INB4 Surprise Deathclaw.

For me it would have to be stumbling into the fire ant town (Name escapes me), I was like "Holy Fuck! Giant ants!" Went up to shotgun them and they fucking breath fire.

Was totally not expecting that at level 4.
Yeah, when I first started playing Fallout 3, I got stuck there and didn't know what the fuck to do.

I am quite better now at playing then I was before, don't worry.

Not really a creature, but I started a new play through and went to the Super Duper Mart for Moira. I went into a building near it then came out, and suddenly, I saw an explosion in the sky and a trail of smoke leading to the floor.

Cause I'm a Fallout 3 geek, I knew it was the awesome (and ultra rare) Firelance, and I thought that'd be brilliant to have at level 3. I went down to get it...

And then one of those goddamn raiders lasered me on fire with MY gun. BASTARD.

"Trees! So many trees! To the north! But be careful... the trees... are deadly, and the trees too will be consumed in the belly of the great fat worm!

In fourteen hundred and ninety-two, your mother and my mother were hanging up clothes around the mulberry bush...

Beware, worm! I shall destroy you! With the fire of this small sun before me! BEWARE WORM! Not one step further!"

4 playthroughs and I still haven't gotten it!

Can you remember exactly which way you went when it happened? I mean the precise path you took?
early on get your luck up as high as possible then travel i think up north a bit till about the middle of the map then walk east, you have a higher chance of it happening

Plays game, this is cool. Raiders - no prob, ghouls - no prob. Deathclaw/Yao Gaui/Mirelurk/ etc. - HOLY SHIT, but still nothing bad.

Sees Albino Radscorpion - runs away screaming. 'Mommy! The big scorpion wants to eat me! OH MY GOD ITS FUCKING TAIL IS GONNA TAKE MY SOUL!'

Yeah that was the first town I ran into, I figured I could handle it but no, I ran out of ammo, stim packs so I had to restart my game.

I think that it's random. There are a list of locations in the map where they can happen but basically, you have to look up every time you hear and explosion, and look for a trail of smoke. It only happens once per playthrough though...

Have a look here for info;

My first encounter with a Feral Ghoul Reaver was fun.

'Oh, a ghoul, huh? Piss easy!' Fire three headshots in VATS using Lincolns Repeater* AH, WHAT THE FU-! *Proceeds to die horribly as Reaver rips my face off*' I now avoid the damn things like a plague. Although I had to fight them in Broken Steel. ¬_¬ That was a true test of how fast a man can run with 145 pounds of crap on him.

But as for surprising creatures, apart from a Death-Claw being outside of a shop in the middle of nowhere as I left it, no I have not been surprised by anything. Except the Reavers.

It wasn't new to me, but on one of my characters seeing an Enclave Soldier dressed in Tesla Armor when I was Level 15 and hadn't even found my dad was quite terrifying. I ended up sneaking up to him and trying to reverse pickpocket a Frag Mine but instead he noticed me, so I dropped a Bottlecap Mine and ran. Unfortunately, it didn't kill him, so I pulled out my Combat Shotgun and shot him from really far away. He dropped dead and I looted his body. Got good money for his armor too.

EDIT: Remembered another one. I was sneaking around in Andale and stole the key to the shed. I already knew what was in there, but I didn't know what would happen if they didn't know I went in there. After I came out the 4 adults were standing there with their weapons drawn and one of them said asked me if I found what I was looking for (or something like that). I had the Cannibal perk so I made a joke about how I would have grabbed a snack, but that would have been rude. They all put their weapons away and just walked off. More of a surprise than anything.
