So ive been playing a lot of black ops lately, and ive been getting really annoyed because im starting to get really bad K/Ds on the games i play, and from watching the kilcams, most of the deaths, are from campers. If i had to guess, id say that they were camping so that they could keep up a positive K/D, which has the unfortunate effect of lowering mine.

So it lead me to think, how much more fun would a game be if it just stopped worrying about Kill/Death ratios and all that crap? It may stop campers which are freaking annoying, but it will also stop people from getting so annoyed (like i was getting). I realized that i actually have started to care about my K/D alot, and its taking away a lot of my enjoyment when i see the end game leaderboards and me having 8 kills to 15 deaths. instead of this i want to be able to just play the game and not give a shit about the numbers at the end.

So all in all i think that games would be somewhat more enjoyable without this whole K/D business

So whats your opinion on the matter?

Maybe you should stop worrying about your KDR? 'Cause that seems to be most of your problem, the fact that you're letting it bother you. Don't pay attention to it, have more fun!

Yeah i know but its kinda hard because i keep seeing all these numbers reminding me :p (actually that kinda sounds like the campaign lol

Its not just for me though, i feel like this obsession with having a good K/D is kinda ruining the experience for a lot of people

Its a display of how good you are compared to others. You would like it if you were better than everyone else [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/BraggingRightsReward]. And you wouldnt like it if youre lower than most, because its obvious that you arent as good as you think you are.

Once in Killzone 3 i somehow racked up 3 times as many kills as the nearest ally could. That was a good day.

Eh, I usually just dick around in multiplayer games anymore so it doesn't bother me much.

How ever, a death tracking stat in a single player game annoys the hell out of me.

good thing you bring that up, i do feel good when i get a good K/D but it doesnt really make up for the times i get annoyed with a bad one, im just saying that gamers (me included) are beginning to become too obsessed with number ratios rather than the actual game

Edit: and dont you dare try link me to tvtropes, i spent far too long on that site

Eh, if it's displayed to all the players then I'm a bit more cautious, but if it's like TF2 where people only see your points I really don't care and go crazy.

I just ignore K/Ds they shouldn't impact the game and I don't need a number to express myself, now if you'll excuse me I must go get some achievements.

I am bound by the judgment of my friend's to have a good KDR in every shooting game I play.

IT IS MY CURSE.

I have the same problem. I'd like to throw myself on the objective, but as soon as I watch the K/D slip I get a little angry. Logically, A high win/loss ratio is much better than a high K/D. Usually when I play solo, I focus on kill whoring, but when I'm in a group I try to focus on the objective.

I do not care about my k/d ratio because it always sucks. I also wish the stat was not tracked so that it would encourage less camping, which I also suck at. I find camping to be the opposite of fun.

That is why I stopped playing black ops online and stick with halo, where camping is far less common, and much easier to fight against.

WRONG.

Its a display on how much you kill whore per game and ignore the objective.
Let me give you an example.

In Team Deathmatch an average to good player will get 20-30kills and under 15 deaths.
Now in Demolition or Domination, by kill whoring and avoiding deaths you are prolonging the game time, time that you could of used to win the game. Most clans and teams will not look at your KDR to select you(Good teams anyways), they will look at you W/L Ratio. KDR does not show skill, it shows kills.

Next time you see somebody who has a high KDR, look at there W/L next time.

To OP. Don't worry about KDR. I made the same mistake when I used to play Call Of Duty, trying to keep a 3.0 Ratio is hard, and going negative is hurting it. Just play for fun and play to win. Let the others worry about it. You can win that game for your team, because with the skills that you have to have gotten that KDR then you would have no problem planting a bomb righT?

K/D annoys me because people use it as a bragging right, seriously, if you have a game where you face people of equal or greater skill your K/D could be 1/24 where as a one against lower skilled people could be 19/0 so it just shows your luck in matchmaking.

People who are genuinely good at the game like to see that information, but not everyone needs to worry about it. Other games actually try to stay positive by showing you all the things you DID do well, and rewarding you for kill assists, headshots, etc. Objective-oriented games like Team Fortress 2 grant you points for all sorts of stuff, and it's not uncommon for me to lead the scoreboard in a game of Battlefield, despite 3 or 4 lower players having far more kills than me.
