Have you ever Played Eye of Judgement?
It's not a big deal if someone decides to use a 3D camera for an Eyetoy and call it Kinect. Voice recognition was used on the DS already. The only difference is the software.
Btw. you are right there is a difference between a d-Pad and an analog stick, the analog stick is sloppy as hell.

Well now we know where you're coming from when you talk about Kinect. It puts things in perspective.

To me the analog stick enabled most of my favorite video games. Have fun playing Halo or Call of Duty with a d-pad.

I expect Kinect to do the same for a new generation of games. Just like the analog stick didn't eliminate the d-pad, Kinect won't eliminate the analog stick. The purpose is to open up new game possibilities not to retrofit old games.

I Play Call of Duty with Mouse & Keyboard, like every other FPS.

Well then you are in the minority. CoD Modern Warfare 2 has sold about 20 million copies on Xbox & PS3 using analog sticks and far far less than that on PC with M&K controls. Obviously not everyone is as fanatical as you are about analog sticks or controls in general. There was pretty much no chance that you were going to like motion controls like Move and Kinect if you can't even tolerate analog sticks.

We are at the point of turn though. Video games only took in other media tech cause it just had to. But if 3D actually becomes more than a fad, its not movies, but games that will make it so.
As for Kinect...I want it to be good, because I agree it has potential, but I am too cautious to champion it yet until I experience it myself.

I never said I am fanatical, I just prefer a good d-pad and a mouse+keyboard to an analog stick, never thought there is something wrong with it. People may use controlls they like, I am not going to stop them or judge them because of that, but I still think analog sticks are too sloppy to be used in a shooter and this is my opinion.

However, let's go back to the topic:
You argue with someone who played Kinect and saw it not working properly though you never used Kinect and don't know whenever it works, because of that I cannot take you seriously on this topic at all. Don't bother quoting me, I won't respond.

Who said I never used Kinect? Kinect has been at my local Macy's for over a month now. I've never played this MotionSports skiing game which you say is broken, but there are dozens of videos of the game being played on Youtube and the game works perfectly fine:

Here's a new video just posted today on Youtube from Gamescom: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pj0qZcO8lqo

You say the Kinect skiing doesn't work but my eyes show me that it is working. You don't take me seriously, why should anyone take YOU seriously???

Professional game publications like IGN & Gamepro say that skiing on Kinect works with far more precision than it did on the Wii balance board. Sorry if I don't just take one random person's word for it on the Internet when all other evidence refutes what he is saying.

Myeh. I think this idea is doomed to failure, but who doesn't want to punch a biker? He's got a point there.

Okay, fuck this guy. First, he bashes on PC, saying "Hardly anyone plays FPS games on it anymore", then says he wants his PoS motion sensor on THE VERY SAME THING?
Does this man have no sense of irony?

Damn, you beat me to it (though I don't agree with the blue language). I can not take this guy's comments seriously as he obviously does not have a firm grasp on reality, from his PC FPS claims. I assume this was all said in the same day. So one minute the PC is defunct as a platform for playing FPS, the next moment oh but it will be great with Kinect technology. Or Kinect will be so epoch making that it will revitalize the PC in the same way it is just about to do for Xbox360. Big ego for your project much?

This news should not be a surprise, Bill Gates has been talking about this when Kinect was announced. I welcome any new why of controlling the PC and will use it where it makes sense to use it. But Kinect will ever only be just one of many controllers for the PC and phones. On the PC it will sit on my desk with my mouse, joypad, steering wheel and Flightstick, as just another edition to the family. It won't be the epoch making control method that will render everything else obsolete (at least not for a few generations). But what do you expect from a guy who from his previous comments has been shown to see the world in a non factual way....

Are you freaking kidding me?! Okay, PC, sure, but Phones?!

"What are you doing, sir?"
"I'm playing Call of Duty: Mobile Ops."
"Well, you've just broken into our building, and started prancing around in front of your cellular phone, please stop before I call the police."

I guess people are too lazy to actually go the extra 2 inches and touch their phone in the guy's mind.

We have touchscreen capabilities and voice recognition. The only faster way of input I can think of would be wired through your thoughts, something Kinect can only fantasize about

Big plan Mr. Tsunoda but you still have to make me buy it, and as long as I live I will
never...
ever...
ever...
buy your indefinite, fallible, misleading, rough, vague, loose, careless, ambiguous, inaccurate, sloppy, treacherous, woolly, hazy, indeterminate, equivocal, wild, faulty, unreliable, defective, unfaithful, erroneous, unsound, ill-defined, inexact, wide of the mark method of control.

I have a mouse that generates 5600 individual points of reference per inch, it's quick, accurate and I never need to repeat a movement because it reads my movements correctly every time all the time. I cannot think of a more precise and efficient way of navigating a system in two dimensions and evidently neither can anybody else because it's been the same device for nearly 40 years; before that it was just inverted as a trackball, which has been around for 58 years. Until we have to navigate a completely three dimensional system (not just a simulated one) it's not useful, and woefully underpowered.

OT: Can we get over gimmicky motion controls and move on to direct-to-brain controllers, please?
Sure. Let's replace gimicky motion controls with gimicky mind-reading controls...

Like, say, this one: http://www.emotiv.com/

But I have a feeling this will be just as bad as a typical motion controller in terms of reliability.

But, at least you don't have to move your body to use it. ;p
