Well Ms. Kelis, I apologise on behalf of my nation for the actions of one man whom we would shun in our normal society, and would like to say that I hope this opinion of Britain you've developed doesn't last. However, labelling the entire country 'decades behind the world in equality' is highly inflammatory, and personally, if that is to be your attitude then I highly doubt you will be missed by our populace of people from a multitude of ethnic and religious backgrounds.

I live in North Wales. The only "racism" here is angry welsh people vocally insulting the English.
Why is racism in inverted commas? It is racism.
That's Nationalism and has been apart of the UK culture forever. We joke and jibe about each other viciously and unrelenting even to where it sounds utterly uncalled for/cruel, doesn't mean we all won't go get drunk round the pub later and cheer on the football.

And yes. People are racist, everyone has those tendencies. Stop the presses, seriously. Since she's addressing a nation I will as well, America sit down, and have a drink and start accepting facts of life instead of protesting EVERYTHING.

When VIOLENCE comes into play, then action needs to be taken.

Best laugh I ever had was some seppo raging against how racist Australia was because of a picture he saw of a bunch of mediterranean looking blokes standing around a 'Wog Pride' sign and having no idea of the word in Aussie context nor any interest in learning the context. Of course, this was the same seppo who went nonlinear when I said I liked 'a bit of Coon on my sandwich'.
Christ, telling them not to use the word 'coon in the UK is a mare. And then they'll go on about spazzing out but shout at you for brainstorming while eating Cheese Poofs.

I'm absolutely loving this.

Every time an American is in the news for anything, everyone goes;
"Well herp derp. That's America for ya! Fat, stupid, gun loving, sister fucking rednecks!"

But when an American says something like "UK is racist" it's;
"Well how dare you?! You can't judge an entire nation based on one asshole!"

Fucking love it.

Yeah, the things it though, the Scots picking on Scots thing is actually very serious.

In Scotland you have "The Catholics" and "The Protestants" and they hate each others guts. To the point where in Glasgow they made seperate schools for each group and let them out of school at different time (to stop the kids beating each other up.)

Look up domestic violence in Scotland. It often shoots up when Rangers play Celtic. This is because Rangers is a Protestant team, while Celtic is a catholic team, and the two groups split along those lines. When Rangers lose it isn't just your team, it's your whole religion losing. So you get drunk, and then beat your wife/kids.

So yeah, the Scots vs Scots thing isn't quite love/hate, it's more just hate.

Edit: Just a note, this is really a West of Scotland thing, primarily Glasgow. In Edinburgh it's alright.
Uhh...no you don't. I live in Glasgow, and a heavy Celtic-supporting area, and when they lose, the kids don't get a kicking.

Its only a small minority-the same sort of dickheads who support white power and think Nick Griffin is a modern-day Moses of the working class- who go out, get loaded up on cheap vodka and Buckfast and cause trouble. Not all Celtic/Rangers fans are bigoted arseholes, like the IRA and the Orangemen are.
Whoops, crap, forgot to say this was mainly around a bit ago and from minorities. *facepalm*

A Brit making reference to an American TV show like roots that was never broadcast in the UK as a racial insult?!?? That I find unlikely. I'll give her the benefit of the doubt that she heard him use a racial slur, but not one like that. This seems a lot more like something she might have misheard than something he actually said.

Are there ANY witnesses to this? At all? Has she made an official complaint?

It's conceivable that one random guy may have made a direct racist comment, but does she expect the police just to swoop in on some sort of clairvoyance? She doesn't say if she ever informed the authorities but if she had surely she would have mentioned that they would have refused to do anything or never showed up.

The British way is NOT to be confrontational, if someone is a cruel-bastard we avoid confrontation. That's not because we agree with the cruelty, we just know that we will likely get in just as much trouble for getting involved. There seems to be the assumption that it should always be "left to the experts" and "don't be a hero, someone will only get hurt".

Remember this is the country where "officially" if your home is being broken into you are not supposed to confront the intruders! It's not that we like our homes being broken into, we just don't want to have the police arrest us as well as the crims when (or if) they ever arrive. Most people are afraid to call the police for how often the public are chastised for "wasting police time" with trivial complaints and how easy it is to end up in cuffs even when you are trying to do the right thing.

All I want to know is, did she cut in line?
If she did, does that justify calling her a slave and a disgusting nigerian? Perspective people.
In Britain, queue-jumping is number 2 after kiddy-fiddling in the "Worse crimes possible" list. I'm surprised she survived the encounter.

Sooooo us british are all racists now? To be honest the only racism you really see in my area is towards the welsh, but it's more banter since the welsh do the exact same to the british, kind puts me in an odd position considering i'm halfg welsh and half english..

and seriously captcha, how am i meant to type the second word:

*EDIT* anyone else notice "She said her own country was "the poster child for racial inequality", but that it was not a secret." that just made me laugh.

Yeah pretty much what everyone else said. In Britain you can't cough too close to an ethnic minority without a witch-hunt being brought upon your person.

Maybe the man was really picking holes in her, frankly shit music!

Another american bitching about Europe's racism, just means that she doesn't understand any of the cultures. Go cry somewhere else.

As a life-long Englishman, I think it's fair to say that the majority of my countrymen are, on a day-to-day basis, wholly uninterested on the goings-on around them, and that the lack of response at the airport by the other was actually just a typical example of English "sod it, I've got my own problems, and I've got to sort it out myself, so should you" attitude, and shouldn't be taken as racism.

As much as anything, every country has it's own loose bands of racists, and she had the misfortune to meet one of the worse examples of them. He did go too far, I wouldn't like to be insulted like that, but labelling an entire country for the shortcomings of a couple of people, that carries a whiff of racial stereotyping in itself.

Vocal minority always fucks over the reputation of a country. Cunts will be cunts. Unfortunately, these are the people who somehow get in the media.

Yes, we have some racist arseholes in this country. That doesn't mean you can use blanket statements to slam an entire country... lol@theirony.

Just laugh at the persons stupidity and move on. Or just make a song out of it:
