I played it with a friend and while I personally did find a few bits a tad grating I could understand that some people might be into this sort of thing.

As a result of my brief time writing games reviews (as an amatuer mind you, I do intend to get back into it though) I've had to hold back my personal opinion of whether I liked the game and just look at it for what it is, I may hate a game beond all reason but in the end I'll still have to bow down and at least acknowledge that the gameplay was pretty solid or the atmosphere was great (etc.).

In short, if you don't like it, don't play it (leave that to someone who does like it).

Speaking of Kingdom Hearts, how many Escapists have played 358/2 Days? I found it very enjoyable despite the limited capacity, and definately a worthy addition to the series.
It had a very good, and cohesive plote (Although the pacing could've been much better), and it actually turned Roxas into a likeable character for me (He had way to little screentime in KHII to warrant hes near demi-god status among most of the fans...)
Oh good. I was planning to check the game out eventually (Squinx loves Nintendo best, they do!), glad to here that unlikeable Mr. 3-Hour-Tutorial probably won't drag it down.
Lemme just give you a word of warning though. The tutorial can get a bit dull, but there's some good humour in there that keeps you going. And the plot pacing could've done with more evening out, pretty much everything is crammed into the later half of the game. I still think the plot holds up well through the entire game, they could've just put some more into the first half

I gave up on Kingdom Hearts around the time I was running around an island for hours looking for a single coconut that I'd missed. That dog won't hunt, monsignior.

I find this to be a real shame 'cos I love the idea of Disney characters in badass situations, and the idea of Mickey Mouse showing up Sephiroph the whingy one-winged twat was delicious. Here's hoping Epic Mickey will have a tutorial I can get past!

EDIT - Kingdom <3's? If you can't be arsed to take the time to type a full word in your TITLE, noone's going to take you seriously. Of course, I don't think you care about that, which screams "troll" to me...

Sorry, but what the fudge is Kingdom Hearts? From what i get,it's a whiny-dramatic jRPG with Disney characters... BLEUGH!
JRPG, but it was an action JRPG (which instantly add a ton of points). Whiny, eh maybe. The Disney characters are just there, and by the end of the game you'll love Donald and Goofy for backing you up in some pretty crazy boss battles.

Donald and Goofy are only good for healing you.

I love Kingdom Hearts so much because the story is actually pretty good. I really want to know more about Roxas and Sora (I haven't finished 358/2 Days).

Riddle me this: How do you take a GAME seriously? It's nice that you've got your own opinion, but here's mine.

If you're looking for any kind of video game that you can take seriously, then you've completely missed the point of video games, and you should probably pick a different pastime.

With all due respect, what the hell are you talking about? There's nothing "emo" (Damn I HATE that word) about Kingdom Hearts. I don't know where you get that from.
As for why I enjoyed it, well I thought it had a very surprisingly deep story while at the same time getting in touch with that little kid inside me.
emo = sora crying when he sees riku in xenahort form. enough said.

I'm loving the game so far. The combat and magic are fun, the worlds are well put-together, Sora's a pretty cool guy, as are most of the other characters, and fighting against Disney villains is actually rather fun.

It's also the only story I've ever seen have a "my friends are my power" speech that didn't sound cheesy.

That's not entirely fair. They're quite good at drawing fire, too.

Not sure. I saw the cover, walked away. A few friends gabbed on about it for a few months, but I never paid it much mind. Then again, they probably did the same thing seeing the cover for Metal Gear Solid 1, so whatever. People just have different tastes...

Even if it is a pathetic wank-fest of Disney, Final Fantasy, and everything I hate about JRPG's all rolled into one crap-tacular spectacle-filled package.

...yes, because that's clearly indicative of musical taste, lack of fashion sense, and self-indulgent whining, and not a character's genuinely emotional tears.

Clearly.

Good god, I knew that word was overused, but has it finally lost all meaning?

Because crying after seeing one of your best friends when you've been separated for years filled with danger and not even knowing if they were okay or not is unacceptable. Man, what are these developers thinking, having such a thing in the game? They may as well have worked on a sequel to Barbie Horse Adventures.

That's not emo. Emo is being incurably sad for incredibly strange reasons. Sora cries because he's happy to see his best friend Riku. I love the series and always will. (I named my daughter Kairi for crying out loud.) But I did find the tears for Riku kinda gay. In addition to the fact that he's way more happy to see Riku then he is to see his "girlfriend."

I know! When are people going to learn? Crying is emo. Hands down.

I mean, just look at Kenshiro!

What a wuss.

Kids these days and their tutorials. In my day, you plugged your controller in, blew the cartridge, then started pressing buttons until things happened. In the snow. Uphill. Both ways. If you got really famboozled you checked the user manual.
I agree. I would love to do away with all tutorials. If you can't figure something out then read a little bit. Plus if you ever want to replay it gets really tedious. But I loved 358/2 days. Really fleshed out Axel's friendship with Roxas, which I thought felt kind of forced before.
