WHO CARES?!?!

Seriously, why should I care about this? This is no way affects anyone on this board, so why is anyone here complaining about this? I honestly feel like you guys complain about stuff just for the sake of complaining sometimes.
Pots and kettles, methinks? There's absolutely no need for you to look at this thread, nobody has forced you to read it, and thus there is no need for you to post that comment. You're complaining for no reason that other people complain for no reason, so really you're just going full circle in a fairly hypocritical manner.
No, I'm honestly trying to figure out why so many of you make a big deal out of this. I figure there must be some reason there's such an uproar over this.
Oh, well, that one's easy. Basically, the OP was interested to see what other people's opinions of the topic were. The people posting are basically doing what the OP wanted, which is posting their opinions on a subject that they are interested in. People who aren't interested in the topic are abstaining from posting and leaving the thread (well, with the odd exception...). In short, exactly the same thing as what happens on almost every other Off-Topic Discussion thread.

It really is that simple.
Great job not even realizing what I was asking and instead being incredibly smug. Shame that only works when you actually read the question, but I guess you were to concerned with trying to bolster your own ego to do that.

You'll notice that I wasn't asking why people were discussing this. I wanted to know why people were so outraged by something that probably doesn't affect them. A perfectly reasonable question. People here seem to take offense to thins that don't concern them in the slightest, giving me the impression that they complain just for the sake of complaining. I'm trying to see what makes them care about this beyond that.

But go ahead, continue acting like a jackass if it makes you feel superior or something. I really don't get what your problem is.

EDIT: Looking back at this, it is unnecessarily rude much like your post, so I apologize for that. However, I still stand by what I said. People here seem to be complaining for the sake of complaining, and I see nothing wrong with calling them out on that. I haven't heard one legitimate reason for anyone to care about this in the slightest.
I wasn't being smug or egotistical, nor am I being a jackass, though rereading my post I can see how I may have come across that way, so I also apologise for that. And I accept your apology. That being said, I was simply trying to answer what I thought your question was, though again it does seem to be a bit of a bad response on my part. As to the question you were actually asking, I can't really help you there. Human psychology, perhaps? I guess it's like asking why people care about stuff in the news about politicians passing laws that won't affect them, yet still get up in arms about it (like, I'm not gay but I'd always oppose anti-gay legislation, as an example). I suppose that's sort of similar, but as I say, I can't really help you there :/.

Please. There was more cleavage on Divatox back when I watched Power Rangers. Then again, I was watching Hercules and Xena as a little tyke too. I didn't even notice the sex in those shows. I was watching because I thought swords were cool.

I really don't want to be raising kids in this ridiculously sheltered world I can see society becoming. If it's still this bad in ten years time, it won't even be worth raising kids at all, because apparently parents are too stupid to make decisions and society and television has to nanny children for us. Then again, it's not surprising; a lot of TV talks down to adults like they're babies so it makes sense that they would think children are invalids too.

It doesn't offend me, nor should it anyone else. It is a completely ridiculous situation. I'm not a fan of Katy Perry's music but have nothing against her as a person. You have the right to your opinions but I feel that those that oppose the way she dressed are going way overboard. I think that it was nice that she would take the time to be on SS and do something for children, it gives me a greater respect for her(not her music).

We complain too much. If we were to really critique Sesame Street, we'd have a homeless guy (Oscar), an undead monster (the Count), a pair of guys in a suppressed homosexual relationship (Bert and Ernie), and a blue dude with substance abuse issues (Cookie Monster). Objectively speaking, Sesame street is full of things that the media would usually crucify, but because of it's audience, all those concepts sail straight over their heads. It's like Bugs Bunny. There are a mountain of jokes in BB that are clearly adult-focused, but the kids never notice because they don't know a thing about it, so they don't look for it.

And besides, it's not like boobs are a new concept for the target audience. They just finished nursing on a pair of them.

The dress is about the same as in any Disney cartoon. What I'm more bothered by is why they're having celebrities appear on kids shows. Not that they're all depraved but that it seems like a maneuver to indoctrinate children into celebrity culture and breed better consumers. In my memory if a guest appeared on a children's television show it was to educate you about their profession or way of life. Having celebrities on because they are celebrities leads too well (along with many other factors) into the pattern of people being famous for being famous out of proportion and beyond the scope of their achievements or skill, and then being idolized for such fame. It's easier to control the consumption of a culture based around celebrity worship. I'm not trying to be apocalyptic about this or say that the producers of Sesame Street attended some secret Illuminati meeting to carry out step 8126 of the plan to take over the world; it's just a pattern people need to be aware of. I could even be wrong in this instance and the purpose of having Perry on the show was meant for genuine addition to its educational value.

I have little respect for Katy Perry.

Inside she's just an insecure girl with large breasts.
Without them i doubt shed have any confidence at all.

*cough* Habba-Habba!

I got to 30ish seconds before that god awful fucking news guys' voice put me off. I think i got the gist of it, though i was expecting her to have worn black latex or something, or turned up drunk from what the title gave away.

Monster and making Oscar live in a recycling bin, they've also removed a genuinely (but not that extreme) bad influence from the show. Jeez.
Wait what?! Please tell me your joking!

IT'S NOT EVEN LOW-CUT!

Look closely! It has a skin-tone part above where the dress ends.

Seriously people, how fucking afraid of sex are you that you're going to whine about a low-cut dress that's not even low-cut?
Actually, I think it's more of mesh thing or like panty-hose material, but w/e.

I'll be succinct. Outfit a big deal? No. Still should have worn something (edit: a little) less revealing? Yes.
Yeah, it's a mesh-pantyhose-material-thing. That's what I meant to say; I just didn't know the right terminology.

Bottom line, that's not a low-cut dress. A low cut dress exposes actual skin. This dress doesn't expose anything!

It looks like it's a real low-cut dress because the dress material is skin-tone. Maybe that's enough to be a problem for some people, but not me. For me, there is a very clear line between risqué and not a problem, and that line is when I see actual skin, Goddammit!

Last time I checked, toddlers were brought to the beach all the time, where you'll see plenty of men in shorts and women in bikinis.

American society has always been like this, it's not really surprising.

The more prevalent problem in modern times is the lack of personal responsibility. Whether it be parents or their kids, everything is always deferred to someone else.

you have to keep in mind that middle america, you know the stupid ones that do everything and believe everything they're told, are the ones that complained and had this episode pulled. I mean her dress does seem a bit revealing, but if you look closer at her cleavage (I certainly was) you'll find that their is a flesh colored under-garment thing underneath her dress so really she wasn't baring any cleavage at all.

So the video is old news by now, but what I wanted to talk about is the incident as a whole.

Do we really live in such a boring depraved society, that we have to complain about EVERYTHING? The program is aimed at pre-schoolers, they aren't going to think "oooh boobies" they're going to think "oh I like this cute girl singing with elmo" It just baffles me how easily people get "offended" by everything and anything.

So what do you guys think? do we complain too much in todays society, or are these complains really justified?

No, cookies are now a "sometimes food" or something along those lines.
