I don't mean to sound like an old prick (because I'm not) but kids shows kind of started sucking after Chuck Jones took over Tom and Jerry and they stopped making the old Looney Toons, Animaniacs, etc.

Cow & Chicken, I Am Weasel, Invader Zim, Ren & Stimpy, Dexter's Laboratory and Spongebob are the greatest cartoons ever. (Although I'm not sure Ren & Stimpy is a childrens show, considering they had an episode with topless chicks at the beach)

Like I said before, when older generations look at today's children shows they are looking at it from the view of an outsider. Outsiders tend to only see the garbage heap that always makes up the majority of any media. When your an insider you tear through the garbage heap and find the few gems hidden deep within. Nostalgia kicks in when you start comparing the best things from your childhood against the worst things of today that tend to stick to the surface of the metaphorical garbage heap.

There are plenty of good shows on and new ones being made but you first have to get through the Hannah Montana's and Loony toons EXTREME. Fairly Oddparents is a good cartoon with its own charm and wit. There are plenty of other good shows like that too.

Oh I forgot to mention Pelswick that was an awesome show. It was about a sharp witted kid in a wheelchair and his guardian angel who acts like a acid victim. I really liked how the two girls were best friends that openly hated each other.

I think it really depends. But most are just absolute waffle and guff about nothing that make you wonder how they even got past the pilot episode.

As a writer though it does make me kind of hopeful that if they can get 'published' and their ideas must appeal to someone, then my own writing and ideas might have a fighting chance :)

How has it taken this long for someone to mention the Spectacular Spider-man? That show is freaking awesome. It is better than the 90s Spider-man series, and this is coming from someone who grew up watching that show religiously.

Also, if any Marvel executives are reading this: Greenlight a third series. And give it more advertising over here in the UK. It would be a massive hit, but I don't even know what channel it was broadcast on, if it was ever shown on these shores.

And adults only like older cartoons due to nostalgia? Nuh-uh. I only ever saw Batman: Mask of the Phantasm as a kid. Now, as an adult, I've started watching Batman: The Animated Series. And it. Kicks. Ass. Seriously, I do not see how anyone can look at stuff like that and say "Well, it was good back then, but it sucks now". It doesn't. As a final note, the best Joker was not Jack Nicholson. It was not Heath Ledger. It was Mark freaking Hamill.
Agreed, the DC:AU shows are all stellar.

But my personal favourite was Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker. That movie was fucking vicious. It also had the coolest Jokerz gang in the whole series.

Anyone else notice this? I remember when I still watched kids shows, and they actually tried to teach kids stuff. What was cool was that these shows still appeal to me now, because they were designed to be shown to both kids and their parents, who would get little adult jokes thrown in.

But now, now kids shows just suck! I find that a lot of them are an insult to intelligence. They seem to not realize that kids can be smart. So you have absolute shit shows like Animal Mechanicals, or the show with the retarded talking dog doing utter bullshit that has no relevance or morals to speak of.

Anyone here remember Arthur? The show with the anthropomorphic animal children? Yeah, it was great back when I was a kid. But now, the newer episodes are just pathetic. I can't find anything appealing about this whatsoever.

Why do kids shows suck?
Because they are too politcially correct nowadays to shut up the people who complain about TV.

And here's my list of shows that were on when I was a kid and are far more awesome than anything today:

Duck Tales
Darkwing Duck
Tale Spin
Pokemon
Digimon
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Monster Rancher
Wishbone
Bill Nye the Science Guy
Sonic the Hedgehog (SatAM)

Yeah, I'm done listing old good shows. I'm off to watch Sonic the Hedgehog: The Complete Series on DVD.

I never liked Arthur when I was a kid, I just thought he was annoying. I liked Hey Arnold better it had so many good morals.

Ughh, can't you just discuss this on the millions of threads over the million forums about this topic?
I've heard this fucking statement more times then I've heard people criticize MW2.

even spongebob has gone bad! and sesame street! the old episodes are legendary and are still entertaining, but newer ones are so stale and unfunny (especially spongebob, which seems, like the simpsons, to have run out of ideas)

and new kids shows are universally terrible
SB and SS were both awesome!! And I hate how both of them have gone bad :( But I guess that's just a symptom of being on the air for too long.

Why kid's shows suck nowadays is because, well, why write these clever, funny shows when you can write something based off an LSD trip?
If LSD didn't inspired this, THEN WHAT THE HELL DID?!!!:

Yo Gabba Gabba: The Most Annoying and Creepy Show Ever in the History of Child TV [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ymlNZh0Zw70]

I agree, a majority of the shows today for Kids suck major. No wonder why children turn to adult cartoons. The only good Kid cartoons now and days are Flapjack, Spongebob, and Adventure Time (Which Looks okay), and Chowder in certain areas.
Spongebob rocks mah socks!! (though mainly the older episodes). "Adventure Time" was one of those 'toons that was based on a thing on YouTube that was INTENTIONALLY bad with a stream-of-consciousness vibe! (yet no one seems to know about it :( )

As for YGG? Well, you got a point, it seems like it definitely has an "acid-trip" vibe to it, lol :p But "Sesame Street" had that, too, esp. in the '70s, '80s, and early '90s. And the guests on Yo Gabba are all kinds o' awesome (The Shins, of Montreal, Band of Horses, and The Killers, to name a few...and the great Weird Al Yankovic!!) It's great to see a show take on the classic SS vibe, but there's a MAJOR complaint I have about Yo Gabba Gabba as well.

But where SS has moments in their "classic" ('70s/'80s) episodes that I can look back on with fond nostalgia (esp. those Kermit the Frog "news" segments - those still crack me up, and prob'ly more so than when I was a kid!!), YGG has very bland characters (except for possibly the host - though I know some have complained he's a bit OVER enthusiastic). There's no prankster vs. square dynamics (a la Ernie and Bert, respectively), or characters whose humor derives from their easy tendency to get frustrated (Kermit), characters who are basically bumbling idiots that still get promoted for jobs that they typically can't handle (a la Grover), or characters whose OCD-ish qualities pretty much define them (a la The Count and Cookie Monster - BTW I'm a bit OCD myself so I hope no one takes offense to that comment).

At least "older kids'" from today shows ATTEMPT to have humor (though they usually fail at it worse than Fozzie Bear, lol :p ) But "younger kids'" shows?! It just disgusts me greatly that "Sesame Street" is basically the ONLY show I can THINK of in the HISTORY of pre-K aimed TV that has managed to make adults laugh (with, not at ;) ) when they look back on it. What, do people think little kids have no sense of humor (and/or a very simplistic one)?!? That is SOOOO not true!! There needs to be a show out there for younger kids with humor aimed at both them AND their parents! If anyone knows of one please link me to it! BTW, sorry if my ranting bored you, made you want to stuff cotton in your ears, etc. :p I just HAD to get it off my chest.

Speaking as an animator, I can completely blame the censors, the PC brigade and 'enraged parents.' Executives, parents and viewers who are 'offended' on behalf of audiences because they've read too much into the context of a programme. The best kids tv shows are the ones that have something for adults as well.
Doing a project on the powerpuff girls, I got to watch the old episodes again, and some of the stuff in it is surprisingly adult, but the powerpuff girls are still known to everyone!

Also, techo-whore studios who shove substandard cgi cartoons on the air to cash in on the technology before people become bored of it.
