Okay so this comes with a story.
The other day I went to see James Camerons Avatar I paid my 10$ and started watching it was good times until about 3/4 of the way through the movie it cuts out screen goes blank after a 15 minute wait the manager comes in and informs us the audience that the film snapped in two and we would not get to see the end of the movie to which I replied " Son of B!@#%" because if you have seen Avatar you will know that it is pretty good. Any way normally I don't approve of piracy except for old games I already owned but cannot find like the original Unreal, But when this happened I seriously considered pirating Avatar I mean come on I paid to see it and know if I want to see the end I would have to sit through the 2 hours I already saw. So my question is do you think I would be moral justified if I pirated Avatar yes or no. Also I would like to hear any stories similar to mind which made you think you should pirate something.

Edit: I'm getting alot questions concerning whether or not I was reimbursed for the movie and to clear this up let me just say it is immaterial. My problem is that I paid to see Avatar and now if I want to see the ending I have to A: sit through to hours of movie I already saw. B:Wait for it to come out on disk. or C: Pirate it.

The film snapped in 2.

... I hope by "film" you mean a DVD or Blu-ray disc and NOT 16-mm or VHS film. Because if it isn't on digital media then your cinema is officially in the stone age.

Back on topic - Piracy is indisputably justifiable if what you're pirating is something that's not available in retail or anywhere anymore.

Never trust the internet.

Ever.

That's like a law or something.

Ah but with the advent of the Internet, everything is technically available through online retail.

"In Working Condition" is another issue.

Piracy is only justifiable if you cannot currently buy that which you are pirateing, if it becomes available and you have a pirated copy You must buy it

That has alwas been my policy. Plus, if it takes large amounts of effort (or money) to get it, it is also "piratable". Actually, the real motto for me would be: "If your not in the targeted consumers pool, than you can pirate it without regrets."

I mean, back in the past I had a lot of trouble buying imported games because no manufecturer would bring them here (Brazil). Happened to Daggerfall and the first Magic: The Gathering PC games. Not only they would cost DOUBLE their price on USA (taxes), but also it required me to wait weeks, receive the package in the post oficce... Nowadays, with the popularization of internet shopping and online purchasable games, like in Steam,, it's so easy tht argument is no longer *that* valid.

And i thought i'd be in before the xkcd. Next time.
OT: You have been on the internet and you have never pirated anything??
Of course it isn't legal same as it isn't legal for you to loan your games to other people.
Should you do it? well thats up to you, do you want to see the last part of it and do you want to pay full price for that last part? Answer those 2 and you've got the solution.

Piracy is justifiable if you have no other avenue to get it.

Personally, I don't bother justifying it. I don't pirate often, however,if I want to pirate it, I'll get it, simple as that. I do buy CDs, but only the ones I really really want. I usually rent movies or go to the theatre, but if I don't,I have a friend who pirates like crazy, or I can find a site that hosts pirated movies. There's also Livestream channels advertised on the subforums of 4chan every now and then.

Granted I haven't had a personal music player in forever, so I stick to stuff like Pandora. However, if I got a music player again, I'd probably use a youtube-mp3 converter, torrents/Pirate Bay, or something like Frostwire.

I suppose technically you can't justify it.
Though I feel absolutely no guilt about pirating form an artist who already has millions in record sales and nothing to do with it but buy a bigger house.

It's still illegal. So no.

And the full stop needs some love!
The "law" is an artificial construct devoid of any direct moral basis. The law exists to allow society as a whole to a-morally, or sometimes immorally, deal with people who don't have a moral sense about them.

In other words. There are circumstances where actions moral in nature can exist outside of the law. Pirating a copy of something you bought or went to see, but didn't get to because of someone elses fuck up is far enough in the white end of the spectrum for me.
