Yeah, my old hometown's doing a thing in late April where they're going all over town and covering the shit out of it with Kony posters. I don't think anyone'll pay attention to a tiny, unknown town like Tewkesbury, but it's worth a try I guess.

Rising awareness about what exactly however? That You know a name of one psychopathic bastard out of hundred that You won't hear about? And what that awareness does for You? You wake up happier that You know about it and told 20 people something they didn't knew?

The problem is the whole issue is approached from bad angle. This whole campaign is call for escalation of conflict and if You don't realize it You are simply blind. You know what happens when you escalate conflict? Read on Soviet War in Afghanistan (1979-1989) which resulted in people like Osama Bin Laden rising to prominence after western world defeated the "oppressive Soviet occupant" because the western world supported the mujaheddin as a counter balance to the communists.

Wan to actually help Africa? Find a charity that actually builds schools, hospitals, water wells... anything that helps normal people rather than currently ruling regimes. Do You really want US/NATO get involved into another conflict that will only result in even greater chaos, because after they spend all the money on weapons there won't be any left to actually rebuild the basis for a normal country and same people will suffer, just from different guy ?

There is plenty of good ways to influence the world, sadly, this however doesn't look like one of them.

Exactly. This! Not only that - but Africa is FULL of these people. There are so many less-developed countries essentially run by men like this. Do these 'activists' genuinely believe he's the only one and that he's been operating under the radar? Because he hasn't. Neither do the others. We can't go charging in and save the day. We can't help those children. It's nice to see that people are discovering the chaos that is still around us...but this is just isolating one tyrant out of a hundred. And there is nothing that can be done.

Well... what do you expect anyone to do? Should I expect David Cameron to order UK's Armed forces to INVADE CENTRAL AFRICA!?!?! Or should I raise my own army, I know enough about war to know how LITTLE I know, Kony has far more valuable knowledge than most people here: experience.

And considering he is using child soldiers there are huge moral implications of even destroying his army that you don't have with an army of adults.

And even then, what about the political ramifications of involvement. How will other countries react or over-react to European soldiers intervening. What happens if they allege colonialism and declare war on the European/American countries that got involved. Many may even side with Kony.

And then the very real possibility, what if we start this war... and lose.

It's a distinct possibility, Kony is fighting on familiar ground in a way he understands very well. He could get support from other organisations that oppose the West (enemy of my enemy) and what of the prisoners of war? What happens when Kony parades British or American soldiers as captives? What then?

I don't see the point in activism, it's not like there is any serious dispute over what an evil horrible bastard Kony is... but what can we do about it? We have struggled to disentangle from Iraq, are begrudgingly committed to Afghanistan and still have to remain a fleet-in-being against Iranian sabre-rattling, and Britain also has to have contingencies in case Argentina tries to take the Flaklands again.

I am of course speaking as a Brit, though I think this applies to Americans as well: we cannot get involved.

This is a challenge for the sovereign African nations to surmount. We cannot intervene and solve their problems, they DO have armies and military industrial complexes. It is up the them to show political initiative and unity in quashing Kony's army. We don't have much money to spare in military aid, I think we need to show solidarity with these afflicted African nations and provide then with as much advisory support as possible. Maybe share military intelligence and tactics. Maybe send the SAS and other British Officers to train their troops.

But we cannot declare war on Kony. Africans must declare war on him and his twisted cause.

One thing they don't need is a facebook page stating the obvious that someone who butchers children is bad. What these African countries need is political support to exercise their sovereign right to defendthemselves.

It's really too bad that Invisible Children is a scam charity. If only we had known... a long time ago. Oh, wait, we did - very few of their profits actually go to helping anybody but themselves. They keep pulling shit like this, and people keep buying into it.
It's really too bad that Joseph Kony has been doing this for years, and nobody cared before. Most of the teenagers re-posting this shit on Twitter and Facebook (the majority of people "taking a stand" and "changing the world, as they put it, are teenagers) probably couldn't find Uganda on a map, let alone fight terrorism/freedom-fighting (same thing).
It's really too bad that buying T-shirts from a fraudulent support group and talking about it on Facebook in AMERICA won't have any effect in Africa. You want to do something? Donate resources, start petitions, start support websites, or hell, go over there yourself and "fight the good fight". Don't just stand on the side-lines shouting, "Go team!"
It's really too bad that this is mostly a popularity contest among teens. It just screams, "LOOK AT ME, EVERYONE! I'M SUPPORTING A GOOD CAUSE! COME PRAISE ME FOR BEING A GOOD PERSON, WHILE I DO NOTHING BUT SHARE STUFF AND CHANGE MY PROFILE PICTURE TO 'KONY 2012'!"
It's really too bad that even IF our governments were to do something and send troops, they would have to fight through hundreds of CHILDREN to get to Kony, because they have been brain-washed to fight for him. That's right, kiddies, the children you want to save would most likely be SLAUGHTERED.

Okay before I get my head bitten off, yes Senor Kony is a terrible ass-hat and the LRA has done some horrible things, and any donations made to any charity which helps developing African nations from avoidoing these kind of horrible acts against human rights (although I think your money would be better spent to a UN approved charity, and there's a lot of them that don't use only 31% of donations to actually you know, help people *cough invisible children ough*) but... in the interest of being a little better informed, maybe try reading this article.

guys. if america goes around being the world police, then why would we be particular about it? hes not the only person committing crimes against humanity, and sending WEAPONS, which is what we ends up doing with the money we donate, gets distributed all wrong. the only way to completely rid the world of his guy and everyone like him would be to pull out all the stops. carpet bomb anywhere the LRA is, or any of it's influence is. we can't keep going after people who pose no threat to our national security.

i'm not saying my heart doesn't go out, or that i dont wish we COULD do something, but what are we going to do to stop not just Kony Island, but the LRA at large? people will step in even if we string up Icecream Kony on national tv, because they're all insane. this is a good cause, but we can't do it right, so there is no use making it worse.

A) The Ugandan government is OBVIOUSLY doing something about it considering he is considered a rebel, B) Last time I checked, Uganda was a sovereign nation, so what right do people outside the country have to tell them how to do things, and C) Why is something that's a few years old suddenly eclipsing something larger like Syria? Focus on stuff like this is detracting from international efforts already in progress. People ***** and moan for organizations to do something and then when they actually start doing it, the public shifts their focus.
