So Ive been interested in KOTOR even though I know the twist and everything, but unfortunatley its pretty much impossible to track down for PC

however for some reason Ive come across KOTOR 2 quite a few times

so basically Without playing the first one is it worht playing number 2? I get the impression that its more of a sad case of "what could have been" aparantly the ending is a little wtf and that kind of thing, in any case mabye I should avoid it

how ever I am sort of interested in the old republic MMO (even thogh by principle I dontlike MMO's) but it certainly wouldnt feel right playing that with experiencing KOTOR

It is most definitely worth playing. It's flawed but still very good. I reviewed it a week or two ago here [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.257449-Dusty-Reviews-Knights-of-the-Old-Republic-II] and laid out some of the issues. That was for the Xbox version, which is a different experience because of the Restoration Mod [http://www.filefront.com/16851837/tslrcm_1.6.exe] for the pc (adds a TON of cut content). You might want to check online at Best Buy or some other similar retailer and see if they have the game. I thought I saw it on there at least. You definitely want to buy it for the pc if you can.

KOTOR II is entirely better than the first game (if you can forgive the rushed release causing content cuts). Better story, deeper options, more interesting characters, etc.

Yes, but it's not better than the first (by a fucking long shot).

It could have been, and you can see that, but what could have been doesn't equal what is.

If you can't find a version of either game for pc, I (Moderators please don't hurt me) suggest downloading it if finding a legit version or whatever is difficult.

Please don't put me on probation, cause I'm just saying its an option.

But I say they are both worth playing but you don't really need to have played the first one before you do the second one since there is little (that I recall) overlap between characters. But I still suggest playing KOTOR 1 first just because its an awesome game.

Also, this site should have plenty of mods and content restoration packs if you want them.

Well I think you can get KotOR 1 from steam for $5 but the second one is more refined, (don't like the ending as stated) but it's just as good as the first. (Which is great)

I can't speak for it personally because I haven't used it. It has been around a while, though. And I know many people here have used it and speak well of it. It restores a staggering amount of content (I've read the list, I'd post it but you can't really read through it without seeing a good many spoilers). I haven't heard anything bad about it.

Best Buy [http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Star+Wars%3A+Knights+of+the+Old+Republic+II+%26%23151%3B+The+Sith+Lords+-+Windows/7002851.p?id=1099391932859&skuId=7002851&st=star%20wars&lp=8&cp=2] does seem to have it online (I bought the game from there in store a couple of years ago for my old computer). It's $20, though. You might can find it cheaper.

Definitly better but make sure to add the restoration mod if it works. It adds a lot of great content. It work, it's good and it makes for a great playthrough even without them.

For those that can't find KOTOR for PC, get it from Steam. Got mine on sale there for a whopping $2.50.

I wouldn't recommend playing it without that mod, assuming it fixes the completely screwed up ending. The nonsensical and abrupt ending ruined the entire experience for me (Xbox version). To give you a spoiler-free sense of how bad it is, there are cinematics showing some of your party members about to come into conflict with some mysterious characters in the final section of the game. They are never seen again and the whole interaction is never explained. And the "dark side" ending cinematic amounted to little more than a zoom-out IIRC.

Another game I would recommend instead is Jade Empire. It's by the developer of KotOR 1, isn't based on Star Wars, and the combat is action-based, but if you are interested in an older RPG with a GREAT story that's almost certainly unspoiled for you, I would look into it.

Yes it's worth. KOTOR1 is a bit better, but if 2 wasn't rushed then it woud have been better by far.
KOTOR1 is avalible on steam. As for KOTOR2 you will have a hard time finding it :-(

I fell asleep during the very first mission... I must say they put a lot of unnecessary filler into that spot. No idea how it's after that. Nor do I care... KOTOR1 felt complete by itself.

I played both on xbox and I can honesly say that the first was my favouret because it was a epic story WITH AN ENDING THAT MADE SENCE. KOTOR 2 had an even better story and better characters but it's ending was just......

Best way to describe it is probley to imagine whatching Lord of the rings for the first time and when you watch return of the king, it starts of with an army of elves commiting mass suicide while helms deep is buldosed into a car park while fodo is conviced by a 19th century lawer to throw the ring in. It wrapes up the story but starts dozens of questions.

On topic, if you read the story of the first one on wikipedia you should be fine for the second one.

Once I finished KotOR, I was itching to play the second one. Unfortunately, everything you did in the first game doesn't count, your old character is gone, your friends are dead, and your droid has changed his name and color. Also, no matter what ending you picked for the first game, everybody still hates your old character's guts. Oh, and your ship is all busted up and for all intents and purposes has no business still being in the game. You might as well have never played KotOR for all the good that story, character development and plotline does for you in KotOR 2.
I couldn't get more than a few missions into the second game before I put it down for good. I loved KotOR, but the second one was such a slap to the face. The sequel makes vague references to the first game, yet nothing truly carries over. I want either two separate and distinctly different games or a continuing saga, yet KotOR 2 fails to deliver in that regard.
If you liked KotOR and have no problem with playing the exact same game again but with a new storyline and swapped character names, by all means, KotOR 2 is the way to go.

KOTOR2 is absolutely magnificent in the middle. It's got a slow start, and an incomplete end, but the mid-game is glorious. One word: Kreia. To expand upon that word - the characters are more nuanced, the bad guys more engaging, and the writing is much, much better. Oh, and weapon balance is better 2. In KOTOR2 you could make a blaster actually work. *remembers gunning down 3 sith lords with a heavy repeating blaster and giggling wildly*
