I am so depressed that people follow this trend like sheep. Do some research into the problems of Uganda and you'll see that the LRA have been pushed so far back that they can barely stand, and they definitely can't recruit.

But the more important thing is that Invisible Children is a terrible non-profit organization who only give about 30% of what they gather to fighting the LRA. Also, the money they give is given to the Ugandan army and police which are also corrupt and loot and rape.

Yeah, this fucker needs to be brought down. As does anyone like him. People like this shouldn't be locked up, they should just be shot. I admit I won't be joining any events or anything people might be setting up to cause awareness to this guy, but I'd like to see him taken out all the same.

On a more off-topic note, I clicked on your profile page (OP), like I sometimes do with random people. Dear God, your picture just reminds me so much of me when I was in high school. Kerrang posters on the wall, I even have that Goddamn t-shirt somewhere >.<

Remember when Osama bin Laden died and it seemed all of America celebrated their victory with an absolutely vile display of joyous celebration of death?

I have the awful feeling that we're heading towards that with Kony. Build him up into a household name. Make everybody loathe his very existence. Revel in his bloodshed. That's not justice. That's petty war, exactly what this act is trying to stop, and unfortunately what the "Kony 2012" video is inadvertently encouraging. I'm tepid about this whole issue... I don't think I can trust the mass populace with this sort of cause.
While I do agree it was rather... Disturbing to see folks out in the street chanting "USA" in celebration of a killing, you have to agree that we can't just not do anything about this just because of how the American people might react. He's forcing children to commit atrocities. That can't go unchecked just because we don't want people to get over-excited about killing someone.

I was aware of child soldiers before it was cool to be aware of child soldiers : \

The issue is more complicated than the man in charge of everything, A LOT more has to be done than just arresting him (or posting about him), but I guess it helps a little tiny insignificant little bit.

I Don't really understand the raging on this thread...... "I dont care about people being kidnapped, murdered, mutilated and tortured and Im great because I'm willing to admit it! fuck you all!".... Like really? wouldn't "It's terrible, but I'm not inclined to take part in activist movements" be more appropriate? : \

Honestly, if he were a leader of a larger army, I'd agree. If he were killed, the power vacuum would divide among the tribe and they would tear themselves apart vying for resources, drugs, guns, people.
I can understand that. But with the part about them thinking he communicates with spirits sent by god really screams 'religious fundamentalist group in the making' to me. Especially if they have a decent amount of control over resources at the moment. But I just don't think anything good would come from at least arresting him and trying him for war crimes. Assassination, especially if subtle, seems the best option for this kind of person.

This has gained a hell of a lot of traction over the course of today, has 120,000 notes on tumblr the last time I saw. Nice to see a person such as this get so much scorn over such a short amount of time.
Will the attention stick is my question. Will people forget about this within a week and have this just be a flare up of the internet only to be forgotten once the next big thing comes out?
Im curious about this as well. I find it hard to take a movement seriously when it just happens. I guess im kinda cynical to things like this. Guys been active since the 80s, will a bunch of people on facebook and twitter really do anything to change that?
There has been a movement to get rid of him SINCE the 80s its just that will THIS campaign to get him to be a household name work or will people stop talking about him in the coming weeks. That is the real question. Hundreds of thousands of people descended on Washington DC to talk to senators to get them to support getting rid of him but when they tried before the guy was flat out told was never going to happen.

To be fair, I think the movement's achieving its goal.

I had never heard of Kony before this whole thing went viral. Everyone knows about how fucked up Africa can be but that's kinda the general mindset. "Africa's fucked up." Nobody takes much time to find out just how fucked up or who's fucking it up.

Average Joe can't do a single thing about things like this but talk about them. But enough people talk about it and people who can do things about it will hear.

Shut the fuck up. This is all over Facebook and I am so sick of people supporting such retarded ideas.

There. For those of you too lazy to follow this link, basically "Invisible Children" is a bewilderingly rich "charity" that supports the Ugandan military and violent intervention to catch this guy, an exercise the US government has attempted many times, each time eliciting a more violent counter-attack. On top of this, the Ugandan military are guilty of widespread rape and sexual assault, and that's who your money is going to.

If you support this group, you are a gullible idiot. Always research a charity before condoning it.
First of all, I'm gonna presume that 'Shut the fuck up' was aimed at me. How about you take a step back and chill the hell out and stop acting like some sort of idiot.
Secondly, this is not a retarded idea whatsoever. Raising awareness for a problem people didn't know about before? Tell me what's 'retarded' about that.
Thirdly, if you took the time out of your busy day, you'd have seen that that link was posted in the OP.
They are not bewilderingly rich.
The rest of that may or may not be true; all these assumptions you're making are based off a post on Tumblr with no solid sources to back it up.
Every organisation in the world has shady dealings at the end of the day, but the fact that all we're doing is raising awareness doesn't warrant you and a load of other angry people to kick off on one thinking you're so superior that you're not supporting this.

Get of your high horse and act like a civil person. If it's 'all over Facebook and [you're] so sick of people supporting such retarded ideas', maybe it's time you get off the internet and take a little breather. You clearly knew exactly what this thread was about before you clicked on it, and noone was forcing you to. So don't complain you're seeing it everywhere, because *shocker* you can just avoid it if you don't support it.

Don't care. There are other larger issues that actually affect me that I would rather pay attention to (which I don't), and this strikes me as something people jump on "because they are expected to care" and/or because it finally get popularized.

So, I'm just gonna be "that guy" and add another thing on my list of things to be insensitive about:

This summarizes everything I feel about Kony 2012 perfectly:

I'm throwing this in here since the other thread kind of died and I'm wondering about it:

I don't mean to sound heartless here but I'm about to anyway.

Why does it matter? What's the difference between this guy and African Warlord #2521? Why is he so terrible compared to the many others down there. Let's say we take this guy out...what then? African Warlord #2522 gets to step into place and does the same thing. If we stick around, how long will the public opinion stay positive when it sees day after day our soldiers being killed in the middle of no where for a country that no one really cares about?

Other countries can't police the world (as I'm sure certain war-torn Middle Eastern countries have shown). It's unfortunate but I really don't see what you want us to do about this...

America steps in; we're horrible people trying to push our beliefs on the world.
America stays out of it; we're horrible people for not trying to put a stop to genocide.

It sucks. It really really sucks. It'd be nice if we could walk in, take out the bad guy, then give the people the government and it'll all work out. But this is real life and it just doesn't work that way.

EDIT: New stuff: Also, maybe it's in the video but I don't see what your money does. Their website says DONATE without any explanation as to what happens to your donation.
