I really don't see what the problem is. Are elephants in some danger of extinction? I find this event impressive.
I also find this very impressive. It's tough to even shoot an elephant with a bow so that it would die after just one shot, I always thought 2, maybe 3 shots to the head is the minimum to take one down...

How are we superior to them? How often do you see an elephant wound a human maliciously and leave them to die? There is nothing impressive about what she did, just another example of the scum our society produces.
By that logic, you should also risk your life and the well-being of your only child by jumping into a river in an attempt to save your pet dogs. As they must be of equal importance.
No, by that logic one would simply not stab my dog and leave it to die slowly, by your logic however I would be within my rights to walk around shooting peoples pets, feeling fully justified because I am a 'superior human' and consequently meant to act like the animals you so scornfully claim superiority to?

I understand what you're getting at, and i see how hunting made us civilized, but i do not think by far and will not ever think, hunting for SPORT is civilized. (Sport meaning, you like hunting it, just not eating it.)
That post was aimed at people who think all kinds of hunting are harsh. I still don't think hunting for sport is too cruel, but I respect your opinion.

Fat fucking whore... anyone got a bow they could lend me so I can avenge the elephant?
Aha, it seems you beat me to it.
Because murder is ssssssooooooooo much more civilized then hunting.

It's like people see her as some horrible entity of evil rather then a person just because she hunted an elephant.
I hope your not insinuating that hunting is civilised.

Hunters that hunt for sport are cruel, evil bastards. They're no better than murders.

Thank you. <3
I must disagree, hunting is what made us be able to become civilized. Otherwise you would be hiding in a tree, trying to find wild berries, or eating leftover meats that a carnivore animal left behind. That is, if we didn't become extinct which would most likely happen if we didn't hunt.
The human race is not civilised. We are far from it. We're no better than the no-brained hunters we once were all those years ago.

The sad thing is the fact that will be a highlight in her life. She shot Dumbo, at night, with a bow, and waited twelve hours for him to die by bleeding out before standing triumphant over him. Fail, tragic fail.

What a sick and disgusting women... There was no reason for such a creature to die... Why the hell would you kill a goddamn elephant.... And before someone gets on my case, and elephant that is probably endangered for that matter is different in my mind than some run of the mill deer
While I find it sick, I should probably point this out:
Tour operators and hunters argue that elephants get out of control when not properly culled and can destroy crops and small buildings in rural villages.
We don't own the world.

She did not hunt an elephant, she killed one. A hunt was meant to bring food , honor and a trophy home to inspire the next hunt. She did not eat the elephant, she did not show proper respect to the elephant by dispatching it quickly and with enough skill to mitigate it's suffering, and she only brought home a photo that will inspire no one else but Dick Cheney.

I know, I said it was sick. But there was a reason, however weak it was.

The thing that's really sickening is that she did this over a dare. Freakin' retard.

How about you complain to her instead of listing your hippie animal curelty shit here? This place is to discuss the event, not tell people to grab bows and kill her or talk about how she did something horrible. Say things like:

Hmm, I find hunting for a sport to be rather cruel. In my opinion, she should've donated the elephant to a poor village, I hear elephant tusks are worth quite a sum of money.

Instead of:

OMG You're a cruel bastard how could you leave it for the night to make sure it doesn't kill you when you get close? We are going to go grab some bows, murder you, and then plead to the government that we did it to avenge a killed elephant which was under no kind of protection and was completely legal to kill!

Really, grow up and wipe that illusion of a world full lies in front of you. Hunting is legal and you can't do anything about it. There are many hippie groups with the same purpose yet they all failed.

Personally, I have nothing against hunting, but I find it wrong to let the animal bleed out for hours. She should have had the decency to follow her shot up with another or two to finish it off quickly. A protracted death is not needed.

Though as an archer myself, I find that shot to be quite amazing.

I'm not saying that animals don't have rights, or that they should be mistreated, but declairing someone "scum" for legally hunting a single elephant.

An arrow doesn't kill instantly. Even when hunting dear you have to wait hours before approaching an animal you've hit because of the chance that it might not be dead, and could jump back up once you get too close. It doesn't take a genius to figure out why you would wait overnight before getting near such an animal.

P.S. Unless you'r above eating beef or chicken, don't complain about one elephant being some lady with a bow and arrow (at least it had a chance).

Here's something I don't get. Everyone is complaining about her killing the elephant in a cruel fashion, so they say they want to kill her in the same way.

Wouldn't that make you just as bah as her?

I'm no longer surprised at anything human beings do anymore. I suppose there was just this point where I became completely jaded, and it's probably thanks to my access to the Internet and the stream of world knowledge within it, but I can't feel anything anymore one way or another when things like this happen. Only faint echoes of disgust and shame.

So why not hunt more efficiently? There is no honour or skill in shooting a docile animal from a distance, I could throw a brick at a cow with the same skill levels.

So, You'r suggesting that she should have used an extreame high-powered rifle, shooting it accuratly from hundreds of yards away, giving it no chance what-so-ever to escape (killing it "efficiently")?

Elephants may look like gentile-giants, but are very aggressive, and extreamely dangerous if you get to close (up to 200 people per year die from elephant attaks in india alone). If her shot was anything short of perfect it could have easily been her last.
