According to the Amalur website tomorrow is the worldwide release of the demo. This game is looking good and i'll certainly be trying the demo and if it's as good as I expect, then preordering straight away. Since I have to work tomorrow I won't be downloading until about 7pm. Please make sure you don't download at that time so all the bandwidth is mine :)

Yeah, I've picked up interest in the game. It's supposed to be written by RA Salvatore. If the demo is good, I'll probably pick it up.

I'll need to download that. No idea what the bloody hell it's about, but from what I've heard it seems good.
EDIT: Just tried it out. Eh, it's alright. Combat is a bit awkward, heavy weapons seem pretty useless so far, and jesus christ those wolves kicked my arse. I'll probably get it at some point, but I wouldn't recommend a day one purchase.

Hopefully he brings his 90's talent back with him, and not what he's done lately.

OT: I've heard good things about the gameplay, though unless I'm blown away by the combat I'll be waiting for reviews to come out that tell the quality of the story. I don't feel like spending 60 bucks when there's a bunch of other games in Feb I want to get if I'm not going to enjoy the storytelling.

Ign has a review-in-progress for the game - sounds positive so far, ESP. the combat.
Not to mention, this is where Big Huge Games (of Rise of Nations fame) and some of the oblivion staff have been spending the last five or so years.
Really looking forward to this one. Demo's just the icing on the cake.

Might I inquire how good the demo is, later? Unfortunately for me, my internet is too slow to so much as sign into PSN, nevermind manage to download a demo. I have heard many great things, but I haven't yet had the pleasure of experiencing his work. If you wouldn't mind sharing with me sometime after, what you thought of the demo, that would be most awesome of you.

Also: Be careful, she looks Chasind. And that means others could be nearby.

Yeah, sure. There's bound to be a thread on it. I'm generally pretty easy to please when it comes to games, but I'm sure others will be more critical.

I hope the story's good. All the website has is information on classes and combat.

If it's an RPG, shouldn't the emphasis be on the story?

I understand, because I'm the exact same way. I'm more curious than anything about how the demo plays out. I've already got a copy reserved. xD

Ken Ralston is also attached to the project, and he was one of the bigger reasons behind Oblivion's success.

As for R.A. Salvatore... All I'm hoping for is that the game's plot doesn't involve Emo dark elves with twin scimitars and a panther named with the Celtic variation of an Arthurian character's name.

He's a decent author, yeah, sure, but the Dark Elf Trilogy was just plain horrible. It's bad, horribly lazy fanfic material at best.

I've been keeping an eye on this for a while. Its art style doesn't impress me, but it doesn't immediately turn me off the way anime-style visuals do, either. As for the known gameplay details, I've long hoped for a game that blends reasonably deep RPG character building with a "real" combat system. It isn't exactly what I hoped for - I'd actually hoped for a somewhat more purposeful pace and a weighty feel - but I'll take God of War style smashy-smashy over TES's floaty, inconsequential-feeling combat, and the traditional menu-driven "click it and watch it die" of other RPGs.

For anyone looking for more details on it, IGN is pulling their traditional skirt-the-review-embargo shenanigans by publishing lengthy but incomplete parts of an "ongoing review". It's IGN, of course, so take that for whatever it means to you, but the game does look pretty promising.

My hopes are tentatively raised, and I'll be giving the demo a shot.

If only it had a less terrible name.
Yeah, I'd have to agree with you here. I'm not too fond of the fantasyish names of some of the places, weapons, enemies, etc., like skeletons being called "faer gorta" and the big bad being named Gadflow. Though an asskicking game by any other name would... still be an asskicking game. Just look at Devil May Cry.

Gadflow? It might sound epic in context, but just cribbed out of its source material like that?

It sounds like something Mister Weatherbee would shout when particualrly dismayed. "Great Gadflow, Archie, GET OUT OF MY PETUNIAS!"

Or something. I might be confusing Archie with Mister Wilson, anyway.

Does Mister Weatherbee have petunias?

Yeah, it's late.

Any game that's actually willing to release a demo before its release is worthy of my attention these days.

Morrowind with better combat would be nice, but I don't have any expectations at this point. I haven't really read anything about it, I'll let the demo do its job.

The combat looks excellent and I love the style of it all... But my main focus in any RPG is story and the world I'll be existing in. It's written by R.A. Salvatore, so it may be good. We'll have to see. We should reconvene after playing to have a pow-wow about it, ha ha.
