Super Market.

After about 5 hours I'd seen everything Fallout 3 had to offer in terms of enemies except maybe Glowing Ones, they don't show up until pretty late. And maybe Super Mutant Masters.

Still a fantastic game though. I truly belive it was the best offering of the last 5 years. I'd say 10 but there's Baldur's Gate 2 ready to crush Fallout 3 :p

Early on I had fought most of the creatures of the game already and thought I knew what I was doing by then. Then I went to Old Olney and was suddenly attacked by a deathclaw. My shock almost got me killed.

Having to go into the Deathclaw Sanctuary is always a work on my nerve's because I'm constantly clicking on vats mode in case one of those horrors comes around the corner. Made the Yao-Guai Caves look like a picnic.

Most surprising moment would have to be when I downloaded the Broken Steel DLC but i still wasnt done with the main quest. I was going through the Tunnels of Little Lamplight leading to vault 87 to get the Geck and killing Supermutants left and right when suddenly a freaking Overlord comes out around the corner.

My first impression was "You're not suppose to be here!" then I was fighting to save myself and Paladin Cross (my companion at the time). That first time I had to pull out old Vengeance to gun it down.

Waste of ammo though, these days I always bring out a melee weapon to cut those uglies up. I thought it would be fun with an Auto Axe but it takes forever, personally I prefer to use Jack or the Shiskebab.

Even worse than that were the Feral Ghoul Reavers.... it was a nightmare. I emptied everything I had into that moving carcass but it kept coming! I later learned this was because of a glitch when it starts throwing it's arms everywhere but that still doesnt make me any less scared of those things!

Note: Also, use melee weapons on those.

I said vanilla fallout, so no to the aliens. And I think masters should up after overlords. Mad brahim, can't say I saw those but I'm sure it was just Brahim labelled as mad.

EDIT: Actually I didn't say vanilla... My bad.

Sadly I sort of wiki checked that quest, so the surprise was ruined for me. I curse myself for looking at wikis.
