They are missing the point completely! It's too dangerous for kids outside so we will imprisson them in their homes unless they want to travel so far away from their homes to play that they are ACTUALLY IN DANGER unless their parents go with them, and in today's society we all know that parents cant travel to a park with their kids to play EVERY DAY which is roughly how often kids play outside.
Let kids play outside, so what if it's dangerous, kids learn though hurting themselves. if they graze their knee, at the time they may think they are going to die from blood loss, but after that they will graze their knee and keep running around as if nothing happened. If they almost get run over thyey learn to stay out of the road when there are cars.

Kids are definitley too shelterd these days. From the age of 9 I was allowed to roam the village with my friends provided I checked back in before 6:30 and I believe it made me a more responsible person. Honestly, if parents ban their kids from doing anything more dangerous than using crayons how will they ever learn to be independent? Getting a few cuts and grazes is part of being a kid, for god's sake!!!
I think the issue is in two ends here. Over protective parents and legal system - America got a legal system in which anyone can sue almost about anything for as much as they want, it is missing common sense. And when government and institutions are missing common sense the residents start to loose it too.

We didn't.. We got held in at lunchtime, scolded by the deputy head (who tried to run the place as if it was hers) and some what congratulated by the head.. It was mixed feelings in the teaching staff. Yea I know what ya mean, for example it's fine if it's say.. No climbing trees (we had that rule as well) but even that got taken to extreams when everyone got banned from our climbing frame/jungle gym. It was torn down when I left.

In my time and age, parents allowed us to have fun and get rough! I remember when I fell down and cut myself on a piece of glass. Did my folks freak and banned me from the outdoors?
NO! They told me to clean the cut and bandage it! To suck it up go outside and stop loafing in front of the TV! And you know what? I did!
When I was little, I ate sand and grass and dirt and licked shiny rocks and the walls in the garage! And they tasted delicious.
