Used to have this periodic urge to create the Sandwich To Rule Them All. They always turned out to be really disgusting due to a deluge of mismatched ingredients. I tried to toast one once [using on of those toastie-maker devices], and it smelled like fermented garbage.

I put some water on to boil, and forgot about it. I remembered when the fire alarm went off. All the water had boiled off, and the metal of the teapot had started to oxidize.

I was in Culinary Class about 5 years ago when I put a pot of something in the microwave, sparks flew, I looked like an idiot. On the plus side, I've never done that again.

Worst disaster was when the microwave fried it self making popcorn. Really?! No popcorn for the movie?!

I'm pretty good in a kitchen (well good enough) so I usually don't screw up. I did have a grease fire once but it was put out with a wet towel. I've been in the kitchen with my mother since I was about 5 and I had 3 years of cooking classes in school.

How can you go through life without learning basic cooking skills? It's boring, yes, but not exactly hard. Are you planning on eating out for the rest of your lives?

I somehow managed to evaporate the chicken from inside some popcorn chicken I decided to reheat in the microwave.

I just ended up with small bread-crumbed clusters which were as hard as pebbles.

Ermm... I burnt some rice once (wasn't paying enough attention to the water level in the pot). Exciting, I know.

i tried microwaving bacon and it didn't occur to me that the plate i microwaved it on would be hot. i grabbed it, it burned my hand, and it got thrown across the kitchen. luckily, all of the bacon was safe.

Chopping an onion once took me an hour. Tips: Sharpen the knife and cut the onion in half first so it doesn't roll off the counter and into the tumble dryer so often.

Also, cheese on toast + drunk = trying to put slices of cheese in the toaster. Bad plan.

I set toast on fire.
I managed this once, I swear I only stopped paying attention for a second, but then "what's that smell?"

Also, I just spent five minutes making the rotors in your avatar switch directions, it was awesome.

My friend and I were going to make chicken tempura, a time-consuming but delicious dish that involves dipping bits of chicken in a special batter and then deep-frying them in a wok pan filled with vegetable oil.

We had everything ready, but it would take some time to heat the oil. It also occurred to us that we didn't have anything good to watch while we were eating. So, I made a quick trip to the local video store to procure some entertainment, while my friend stayed and watched the pan of oil.

When I returned, the house was full of mysterious, smelly fog. Turned out my friend had decided to pass the time by reading one of my Lupin III comic books, and gotten so absorbed in the famous rouge's misadventures that he had completely forgotten about the oil on the stove.

We opened every window we could find, and soon enough got rid of the fog, but the smell remained for the rest of the day.

The food turned out great, though!

I'm actually pretty good with cooking, although hungover once i accidently put salt in my coffee instead of sugar..they're right next to eachother :p

My girlfriend on the other hand once burnt down a kitchen making toast...needless to say there's one woman that's not alowed in the kitchen!

I'm generally alright with cooking, although I have made the horrible error of confusing the 'cook from frozen' and 'cook from fresh' times before. I made a Christmas dinner for my housemates at uni, and everything else was fine, and then I realised that the chicken I was cooking would need another 40 minutes, oooops. So me and another housemate ran down to the local butchers and bought some hot chickens. Crisis averted, and some bonus chicken to eat afterwards.
