To be fair, that seems to be the doing of the more rabid, crazed fans of the games than it is the developers.
I don't know.... I mean Axel and Roxas did seem pretty canonically homosexual for one another.

Or maybe that was just really intense bro love. *shifty eyes*
Hahaha, I never said the developers weren't doing anything to downplay that sort of interpretation.

Okay, after reading through, I denounce thee, not a troll! But you almost were there.

but as for this, what youre missing is the story apparently. did you just mindlessly hack through? Because even though the story is very Square Enix-y, it is one of the strongest parts of the game. You ask questions about plot points that get resolved throughout the game. I say give em another try and pay a little closer attention

Nooooo I do not want to be a troll. D: *hides face in paper bag* I was asking a question rather innocently but I guess it got all misinterpreted...

ALRIGHT. I deduce I should try it again and then report my findings. Preferably before I get new games to distract me.... >_> Cause I actually really love some of the Final Fantasy games and the story telling -- sooo perhaps I was just incredibly dense a few years ago. Which isn't actually that hard to believe. *hides the rest of self in a much bigger paper bag*

And I suppose if I don't like it after trying it again I can just come to terms with the fact that it's not for me.

They do seem to enjoy fueling that homosexual fire...

*makes shifty eyes again*

I always kind of thought the game was for kids and teenagers, then you don't care about all the small things as much and think it's cool.

Either way I hate Kingdom Hearts now.
I suppose I might have thought that but when I asked some gamers at my college to recomend me a good RPG they all replied with this one. So I dunno.

Now? So you didn't used to?

The thing that sold it for me was that it wasn't turn based. Would I have liked it even if it was? Probably. It just has a certain charm to it that keeps me from putting it down. Except for 358/2 Days. That was just dull. Plus, Roxas is the worst addition to a series ever.

Quite frankly I don't get it either, but here's the punchline: I'm in love with the games. There is just something about the game that I find..... weirdly addictive. I gues I'm just a natural born button masher, eh?

I guess I just expected to like it since I like the JRPG genre well enough and the KH battle system was way fun . Buuut I don't know, something felt missing to me, and I really didn't understand the whole point of any of it, like the story or why Sora has the power of the keyblade or whatever.
The point of the story? Uh... to be told. Like every other story. Birth by Sleep will take care of the "why does Sora wield a Keyblade" thing. It's a plot that needs elaboration; it can't be contained to just a couple of games. That's why the series is expanding the way it is.
So why is this game so popular?
What is it that I'm missing? (Or not missing?)
Do you like the series?

Maybe my problem with it was Donald and Goofy. Really hard to take it seriously when I'm being followed by two idiots the whole gameplay. (Not that Sora is the definition of intelligence, but he is sort of cute and likeable enough.)
It's popular because it's fun, which apparently you had while playing it.
I'm not sure you're missing anything. Maybe you're looking too much into it.
Yes, I very much enjoy the series.

I love the battle system - I hope a Secret of Mana remake uses it at some point - but I just can't get over the weirdness of Goofy and Donald running around in a JRPG. It just feels like shallow marketing, like those Cool Spot 7-Up or California Raisins games.

I always held it to Fad reputation, as well as a questionable marketing gimmick.

Disney was popular, Square was popular, surely a merger between the two would be far more successful.
A little off-topic perhaps, but your avatar makes my skin crawl!

This one. He speaks the truth.

I miss the tagline "You never know, who you will run into next."

Now it's: "Who can we yaoi pair this time around?"
I lol'ed hard

Yeah, confused me too.
I suppose "final fantasy + Disney, duh" is an answer that makes sense, but as someone who dislikes both of these things, and didn't see much going for Kingdom Hearts, this leaves me a bit more confused than before.

I don't understand it either, maybe it is like that Justin Bieber thing, i.e just a phase, give it enough time and it'll pass.

I never understood it either. It was a bog-standard game with some copyrighted faces slapped around it. No fun gameplay, no real depth, nothing.

It was like Super Smash Bros. but without the fun or charm.

The battle system was win. I actually enjoyed grinding. ... Why couldn't FF12 do that? >:|

I have a feeling that in the grande scheme of things the Goofy and Donald thing was my biggest pet peeve. I suppose if they had a mute button on them and Donald's AI wasn't utter shit it might have bothered me less.

x_x I just can't stand goofy as a character so that didn't help. I guess it's hard to make sense of a complex plot when there are shallow disney characters running around after you the whole time. It's mind boggling.

I agree; same thing with smash brothers; Nintendo is popular, Beating each other up in games is popular...

to back that argument, imagine a smash bros clone with non-Nintendo characters, no matter how good it is it would never be popular (see Powerstone)
