I think the best example of this is the Simpsons. While not a kids show, it is a long running animated series that helps explain my point. When the series first started, it had a small group of writers and animators just experimenting with the idea and it was a huge success for the politically incorrect humor it showed us. As time went on, the series spawned followers from different writers and animators (Family Guy, Futurama (same creator), King of the Hill, South Park, etc). So then we had a lot of great animated sitcoms that were doing the same thing, some more extreme in their statements than others.Soviet Heavy said:Anyone else notice this? I remember when I still watched kids shows, and they actually tried to teach kids stuff. What was cool was that these shows still appeal to me now, because they were designed to be shown to both kids and their parents, who would get little adult jokes thrown in.
But now, now kids shows just suck! I find that a lot of them are an insult to intelligence. They seem to not realize that kids can be smart. So you have absolute shit shows like Animal Mechanicals, or the show with the retarded talking dog doing utter bullshit that has no relevance or morals to speak of.
Anyone here remember Arthur? The show with the anthropomorphic animal children? Yeah, it was great back when I was a kid. But now, the newer episodes are just pathetic. I can't find anything appealing about this whatsoever.
Why do kids shows suck?
But, as most have noticed, the writers for Simpsons has changed over the years. The animation has changed over the years. The edginess has dulled a bit over the years. In short, Simpsons is a shadow of its former self. I can easily look back at old episodes and still fall over laughing when Homer barely saves Springfield from a meltdown by picking a random button to disengage the reactor. Newer episodes, barely a chuckle in some cases. Things change, not always for the better.
