I hate those live action children shows today. Remeber Keenan and Kel??? That was a good show. Today you have that hanna montana, and those gay jonas brothers... T.V. is a disgrace today.

It's sad. When I was young, I watched Doug, Rugrats, Hey Arnold and show like that. Now any time I see anything on kids shows, it's really dumb. I feel bad for the kids, because they'll say they grew up on shows like Flapjack or Chowder or whatever.

But if you want a good kids movie, go see How to Train Your Dragon.

You can't tell me that I only like Ghostwriter, Bill Nye the Science Guy, Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego, Chip 'n' Dale Rescue Rangers, Duck Tales, Tale Spin, Square One TV, and The Joy of Painting because I'm looking at them through the rose-colored glasses of nostalgia. These were GOOD SHOWS, and you can't find anything like them in the homogenized landscape of modern-day American TV.

Sadly, now that the American studio system is so bloated and inefficient, everything has to be committee-run, and aimed squarely at the lowest common denominator, to the exclusion of all other demographics.

Hey! Guess what? Kids shows have always sucked. Why? Because they're made for kids. If kids like them, who the hell are you to say they shouldn't because shows were better 'back in the day' when you would watch X-Men. As someone who was obsessed with feeling nostalgic for several years, I went back and watched pretty much every show I loved as a kid. And you know what? They were all fucking. Terrible. The 90s did not have really good cartoons just because you grew up then.

You know what show is good? That Ben 10: Alien Force thing. It's not like an old cartoon, but it seems to try to have a plot. And am I the only one who thinks that new thing on Cartoon Network, Generator Rex, looks awesome? Adventure Time is another new thing coming out that looks good to me. Plus, it came from an animated short which was expanded, so it has to be well-animated and written. Indie stuff is awesome, is what I'm getting at.

Why kid's shows suck nowadays is because, well, why write these clever, funny shows when you can write something based off an LSD trip? Kids eat insanity up, so why give them anything else that takes actual work? Don't play an ace if a 2 will do.

Hey, remember when kids' shows referenced pop culture? You don't see that now. It's because kids today wouldn't get those jokes.
I dunno, something based off of an LSD trip certainly seems quite appealing compared to the shit they actually write.

I do agree. Most shows nowadays suck. Though I do like Chowder and Flapjack, they are pretty funny. Man I miss older cartoons.
EDIT: Oh speaking of kids shows, anyone here remember Legends of the Hidden Temple? That was an awesome kid's game show.

Ren and Stimpy
Ren and Stimpy has never been a kid's show. Ever.
I watched it as a kid! =D

But I do see why my gram would try to turn it off and make me watch something else. <.< Never worked though. Haha.

I think you're mostly just remembering the good shows. There were a lot of mediocre or terrible shows in the 90's, but everyone forgot about them as soon as they were gone. My Saturday morning cartoon watching career game to an abrupt halt when ReBoot was replaced by some ridiculous live action show about fluffy computer viruses that came to life.

There is one show I'll always watch no matter what, Pokemon. It's just never on and instead they play Johnny Test, ugh.

You'd be surprised, take Animaniacs. I never watched it as a kid, I didn't even know about it, so there's no possibly way I could be nostalgic about it. When I watched it recently, I loved it, I absolutely loved it.

I think the reasons they were better in the old days were that they were aimed at adults as much as kids, and they weren't clearly being run by committee over what's 'acceptable' for the tykes.
Completely and utterly this.

Take another one, Courage the Cowardly Dog:
You could never, ever, EVER show this today.

The mixture of pedophilia/psychotic undertones today would make parents break out in a cold sweat.

Back in the 90's? They showed this shit all the time.
I loved that show. It was fucking funny. I think my favorite episode was the one where they were trapped in a giant vacuum cleaner or something. And there was something about an evil hamster, I think...

I forgot, what is Rugrats? All the other shows I remember (and I loved Ed Edd 'n' Eddy, it was the best show on CN)

I think it's part nostalgia, and part truth. I concur that the older cartoons were superior.

Ahh Courage. They should've kept it on. I remember back about 8-10 years you could get CDs of some of those cartoons straight out of a cereal box. Used to have 4 of em, but had to ditch em all. Definately classic cartoons by far.

All I know is that it ended with a jet-ski chase, if I'm not mistaken.

And that was good enough for my 9 year old mind. ;P
