Despite what some developers think, we are not all confined by genres or "types", if this were the case then Portal wouldn't have been the hit that it was.

This may be my fanboyism speaking here, but LA Noire is going to be game of the year. I can almost guarantee it.
Okay, no. Its good, I will give you that. Very very good, on any other year it would sweep the GOTYs. But 2011? This year? No, Uncharted 3 has that in the bag.
Wow sir, tell me where you get your games from the future!
No, from previews. Basically, the way I've seen it described, LA Noire is super-mega-awesome, Skyrim is Double-Super-Mega-Awesome, and Uncharted 3 is Triple-Super-Mega-Awesome. So we can tell that, based on the current evidence, Uncharted 3 will be one and a half times as super mega awesome as Skyrim. Its just math - you can't argue with the math.
I disagree. Although I don't think that L.A. Noire will win game of the year (even if it does sell as well as I hope) I think Skyrim has more of a chance than Uncharted 3. It's a more well known name, and it isn't console exclusive. But, it's definitely between those two.
...Since when has brand recognition or console exclusivity made a difference in what the best game of the year is? By that logic in 2008 Sonic Unleashed would have been given GOTY instead of LittleBigPlanet. What kind of insane world would that be?
Both Morrowind and Oblivion have won Game of the Year in their years, only Uncharted 2 won in it's year, but I think overall Skyrim has a bigger fan base then Uncharted, I would place my money on Skyrim for GotY

Stop thinking in genres. A lot of big budget games these days are just the same shit recycled for the 5th time. (*cough* call of duty *cough*)
Here's some slight innovation and people start asking who the target audience is? rofl

I would buy it if there was a PC version, but Rockstar seems to hate us PC gamers these days.

Ok... wow. Calm down. That would be just retarded. Sonic Unleashed is a horrible game. Skyrim and Uncharted will both be amazing. It's just that, before even being let past the starting line, Skyrim has a bit of a backing behind it, what with Oblivion winning game of the year.

I wasn't saying it was guaranteed. I was saying it has a bit of an edge, but it is still between those two games. So don't worry, I'm not bashing Uncharted 3 here.
Don't forget Morrowind won GotY too

I'm kinda strapped for cash now, so I doubt I will pick it up at launch. Perhaps I will get it used in a few months.

Does look cool though.

It's a Rockstar game, I'm sure it will sell just fine.
It is only published by Rockstar, it is developed by Team Bondi.
The only thing this game really has in common with any Rockstar game is free-roam.

LA Noire is a linear game. Its not like GTA or Red Dead.
Sure, it is technically a Rockstar game, but a huge R and a Star don't always guarantee selling fifteen million copies.

I am really looking forward to LA and I truly do hope that its sales do well, but I just have a feeling that this game won't be as popular as GTA or Red Dead, because it is a "thinking man's" game.
Most people don't know it was made by Team Bondi. They'll see Rockstar and think Rockstar made it.

And this will work to the game's advantage. It doesn't guarantee sales will be amazing... but it does guarantee sales.

I remember something similar being said about how Red Dead was doomed to failure, or how Dead Space 2 would barely see any return. I also remember a long time ago about an RPG that mixed Final Fantasy with Disney of all things, but that's such an obscure game that I couldn't possible use it as an example here.

I know, you're probably right, and this is a disaster for the video game industry.
Is the game industry trying to become the movie industry? I find it terrible that 'games' such as Heavy Rain and LA Noire get so much hype and worst of all, are successful.
They're not games. They're slightly interractive movies. Why are those movies disguised as games so successful? Why are they praised as games of the year? They're not games. Shouldn't they be at the most, praised as movie of the year?
I think the fact that they are praised by video game critics is the worst thing for the video game industry. It entices more game developers to make movies.
There are enough movies out there. Why do video game developers feel the need to add some more?
Le gamers get games, and let cinephiles get movies.
Oh, hi. I didn't know you played L.A. Noire and therefore knew exactly how it played. I also didn't know you represented the "gamer's want".

Get off your fucking high horse before you fall and hurt yourself, kid. Some of us like cinematic experiences in games and find them fun as hell. Heavy Rain was an awesome and engaging experience to play, and I expect no less from L.A. Noire. In fact, I expect more.

Or, sir, your hilarious way of getting hopes for L.A. Noire up just made the rage at kanada514's post go away. Thank you, good sir, thank you :D

It will be word of mouth that will affect sales.
Even if it doesn't sell well initially, if the game is really well recieved its sales will Sky-rocket.

My newspaper today - a rather heavy broadsheet that almost never covers video games - has a two page article about LA Noire, focusing on the facial animations and realism.

This could be a breakthrough game. I just hope it doesn't give in to the craving for sensationalism which I've always felt wrecked GTA's chances of being accepted beyond the gamer ghetto.

Shame it's only going to be on consoles. It's a sad day for the PC Gaming Master Race.

I will be checking this game out, and as stated in this thread its not a Rockstar developed game, sure but, they probably would not sink a large investment into its development if they did not think it was a good idea. Although the videos and such on the internet gives me mixed feelings about it they are doing something new, and that in itself makes me want to support it sight unseen, also as stated in this forum, I do this for the sake of the industry. Also Rockstar almost created the whole sandbox world,(for the sake of not getting a thousand one obscure games that did it first, lets say Rockstar brought them mainstream) and lead the way for a new type of game everyone and their mother has seemed to have cloned. So as long as they back its development ill buy it, and if they hit another genre grandslam I can be the one to post in a forum for the 50th clone review and say, i remember when LA Noir did it first.

Took the words right out of my mouth...

By the way, most people I know are getting this game. I don't see it failing.

Its a Rockstar game, they are advertising like crazy for it, it has the potential to engage a much larger audience than regular games, its looks like its going to get extremely high scores since a lot of sites are already foaming at the mouth for it, Heavy Rain has proven that new ideas especially those targeted towards a mature audience can not only sell, but sell very well.

In what world would it not sell well, come on, this one is selling 1.5 million copies minimum, you gotta imagine anything over 500,000 copies puts it in the green for the publisher.

THAT IS A HORRIBLE REASON TO PREORDER A GAME.

You won't be disappointed, L.A. Noire is going to be great :D
