Lord have mercy...

I honestly don't know where to begin. Killzone 2 is going to be amazing!

First, let's go with cosmetics. Killzone 2 looks great. No, that's not fair. Killzone 2 looks brilliant! Whilst the Demo doesn't show too much, it seems we are free of the "Real is Brown" mentality. Unfortunately, we've got "Real is Black" instead. Everything in the demo looks a shade of Black. A very good shade of black, but black.

Now for the important bit; the controls. People claimed the controls were some insane combination where the X, Square, O and Triangle moved, and you had to rotate the left stick to fire or some other gibberish... it's not true. The default controls are pretty much what you'd expect from a PS3 game - it's very close to Resistance 2's layout, albeit with a few changes. Nothing too confusing, that's for sure.

Finally, gameplay. Oh lord... this is a FPS with a cover mechanic. I kid you not. I heard so many retards bitching that Resistance 2 had no cover mechanic, and now Killzone's sporting one. It is brilliant!

The enemy AI displayed some skills as well. They used cover, and they used it intelligently - if you flanked them, you could bring down the pain, but they would relocate fast. The enemy also avoided the "I'll stay here" tactic - rather than popping up in the same spot all the time, the enemy moved back and forth within their cover.

Overall, Killzone 2 is looking to live up to the hype - it looks good, it plays great, and it actually has something innovative in it; the cover system!

Killzone 2 is going to be the FPS to beat. We can but hope the full game is as good as the demo...

I just finished downloading the demo and let's see what I think of it.

Edit: I played it for a few minutes new and I'm pretty impressed. The game plays very good (the cover system takes some time to get used to though), it looks nice but it is a little bit to chaotic for me.

I actually enjoyed it.

Now if I had a mechanic in which I could eject the billion little whiney a**holes I seem to be encountering when I play the demo, it would be perfect.

The random swearing 9 year-old whiner that I can't seem to mute factor is one of the biggest put-offs for KZ2 that I presently have.

Otherwise, I can't wait.

Played through it about 10 times today, the cover mechanic was very easy to get used to, and considering how important is, that's really good. It is pretty easy though, cover isn't cheap, but it does make it pretty easy to regenerate enough health to nail the red-eyed bastard that nearly dropped you.

Played at a friends house who preordered it, an i had a lot of fun.

but just as I suspected It looks great but it isn't even attempting to innovate.
The cover system was alright but it took some getting used to.
also it was short.

Solid game though

Wha? Demo? Where?! I looked at the store not too long ago and didn't see anything...
Only in Europe and Austrralia. You have to go through Gamestop.
Or you have to work for an organization that gets the demos before everyone else. Usually, that's a game reviewer, but not always.

Noo! Damn us Americans!
Actually you can get it in America. I'm an American. I just got it by pre-ordering it through Gamestop. And its so going to be worth it.

WOW! The graphics are incredible. And all the details they thought of. The water is incredible. The enemies move realistically. Your gun is blurry up close in cover because in real life it would be that way since your eye would be focusing on the distance. the game is admittedly a bit chaotic to watch because there is so much going on. But for having a very black/gray color scheme, they manage to still pull colors through and give it a great look. I really think its the best graphics the PS3 has seen. Just wish the demo was longer. The gameplay feels solid and I really like the cover system. R6V2 arguably has a better one, but for a non-tactical shooter the cover system is great. The character has a heavier feel than most games so the controls are a bit stiffer. It feels more realistic. I was afraid it'd be to stiff but after a couple minutes I quickly adjusted and like it a lot. I really think this game is worth pre-ordering. And yes you can get it as an American! :D

Um guys. If you make another PSN account and say you're from Europe you can download the demo. That's what I did. I hail from sunny Whalebutt!

It's great that you like it, but you don't explain why everything is so good. Like this bit:

Why is it brilliant? How does it work? Could you compare it to anything (Rainbow 6: Vegas for example)? These are all things to think about.

Otherwise, written fairly nicely, but really do need something to add substance to what you're saying. Keep trying.

Put simply, I've not played a FPS with a cover mechanic before, so there's nothing to compare it with.

Also, it's a demo you can beat in ten minutes. How does one "provide substance" for that?

I just find it funny that there's actually a reason for an American to get a non-American account now instead of the other way around.

This.

Gushing praise using a variety of different adjectives does not really constitute a critical review.

Although I'm sure it's a very nice game (added to avoid fanboy zombie pile-ons).

The better option is to actually be in Australia. That saves you a small amount of time, there's no ethical issue, its a slightly faster connection, and you get the added benefit of being in Australia.
By added "benefit" you mean an added 60 dollars on the retail release right?

No a better option would be for game companies to stop being douchebags about regional releases, especially when it's very easy to sign up for a secondary account. This isn't quite on par with Capcom's "woah, people are playing Resident Evil 5's demo let's make it region locked" douchebaggery but it's still fairly close.

The only thing this game has going for it is the AI. Really, that's all I like. I don't care for the cover system that much because it doesn't handle well. Typically my gun barrel is point at where I want to see, and to aim I have to pop up and then zoom, I can't trigger the zoom in cover and then pop up to be zoomed. Next, it's accurate. The thing is, if you can see over the top of your cover, the enemy can shoot you. It's fine when you're in building, hiding around a corner and can take a step back. When you can step away, it's cool, and popping out is fun. Unfortunately, it's a lot like using cover in Call of Duty; you stand next to the wall and try to not get shot.

Also, why the hell I can't blind fire? The Helghast do it all the time, but I'm not allowed? What's up with that?

Also, what's up with the Helghast design? They look like the Combine soldier guys from Half Life 2, except with their stuff spray painted black, because this game loves black.

It's a promising game, but it needs more work. Also, it needs to let me, the player decide what control scheme I want. Let *me* choose how my character controls, because you fellows are morons who don't consider that the various schemes in Halo or Call of Duty are the worth the time of day.
