And besides, Mass Effect doesn't have HK-47.
And that?s bad because??..

OT: I?d say mass-effect as KOTOR didn?t age that gracefully

And there's your reason to play ME first.
Exclamation: Meatbags with which I did not make a good impression? I shall look forward to roasting them.

KotOR first... I say this simply because it is the game I enjoyed the most.

Additionally KotOR and Mass Effect play completely differently, both in terms of style and feel, so don't have any worry about deja vu.

Meatbag.

Personally, I'd put Jade Empire in front of all of them. :p
This. Jade Empire was the best. Still hoping and praying for a sequel, but I know it'll never happen.

Both games are awesome. So I'd do one one day, then play the other one the next.
Or flip a coin.
Or do eeny, meeny, miney, mo.
Or play Mass Effect...because I love that one more...
Don't tell KotOR though.

Mass Effect is perhaps my all time favorite game. or atleast it's up there. but i would still recommend playing KOTOR first. why? because you won't appreciate it as much as you should after playing Mass Effect. hope it helps.

I found mass effect promising at first and to a degree it deliverd but in koter i found so much more dept to the characters in a well established universe however the combat in both games are widly different.

KotOR gets much better once you leave Taris believe me. I say go for it first, then play Mass Effect afterwards.
Correction:KotOR gets much better once you leave Dantooine believe me.

Kotor first, it's amazing when you get into it. Then KotorII, then ME, then ME2.... that should give you over 100 gaming hours.....

Mass effect for me. KOTOR doesn't even rank as my favorite Star Wars game - that honor goes to TIE Fighter. Followed by Dark Forces. Followed by KOTOR.

Yeah Taris does suck and is unfortunately a poor way to start off a fantastic game. However once you make it to Dantooine and get the jedi upgrade the game really kicks off. This is a really tough choice because I want to say KotOR but the problem is that graphically it hasn't aged well. I,hmm, kotOR however I'm a SW fanboy so take my opinion with a grain of salt.

Start with KOTOR, the age gap will be hard to handle after ME. Besides, maybe you can time it well so that when you're done with ME2, ME3 will come out.

They don't have similar gameplay at all. The only similarity is the morality system. I just restarted one of my characters from ME this weekend myself.

Thanks to all for some thoughtful replies, especially those who pointed out that...

Taris sucks... a lot. It really really sucks.
Graphics don't ever make or break a game for me, but ME looks great and I'm ashamed to admit that's added to my indecision. Still I think I'll go with KOTOR.

Funny thing is I'm not really a Star Wars fan, except for the original movie, which I love far more than any of the sequels, but despite that the scrolling titles of KOTOR with that music just put a huge smile on my face. It's hard not to react to that if, like me, you saw the original movie back in '77.
