Kingdom Hearts 1.5 discussion

Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 finally got released today, and as a dedicated fan I am of this series I couldn't resist pre-ordering it. I've only gotten to traverse town as of now, but so far it looks great! There are little details from what I can tell they've added in, and the best element so far is the option to SKIP CUTSCENES!
No more hearing fuckin' maleficent yelling 'Darkness, the true Darkness!' or Riku's monologue right before you fight him the second time in Hollow Bastion for the hundredth time.

Anyone else gotten 1.5?
I recommend getting it if you haven't even played the Final Remix since it never got officially released in the states. Chain of memories and 358/2 days(now a movie) is included as well.

I haven't gotten it yet, but I'm curious about the 358/2 Days cutscenes (which I have not played yet either). I remember reading that there's ~3 hours of cutscenes in lieu of the game. Have you watched any yet?

I haven't got it yet though I certainly intend to as soon as I can. This version also includes Chain of Memories dosen't it? I always wanted to check it out since it had so many repurcussions in Kingdom Hearts 2.

I'm glad to hear it looks good so far as I was curious how it would actually turn out when I heard they basically had to remake the entire game over from scratch?

I've had HD 1.5 ever since it came out in Japan back in March. It's an interesting port, but it still had some flaws.
For one they made the Unknown battle legendarily easier, no idea how, and didn't factor in that Triangle is used for both telling teammates to attack and for activating the specials. This make farming the Pink Agaricus near impossible. I hope they fixed it for the US release for you all.

Don't get me wrong, it's good but there are some little things wrong with it. Heck I somehow got convinced to LP Final Mix HD for Game Anyone again, and it's another 100% run. Right now I'm at Hollow Bastion, but I've had no time to record any farther unfortunately due to school.

Now to go and see if I have any copyright claims on my videos since HD 1.5 is out in the US now, got some back when it came out in Japan as well.

Yes I have, and it's pretty much a movie with some text to fill you in what happened in between the cutscenes. It's pretty good for anyone who hadn't played the DS game. The graphics do look better on the PS3.

Yes, it does have Chain of Memories, so everyone can play catch up on the story.
From what I remember reading, nomura said they had lost a lot of the game files and had to remake the missing data. So far I can't tell, but I'm about to leave traverse town.

So there are two games--Kingdom Hearts and Chain of Memories--plus a movie about 358/2 Days. Is that correct? Do you get a trophy for watching the movie? I liked 358/2 Days, but I'm glad I don't have to play it again. I found the gameplay boring and the story was the only thing that kept me going. Knowing that I can just enjoy the story now is a big relief. I will be picking my copy up today whenever I decide to get the energy to get out of the house. Hm...

Remind me, is this the Final Mix version of Kingdom Hearts that was only in Japan, or is it a straight up remake/port of the original U.S. version?

You do get trophies for watching the movies, but there is no Platinum trophy for it. There are also 2 hidden ones, one which can only be unlocked after watching all the movies. Funny thing is that you don't even need to watch them fully, just watch them for a second and it'll mark the cutscene as watched. The trophies don't unlock until you are on the title screen again.
It is the Final Mix version of Kingdom Hearts 1 and not the original Kingdom Hearts.

They had to rework pretty much all of Kingdom Hearts 1 Final Mix as they lost the data for it at some point. Final Mix HD has the most work done on it though and it will become apparent when you go from Final Mix HD to Re: Chain of Memories HD. Mainly when it comes to the models as they didn't update all the models.

Oh, and by the way, the trophies for fighting all the hidden bosses, Sephiroth, Kurt Zisa, Phantom, Ice Titan, and the Unknown are also all Bronze.
I have a picture of the list of trophies you can get since I've been Let's Playing Final Mix HD on Game Anyone for a couple of months now and the Game Anyone site will translate the trophies for you. Want me to get you the picture?
I'm also asking for the site admin there, Maceman, to translate the trophy list to English for all since it's officially out for all now.

Here's my biggest question, how are the controls of KH1? I heard they got remade to be more like KH2, and therefore better (with the second analogue stick for the camera). Is it true? Game isn't out here, yet, so I can't check for myself.

I've been wanting to replay Kingdom Hearts for... God, it feels like forever. At least as long as it's been since my backwards-compatible PS3 bricked. I played the original KH enough to unlock basically EVERYTHING, and I'm interested to see if my skills in beating Sephiroth have gotten rusty.

Incidentally, about Sephiroth having a bronze trophy...


Come on man, Sephiroth is one of those legendary challenges of gaming. And all he gets is a fucking bronze trophy? Someone at Square hates humanity, I'll tell you that right now.

Also, I've never played the FM version of KH. So this'll be my first time fighting the Unknown. Shame that, from what I understand, he's been nerfed. Oh well.

I paid about $40 plus tax, and got a neat little artbook as well. Not cheap, but no too expensive considering you're getting 2 games and a movie.

Yes they changed the camera to the second analog stick. I had to fight the camera in the beginning, but I'm getting used to it as I go along.

Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2 controlled pretty much the same, only real difference was that the right analog stick in Kingdom Hearts 1 would also control the command window. In Kingdom Hearts HD they made it so that the camera is controlled by the right analog stick.

Summoning has also been moved to the bottom of the command menu, as before it was located at the bottom of the Magic menu.

Ironically I died 4 times against him in my LP of the PS2 Final Mix when not recording, but I killed him on my first attempt when actually recording. Got lucky a few times though. XD

Anyway, pictures for you, the spelling is off because Game Anyone hasn't updated the trophy list to be English yet, and Google Translates Japanese about as well as a blind person so there are some spelling errors, but these are the official trophies in the game. When you see the 'One' thing it means that there is one video that shows that trophy, and it's mine, and the bounty thing isn't important as that just applies to Game Anyone members.

I personally love it. I'm not too far, seeing as I'm going to be busy for the next four days and only got a little while to play it today, but it certainly is a great Nostalgic trip.

Kinda sad they couldn't add II in it. I love that game.

Oh no, Sephiroth wasn't nerfed, only the Unknown was, and the Unknown was only nerfed by one attack.
See the Unknown has a move that would scramble up the command menu just like how the Enigmatic Soldier would, but they moved the button for you to be released from it to the triangle button.

It's already out? Golly-gosh-dang. I've been anticipating GTA 5 so much that I neglected the release of one of my favorite series.

Ya know, Kingdom Hearts was actually my VERY FIRST ps2 game. I got it for Christmas one year along with my PS2 and had no idea what it was. All I knew was that it had Donald and Goofy on the cover and I was sold. Now, Kingdom Hearts is one of my favorite franchises and have bought almost every game to come out, despite it being split out across multiple platforms.

Although the HD collection has a serious lack of KH2 (Probably coming in a second pack with Birth By Sleep), I'll still pick it up once it hits $20 or so to get a super big nostalgia rush. I also heard that the collection makes some improvements to KH1 in terms of gameplay. How big of an improvement is it compared to the original version, aside from all of the bonus content?
